WHOS NEXT SWEDISH START-UP BEGINS IMPLANTING ITS EMPLOYEES

For now, its just the willing ones who get the chip, but how long until this becomes

the norm?

Swedish start-up hub Epicenter incorporates more than 100 companies and over 2,000 employees

and in January of 2015, they started implanting microchips.

This procedure is completely optional and until now, around 150 workers have opted to

have a microchip inserted under their skin.

The procedure is almost painless and involves inserting microchips the size of a rice grain

in the flesh next to the thumb.

At the moment, the microchips function like swipe cards, allowing employees to open doors,

operate office printers and even purchase stuff.

The procedure is gaining momentum and the company even hosts monthly parties where those

willing to make the first step towards becoming a cyborg get pricked with a syringe.

The biggest benefit I think is convenience, said Epicenter co-founder and CEO Patrick

Mesterton.

It basically replaces a lot of things you have, other communication devices, whether

it be credit cards or keys.

The implants employ Near Field Communication (NFC) technology and are passive devices,

meaning they can be read but cannot read themselves.

Whenever a microchip is placed a few inches from a reader, the reader initiates communication

via electromagnetic waves.

The same principle applies to contactless credit cards.

The difference between these subdermal implants and contactless credit cards lies in the security

protocols.

Theoretically, the implants could allow hackers to swipe sensitive data without too much hassle

so this procedure brings up an important ethical dilemma.

The data that you could possibly get from a chip that is embedded in your body is a

lot different from the data that you can get from a smartphone, said Ben Libberton,

microbiologist at Stockholms Karolinska Institute.

Conceptually you could get data about your health, you could get data about your whereabouts,

how often youre working, how long youre working, if youre taking toilet breaks

and things like that.

In our day and age, when great emphasis is put on ones security and privacy and an

even greater effort goes into intruding on these rights, does it make sense for you to

waive these privileges just so youll be able to open doors with the swipe of your

hand?

For a long time, conspiracy theorists have been saying that this is how it all begins,

the enslavement of the human being.

You all know that the process is well underway and the willful implanting of a microchip

is just making things easier for those with the power and the intent.

Stereo surveillance.

Cool!!!

Your smartphone is already feeding constant streams of data, giving away your interests

and your position.

Your smart TV is listening.

But at least you can dispose of these.

A microchip, even if its only skin deep, goes with you wherever you go and removing

it is harder and riskier than with the others.

Technology is used for surveillance, no doubt about it.

Like others before it, microchipping starts out as a fad and because its sort of an

enabler, people will follow other people, willingly throwing away their integrity and

giving the ruling elite another ace to be used against them.

By the looks of it, the issue of national security will soon involve tightening the

grip on the population.

They will want to exert a greater control, and what better way to keep an eye on Joe

and Jane other than to crawl under their skin?

But, despite the fact that the world is slowly heading to a collective bad place, people

think its cool to get microchips.

Like one Epicenter employee said, I want to be part of the future!

You will be.

You will be.

Sean Hannity Gets Some TRAGIC News – He Needs Our Prayers…

We've known for weeks now that Barack Obama's administration was spying on Donald Trump.

However, we had no idea that he was spying on someone else in the conservative world

as well. The Gateway Pundit reported that journalist Mike Cernovich dropped a bombshell this week

when he revealed that Obama had been spying on Fox News host Sean Hannity as well.

In addition, he said that Erik Prince, the founder of Blackwater.

It didn't take long for Hannity himself to respond.

This allegation was reportedly given to Cernovich by Charles Johnson of Gotnews.com.

"I have been told that when Susan Rice says that they were not surveilling the transition

members – I don't know if that part's true.

But I can you 100% they were surveilling people who were on this sort of unofficial transition,"

said Johnson.

"So these were people who were helping out on the side.

People like Erik Prince.

People like Sean Hannity.

These were folks having their phones monitored.

Their phones were drained of power."

"I can tell you 100% Sean Hannity was surveilled and had to change all of his material, change

all of his situation on his phone," he added.

