NYSCA NYFA Artist Fellowship How to Video 2017 - Duration: 9:45.

Welcome to the NYSCA/NYFA Artist Fellowship How To Video.

Before you start you application read through the program guidelines.

This information will help you successfully complete an application.

These guidelines along with other useful information can be found on the Fellowships page on the

NYFA.org website.

To find this page on the website, click the Programs tab at the top of the home page and

then select Awards & Grants followed by Artists' Fellowships.

The Fellowships page contains links to useful information such as Frequently Asked Questions,

the Application Guidelines and the link to the application itself.

To create your account, first click on the category you wish to apply in.

This will open up a new page where you can view the Application Guidelines and the Category

Guidelines.

The Category Guidelines contain information specifically related to the discipline category

in which you are applying - such as support materials and work samples - please refer

to these guidelines when completing your application.

Below, you will be prompted to create your user account.

Applicants must create an account with the platform submittable.com in order to complete

and submit their application.

If you do not already have an user account with submittable.com, enter your details here

and click on Create Account and Continue.

A verification email will be sent to your email address, check your inbox and click

on the link provided in the email to verify your account.

Once you have created an account and signed in, you will be able to view the application

form.

Each category will ask for different support materials and file uploads, however, all categories

require you to enter the same applicant information.

Please ensure that Your Name is your full legal name as it appears on government issued

forms of identification.

And if you have an artist name, please state this in the appropriate field.

If you are applying as a collaboration, please enter each collaborative artist's full legal

name in the Your Name field and your collaborative artist name in the Artist Name field.

Once you have entered all of your Applicant Information, you will be asked to submit your

Support Materials.

These will vary according to each discipline however all disciplines require you to submit

a Work Statement.

The Work Statement gives you the opportunity to talk about the work you are submitting

as your work samples.

Imagine that you are in the room with the panel: how would you explain to them what

they are seeing?

The Category guidelines also provide guided questions help you construct your Work Statement.

This statement is limited to 100 words.

If you want to save your progress at any point while filling out your application, click

on the Save Draft button at the bottom of the page and your work will be saved.

In all categories where applicants are asked to provide excerpted sections of their work

samples have the opportunity to provide an optional Excerpt Explanation.

The Excerpt Explanation contextualizes this Work Samples with the overall full piece.

This statement is limited to 400 words.

The Technical Statement is an optional statement for all categories where it appears.

This statement gives applicants' the opportunity to describe the relationship of the work samples

to the work itself.

Applicants should complete this statement in a manner that is most appropriate to the

nature of the work they are submitting, however the purpose of the Technical Statement is

so applicants can provide more context as to how the work was created and how it would

be experienced in it's intended situation.

The Category Guidelines also include guided questions that will help you in constructing

your Technical Statement.

In all categories this statement is limited to 200 words.

The Cultural Statement is a required for applicants applying in the Folk/Traditional Arts category

and an optional supplement statement for all other categories.

If your work is rooted in a specific technique and/or cultural tradition and requires additional

explanation you may provide that in the Cultural Statement.

This statement is limited to 700 words for Folk/Traditional Arts applicants and 400 words

for all other categories.

Applicants may provide up to 10 digital images of their work in the Painting, Folk/Traditional

Arts and Interdisciplinary Work.

To upload an image, click on the Choose Files button - this will open the finder window

on your computer.

Locate where your files are stored on your computer and click Choose to upload.

Images will be viewed in the order in which they are uploaded and should be labeled with

the title of the artwork.

To ensure your order remains, we recommend numbering each image with the sequence 01-10.

Image files must also be jpg files with with the "dot jpg" extension.

When formatting your images, color profile RGB is the recommended for screen viewing

and your image resolution should be a minimum of 72dpi to avoid pixelation.

All applicants have a maximum file upload limit of 2GB per application.

You will be prompted to fill out metadata for each image including the Title, Materials,

Date, Dimensions and any other Information.

Composite images depicting more than one artwork are not allowed.

Posters, event flyers and other promotional images are not recommended.

Applicants in the Video/Film, Interdisciplinary Arts and Folk/Traditional Arts may upload

1- to- 2 full length video samples of their work and 2 excerpts from full length sample.

If you are submitting only 1 full length video sample, you must supply 2 excerpts from that

sample.

To upload a video sample, click on the Choose Files button - this will open the finder window

on your computer.

Locate where your videos are stored on your computer and click Choose to upload.

Once you have uploaded your video, it will display on your application form, applicants

have a maximum file upload limit of 2GB per application.

After you have uploaded your video, you will be prompted to fill out metadata for each

video.

NYFA accepts video samples as mp4 and .mov files - please refer to the Category Guidelines

for more information on how to format your video samples.

Each video sample must relate to only one project, submitting video samples comprised

of multiple clips from different projects is not recommended.

"Sizzle Reels" and Trailers should also be avoided.

Titles and credits should not be included in excerpts.

If you are applying in the Fiction category, you are required to upload a PDF of up to

20 pages of a manuscript as your work sample.

For Manuscripts please upload a PDF that includes: A title page with the title of your works,

and year they were completed and up to 20 pages of work which best represent your work

within the past five years.

If you are including sections of a larger work, you are strongly advised to include

substantial portions, rather than small fragments.

To upload your Manuscript, click on the Choose Files button - this will open the finder window

on your computer.

Locate where your PDF file stored on your computer and click Choose to upload.

After you have uploaded your Manuscript, you will be prompted to fill out metadata for

your file including the Title and Date.

Once you have uploaded your PDF, it will display on your application form, applicants have

a maximum file upload limit of 2GB per application.

Please do not include publication and/or production information anywhere on your manuscript.

Do not include your artistic résumé in your PDF.

Scanned excerpts from books will not be accepted.

Manuscripts must be in English, but can be translated into English by someone other than

the artist.

All manuscripts must be in 12-point font, and double-spaced.

Once you have completed your application, please review your application carefully.

Once submitted, you will no longer be able to make changes to your application so make

sure you have reviewed everything carefully before submitting.

Once you are ready to submit, select the submit button.

Once successfully submitted, you will receive a confirmation email from Submittable.
