KARENE-SEAN HINES: Hi, can you tell us who you are and what you do?

RHIANON GUTIERREZ: Hi, my name is Rhianon Gutierrez, and I'm a Digital Learning Specialist

with BPSTechnology, or OIIT.

I've been using Workplace since it was in beta testing back in February and I'm really

excited about the tool because it's really opening up the doors of collaboration between

teachers and the district office.

And because I am based in Central Office, I've been really privileged to collaborate

more with other departments.

One example is the ASSET group meetings.

We have been working on developing courses to increase access and agency in our learners,

so you'll be seeing those this summer.

I'm also excited for the future, to just collaborate more because I think we need to

practice more about working together rather than working in silos and I think technology

is really the great equalizer for that.

KARENE-SEAN HINES: Wonderful.

So, tell us a little bit more about some of the adaptive issues that you're trying to overcome with

technology.

RHIANON GUTIERREZ: That's a great question.

So, for example, one of the things that I really, really enjoy about Workplace is that

it is something that is really easy for users to use.

However, we also have to be mindful of some access issues and, because I am a person who

does - you know - care a lot about that, as someone who needs to use captions, I really

try to encourage people in other departments, when they produce content, to think about

how we can include captions, as well as some other interactive elements that will be accessible.

So, for example, we are going to really make an effort to make all of these videos captioned

so that we'll be able to access them and also so that we can get more viewers because

search engine optimization is a big thing with this!
