Hi everyone!
My name is Rhiannon McCarthy and I am a sophomore here at the University of Wisconsin-Madison
stuyding Strategic Communicaton.
This semester, I accepted a position to be a Campus Ambassador for Google's new app called
Google Allo.
So first, I'll just tell you a little bit about what the app is.
Google Allo is a smart messaging app similar to GroupMe and WhatsApp.
However, this app allows you to say and do more than the other apps because the technology
is much smarter.
A feature called "smart reply" suggests text responses for you based on your personality.
So the more you use Google Allo, the more it's going to learn about the type of person
you are and the type of things that you would say.
You can also "shout" or "whisper" which adds meaning to your conversations.
So instead of typing in all caps, you can actually change the size of the text to shout
or change it smaller so that you can whisper something.
You can also show off your creative abilities by doodling on your photos before sending
them.
Google Allo allows you to draw on your photos in your chats which is a super cool feature
that I really like to do.
If you can't say it with words, you can say it with one of the stickers in Google Allo.
So, all of the stickers in this app are designed by independent artists and studios around
the world so you know that all of this is going to be super unique and super different
from anything else.
My favorite feature of the app, however, is the Google Assistant.
So, this is what sets the app apart from all others.
When you type @Google into your group chat, your Assistant can suggest restaurants, find
videos to share, get directions, or look up answers, right within your conversation with
all your other group mates.
Another cool thing about this feature is that in a two-way conversational format, you can
ask the Google Assistant for jokes or puppy pictures if you're bored, get daily weather
notifications, or even get the latest scores from your favorite sports teams.
So that's a little bit about what the app is.
Now, as a Campus Ambassador, it is my job to inform students on campus of this new app
and specific ways in which I do this include working events where I hand out free food
or free drink vouchers in exchange for a download, I will host my own individual event, and I
encourage my organizations and other people in my classes to download the app.
So, if you're interested in learning more, please feel free to contact me with any questions
you may have about the app.
If you're ready to download the app, simply search "Allo" in the app store.
Or type "g.co/allo/364" into Safari or Google Chrome.
Thanks for watching!