MAJOR SHAKEUP IN TRUMP ADMIN – Steve Bannon Removed…

There was a major shakeup in Donald Trump's White House on Wednesday that resulted in

his chief strategist Steve Bannon being removed from the National Security Council.

Bloomberg reported that Bannon had controversially been named to the National Security Council's

principals committee when Trump first took office in a move that drew criticism from

some members of Congress and Washington's foreign policy establishment.

A White House official said Bannon had been placed on the committee to monitor Trump's

first national security adviser, Michael Flynn and that he never actually attended any meetings.

Now that Flynn is gone, Trump no longer feels that Bannon needs to be on the committee,

according to the official.

In addition, Trump downgraded the role of his Homeland Security Adviser Tom Bossert

in today's shakeup.

National Security Adviser H.R. McMaster was given the responsibility of setting the agenda

for meetings of the NSC or the Homeland Security Council and was allowed to delegate this job

to Bossert at his discretion.

Now, National Intelligence Director Dan Coats and Marine Corps General Joseph Dunford, chairman

of the Joint Chiefs of Staff, will once again be "regular attendees" of the NSC's

principals committee.

We will update you further as this story develops.

Donald Trump Jr. Breaks His Silence To ANNIHILATE Susan Rice

This week, Barack Obama's former national security advisor Susan Rice was exposed as

the person who requested the "unmasking" of Trump's associates on raw intelligence

reports.

Afterwards, Donald Trump Jr. couldn't resist bashing her on Twitter for what she did.

Western Journalism reported that Rice gave an interview to MSNBC on Tuesday in which

she awkwardly denied spying on President Donald Trump's associates for political purposes.

Afterwards, Donald Jr. wrote that she "should have gone to CNN that way she would get the

Qs in advance …" He then pointed out that Rice was given softball questions during her

interview, instead of being given "real" difficult questions.

In the first part of his tweet, the First Son was referring to the incident last year

in which interim Democratic National Committee chair Donna Brazile, who at the time also

served as a CNN commentator, gave debate questions to Democratic presidential candidate Hillary

Clinton in advance.

Rice had desperately tried to defend herself during her MSNBC interview.

"There were occasions when I would receive a report in which a U.S. person was referred

to — name not provided, just a U.S. person — and sometimes in that context, in order

to understand the importance of the report and assess its significance, it was necessary

to find out, or request the information as to who the U.S. official was," Rice said,

going on to claim that it was normal for national security officials to request sometimes that

identities be uncovered.

"The notion that some people are trying to suggest, is that by asking for the identity

of a person is leaking it, is unequivocally false," Rice said.

"There is no connection between unmasking and leaking."

Blogger and political activist Mike Cernovich was the first to break the story about Rice,

and Donald Jr. said he deserves to win the Pulitzer Prize in another Tuesday tweet.

JUST IN 75 Illegal Aliens Detained In MASSIVE Raid – Watch How They React…

Before he took office, Donald Trump promised that he would crack down on illegal immigration

like no president had before.

This week, he showed that he is following through with this promise in a big way.

News Channel 6 reported that 75 illegal aliens were arrested in North Texas and Oklahoma

in a 3-day Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) operation.

The Department of Homeland Security said the operation aimed to target criminal aliens,

illegal re-entrants, and immigration fugitives, and that it occurred from April 1-3.

50 of the arrests were made in Texas in these cities: Abilene (5), Amarillo (1), Arlington

(2), Canadian (1), Carrollton (1), Dallas (11), Denton (1), Fort Worth (1), Frisco (1),

Garland (2), Lewisville (1), Lubbock (10), Muleshoe (1), Plainview (2), San Angelo (2),

Slaton (1) and Tyler (7).

The other 25 arrests came in Oklahoma, with 18 being detained in Oklahoma City and the

other 10 being detained in Tulsa.

ICE confirmed that all 75 of the illegal aliens that were arrested had prior criminal convictions.

"We specifically targeted criminal aliens during this operation and we improved overall

public safety by removing 52 convicted criminal aliens from our streets throughout North Texas

and Oklahoma.

This was a focused three-day operation, but our routine operations occur daily," said

Simona L. Flores, field office director for ERO Dallas.

