Ex-Yobe governor Ibrahim speaks after video of him with 2 ladies emerge

- Senator Bukar Ibrahim, a former governor of Yobe state, said the video was the effect of a failed attempt to blackmail him.

- Ibrahim said he knew when the ladies took the recording but that they allegedly said they were doing it for fun.

Bukar Ibrahim, a former governor of Yobe and current senator representing the eastern part of the state, has finally reacted to the video of his alleged sexual activity with two women.

NAIJ. com learnt that the video was released allegedly released by Sahara Reporters. Premium Times now reports Senator Ibrahim as saying the video was released after attempts to blackmail him failed.

Ibrahim did not deny involvement in the scandal, but said it was an act of blackmail. Ibrahim, who reportedly signed the Sharia law while he was governor of Yobe, said he had not committed any official offence with what the video depicted.

He also said he would investigate the scandal. The report quoted Ibrahim as saying: "This is a personal, private matter. What does my having been with a girl have to do with the public?.

"You know the normal thing: people ask for unreasonable things, and if you deny them, they try to blackmail you if they have a way.

"If they say I r*ped, that's a different matter altogether. Is it because I am a public official then I am not supposed to be entitled to private life?".

He added that when the shots were being taken, the women said it was for fun. "They just mentioned it to me as a joke and I took it as nothing really serious. This is something that happened between two adults.

"I have commenced investigations to find out why it is circulating. But from all indications, it is a blackmail," he said. The video showed Ibrahim dressing up in a room which had the two women.

However, the two women in the video in the video were fully dressed. Contacted, the report quoted Senator Samuel Anyawu, who chairs ethics committee, as saying he awaits further instructions from the upper legislative chamber.

Reacting, a lawyer, Liborous Oshoma, said: "This is what our politics and politicians have been associated with for decades - female politicians drinking and attending late night events with male politicians who cannot do without sleeping with women that are not their wives.

"So, if one is coming to the public light right now, it just goes to buttress what everyone has always known. "We have enough issues on our hands to begin to discuss a Senator with illicit affairs.

"Let the Senators deal with the issues surrounding our ailing president and take Nigeria out of the current crisis.