Liberals are of course furious about this, but we applaud Trump for taking action to

DEPORT illegal aliens with criminal records!

Legendary Music Star Comes Out as Gay – Fans Shocked

Millions of fans all over the world were stunned today when legendary singer Barry Manilow

came out as gay.

Daily Mail reported that Manilow, 73, just gave an interview in which he confirmed that

though he stayed in the closet publicly for most of his life, he has secretly been married

to his manager Garry Kief for years.

He said he kept quiet about his sexuality for decades due to fears of disappointing

his fans.

"I thought I would be disappointing them if they knew I was gay.

So I never did anything," Manilow said.

"When they found out that Garry and I were together, they were so happy," he added.

"The reaction was so beautiful – strangers commenting, 'Great for you!'

I'm just so grateful for it."

For years, Manilow was rumored to be dating TV production assistant Linda Allen.

He was actually living with her when he first began dating Kief, but the two were never

actually together romantically.

Manilow finally married Kief in a "clandestine wedding" on his Palm Springs property.

"I didn't think I was going to be that emotional," Manilow said of the wedding.

"It was deeper than we thought it was going to be saying 'I love you' in front of

people."

Manilow was previously married to his high school sweetheart Susan Deixler, but they

divorced after a year.

However, he said their split had nothing to do with his sexuality.

"I was in love with Susan, I just was not ready for marriage.

I was out making music every night, sowing my wild oats – I was too young.

I wasn't ready to settle down," Manilow said.

Damning Susan Rice Footage Surfaces – This Will Be Played At Her Trial…

This week, Barack Obama's former national security advisor Susan Rice was exposed as

the person who requested the "unmasking" of Trump's associates on raw intelligence

reports.

Afterwards, Rice went on MSNBC to try and defend herself in an interview with Andrea

Mitchell, but it backfired in a big way…

Angry Patriot Movement reported that despite the fact that Mitchell was lobbing her fairly

easy questions, Rice appeared extremely shaken and panicked.

The more Rice sweated, the more guilty she looked, which only served to make her more

of a liability for Democrats.

This comes as Kentucky Republican Rep. Thomas Massie told Breitbart believed that this Rice

revelation is only the beginning of the corruption that is about to be exposed.

"You know?

I think there is even more to this story than is being revealed right now," said Massie.

"For over three years, I have been offering legislation to fix this problem."

He went on to say that he agrees with Kentucky Sen. Rand Paul that Rice should be brought

before Congress to testify under oath.

"Oh, I think we should, but if we express all this righteous indignation about these

programs?

We are obligated to fix these programs," he said.

Matt & Jeff Hardy Broken Gimmick Update! WWE Releases Former Tag Team Champion! | WrestleTalk News - Duration: 4:24.

Hello and welcome to the WrestleTalk News! I'm Oli Davis, and I'll be replying to

as many comments on this video as I can. Matt and Jeff Hardy, Shinsuke Nakamura, The

Revival, Tye Dillinger, Emma, Finn Balor and, of course, Big Red Everything Erick Rowan

- with all these wrestlers either returning to or debuting on the main roster, a few current

talents are going to lose out. And ahead of next week's Superstar Shake-Up, we have

our first. WWE have announced the release of former NXT tag team champion Simon Gotch,

with their usual copy and paste statement: "WWE has come to terms on a mutually agreed

upon release with Simon Gotch as of today, April 5, 2017. WWE wishes Gotch the best of

all of his future endeavors." Gotch first signed with WWE in 2013, where

he formed The Vaudevillians tag team with Aiden English. The two would go onto become

one-time NXT tag team champions before their call-up in April last year. They were quickly

inserted into the WWE Tag Team championship picture, losing twice to The New Day's longest

ever title reign, and then started to slide down the card.

Backstage at last July's WWE Draft episode of Smackdown, Gotch reportedly had an altercation

with Sin Cara, which brought the latter's undefeated backstage fight streak to a then

3-0. The former Hunico would later bring this to 4-0, overcoming the fearsome Chris Jericho

on a tour bus in November. There have been various rumours on why WWE

have released Gotch. Reddit user AdamRFox, who accurately leaked Shinsuke Nakamura and

Tye Dillinger debuts before this week's Smackdown - actually posting footage of WWE

production staff testing Nakamura's entrance lighting - claims that Gotch "was just 'Bad'

as they put it. Simon put too many people at risk everytime he wrestled. As far as the

Vaudevillians go, there will be no new member. Aiden English will be getting a singles push

as time goes on." Dave Meltzer has backed this up on Wrestling

Observer Radio, noting Gotch had his enemies and the company wants to give English a solo

run. There was another rumour that Gotch had a

fight with his tag team partner English backstage at Wrestlemania, but this has been heavily

debunked by the former Vaudevillian on Twitter: Literally not one part of this is true, though

props on possibly the worst fanfic I've ever read.

I'm in the process of lining up some interviews and such. I'll address everything soon.

The post-Wrestlemania episode of Smackdown drew an average of 2.89 million viewers, which

is way up from last week's 2.7, and even more from last year's post-Mania show, which

only pulled in 2.44. That was pre-taped and pre-brand split, though. 64% of you thought

it was a ⅘ show at SmackTastic, while 18% thought it even better, awarding the top rating

of SmackDamn. Wrestling News World are reporting a few interesting

details about the Hardy Boyz' DELIGHTFUL WWE return, along with how the company are

handling the Broken gimmick ownership battle - where Impact Wrestling claim to hold the

character rights. The site claim that Matt's wife Reby Sky

has been working with WWE lawyers in the lawsuit, and it was hoped to be cleared up before their

Wrestlemania return. Unfortunately, the case wasn't resolved in time.

WWE reportedly don't want to give Impact Wrestling any money for using the Broken gimmick,

and will likely stay away from the actual lawsuit. But this "does not mean they will

not give Reby and the Hardys all of their legal aid now that they are signed."

Wrestling News World note the TNA used the 'Charismatic Enigma' name for Jeff - which

was used and developed in WWE - and that "may be used as a precedent in the suit".

How should WWE have turned Sasha Banks heel at Wrestlemania? Hear me fantasy book that

in the brand new episode of The WrestleTalk Show. And a former tag team champion has been

released from WWE! Find out who by clicking the videos to the left and subscribe.

I've been Oli Davis, and that was wrestling.

A Travis Scott & Migos Show Was Shut Down By the Cops - Duration: 1:58.

Hey guys, what's going on?

For Complex News, I'm Tamara Dhia.

You know your school is down when they invite Travis Scott, Migos and Rae Sremmurd, arguably

three of the biggest acts right now, to perform on campus.

Unfortunately for USC students however, that means too many people got the memo and their

annual Springfest was shut down when police forced Migos and Travis Scott to cut their

performance due to safety concerns.

Rae Sremmurd, the event's headliner, never even hit the stage.

According to the

school's paper, the Daily Trojan, the overcrowding became so dangerous it even sent one person

to the hospital.

"Migos had begun performing their second song of the night, after their set had already

been delayed for more than 30 minutes.

One of the members of Migos' team urged crowd members to step back and stop pushing one

another and to leave the crowd area if they were in need of medical attention."

One student described the situation as "super scary."

Via the Daily Trojan:

"People just started passing out in my friend's arms and suffocating.

We were trying to get people's attention - no one was paying attention.

It was super scary.

I though people were going to stampede and that someone was going to die.

A concert is not worth that."

A lot of the students seem to contend that though disappointed, it was the right call

by officials to shut it down.

It was simply poor planning on the Concerts Committee's part for not anticipating how

many people would show up for Travis, Migos and Rae Sremmurd.

Thankfully there were no serious injuries.

That's all we got for now but for the rest of today's updates, keep it locked right here

to Complex.

For Complex News, I'm Tamara Dhia.

The Story of Splatoon in 3 Minutes AND MORE!!! | Videogames In 3 @ArcadeCloud - Duration: 11:07.

This is Splatoon in three minutes.

Let's splat on some stuff. Ew!

There exist two races underwater

the Inklings, a squid race, and the Octarians

you know, octopuses, octopi, whatever.

Both Inkling and Octarian citizens

used to actually like each other and get along well

but then the sea levels start to rise

flooding most of the available territory

and putting many Inklings

and Octarians out of their homes.

George Bush doesn't care about Inklings.

The fabled ancient Turf War begins.

Battle after battle

the Octarians and Inklings fight for territory.

The Octarians are victorious again and again.

The Inklings keep losing their territory

which is now covered in octopus ink.

This drives the Inklings out of the water

and onto ground, where they adapt.

The Inklings start to grow hands and feet

with phalanges and all that @#$%!

They make their new home underground

living in caves deep under the earth

the Inklings travel between them

through a network of interconnected transporters.

Because of what they look like

these devices are known as Kettles.

The people of Inkopolis discover the Zapfish

a rare electric catfish.

The Inklings harness them as their main source of energy.

They put their biggest Zapfish

the Great Zapfish in the city tower

where it supplies all the zaps.

The Octarians learn about the power

of the Zapfish

and how well the Inklings are doing for themselves.

The Octarians decide to assault the Inklings again

but this time, they're unsuccessful.

Thanks to their evolved superior limbs

the Inklings now have an advantage

over the Octarians.

Two thousand years later, the Octarians

now led by main antagonist and overall douche DJ Octavio

build an underground facility known as Octo Valley.

They use the facility to capture

and use the Zapfish from Inkopolis

not only draining the Inklings' primary energy source

but to use the power to make Great Octoweapons

weapons that would turn the Turf Wars

in the Octarians' favour again.

The Octarians build a transit system similar

to the Inklings' Kettles.

Captain Cuttlefish, an elderly Inkling

who's been around since the Great Turf Wars

helps an Inkling to become a hero

and save Inkopolis from the Octarians once again.

Equipped with the Hero Suit and Hero Shot

the Inkling hero infiltrates the Octarian facilities

in order to get the Zapfish back to Inkopolis

and preventing the Octarians from making their weapons.

Two birds with one sticky ink shot.

The hero makes his way through Octo Valley

covering Octarians in his hot ink spray, ew

and saving the Inkopolian Zapfish.

In the end, the hero runs into DJ Octavio

who has been in charge of stealing the Zapfish

and the Turf Wars.

And the Inkling

and the EDM Octarian do battle.

Ink is shot everywhere. Some beats are dropped.

It's all really colourful

but the hero sprays enough ink all over DJ Octavio and wins.

Ew, this is just gross.

DJ Octavio blows the @#$%! up.

Extreme ink ejaculation!

The Great Zapfish is returned to the Inkopolis Tower.

The City of Inkopolis throws

a surprisingly long and expensive looking party

to celebrate them getting their power back.

Two years later, the Inklings of Inkopolis

are pulled into another Turf War.

We're not sure with who yet

but you can be sure we're gonna spray ink

all over their faces

maybe get some in their mouth.

Guys, why are you making me say this?

Snake Pass - REVIEW (Nintendo Switch) - Duration: 6:21.

A game where you are a snake, in a jungle world with a soundtrack by David Wise, best

known for making the tunes for Donkey Kong Country.

That had me sold, but Snake Pass by Sumo Digital didn't just rest on their laurels of having

David Wise as its composer.

Starting off, how does one play as a snake?

No, you don't sneak around in a box.

Noodle the vegetarian snake, no M rating here, moves forward around with the ZR trigger button.

Slither from side to side to get a bit of a speed boost.

Reach upwards by pressing A and use ZL to coil around objects tighter and even lock

yourself in place.

This fairly simply button scheme ends up being able to get a lot done in the game world setup

chock full of large bamboo poles to wind around.

Some of these bamboo pole structures are friendly, others treacherous and a few of seem downright

impossible at first.

A big part of Snake Pass for me, was going back to replay old levels and see if I could

tackle challenges that I couldn't handle before.

I was able to zip through levels that before I would be extremely cautious on.

Snake Pass is pretty forgiving about physics and it really does help to have momentum to

power through obstacles.

This snake does have an ace up his, er, somewhere, for when you're in trouble.

You can call your hummingbird buddy to pick up your tail, which is helpful in situations

to give that final little boost over a ledge.

Not necessary most of the time, and sometimes won't save you, but it is handy on occasion.

There's even a water world to put a new twist on controls, filled with aquatic ambience

from what was my favourite David Wise track in the game.

…*pause for music*…

Yeah, there's no mistaking who composed that.

What Snake Pass manages to pull off is really incredible from a technical and gameplay perspective.

I don't know if Unreal Engine 4 is simply that good or if some programmer is a genius

at Sumo Digital but they made wrapping around objects look easy.

With a game like this, I'd expect the snake to become some sort of garbled glitchy mess

with tons of clipping errors, but nope, Snake Pass is solid.

The closest game I could think of is Noby Noby Boy and looking back, that was far more

floaty.

Snake pass is only floaty while Noodle is falling, to perhaps give the player more of

a chance for recovery.

In addition, Noodle can traverse on almost all of the world's geometry with the exception

of some trees and thin hanging branches.

There aren't any invisible walls and barriers, although that may benefit from the levels

being composed of large floating islands.

For the most part, if you see something, you can work your way to it, OR you can make it

to certain points or collectibles in a way that wasn't necessarily intended.

It was very, very rare that I got stuck on any geometry.

This is the sort of freedom I loved in Mario 64 way back when, and what we have also seen

in Breath of the Wild more recently.

I played Snake Pass with a pro controller, but I did try playing a few levels with joy-cons

also.

And well, I found using that middle-aligned right analog stick to move around the camera

isn't so comfortable.

If you only have joy-cons and want to leave that right analog stick alone, the camera

does do decent job most of the time and you can center it with the left trigger.

However, lining up the camera in tough spots does come in handy at avoid accidental falls.

Simply put: I would highly recommend getting a pro controller.

There are 15 levels, and I was thinking I was in for a really short game based off how

quick the first two or three levels went.

However, those levels are mainly there only to show you the ropes and do a really good

job at teaching what you can do the rest of the game.

Later levels are pretty sizeable and generally in a manageable three part structure for each

keystone that you have to recover, especially thanks to their beacons of light.

And fortunately, Doodle the hummingbird sidekick keeps quiet from hand-holding at that point

onwards.

Snake Pass really encourages exploration and I found levels designed in a way that really

communicated well about when to expect a hidden item nearby.

Like when you just know a block is going to have a mushroom in Mario, Snake Pass manages

to do similar things in a new series.

Clever tricks like having a gap in the middle of a slide, or a subtle bit of bamboo sticking

over a ledge help hint at these.

Not all of the 5 gatekeeper coins or 20 blue orbs in each level are hinted at though, some

you have spend time exploring or work your way backwards through the level to see, and

others are visible in plain sight but just plain tough to get.

In Snake Pass, it's one thing to go out on a ledge and get a collectible, it's another

thing coming back alive.

And what I came to realize is that it was best to practice "checkpoint management"

to immediately hit a checkpoint after collecting a tough coin or orb to avoid having to do

it again.

This part wasn't the best short-term but after finishing a level, the game takes note

of which orbs and coins you did get, so you don't have to collect them ever again.

Also in levels, It's not just purely winding your way through them; Some levels have levers

or spools to wind around as a trigger to start an event or rotate part of it to access new

areas.

It's worth noting that while the game's frame rate is mostly smooth, it did chug from

time to time when large distant areas were visible.

Hopefully Unreal Engine 4 will continue to be more optimized for Nintendo Switch in the

future, and Snake Pass ended up looking pretty darn good after all.

One of the weaker points of the game was the story.

While the game did give a reason to why the 3 keystones in each level were out of place,

I felt that I was getting half the game's story and lore through messages on the loading

screen before each level.

Could the game have gone without a story?

Probably could, but it did hint an end encounter that might encourage players to slither on.

On the plus side, any cutscenes were quick to get through and then it's right back

to gameplay.

Some of my main issues with Snake Pass were not with the game itself but with presentation

that normally I take for granted.

I found out Snake Pass wasn't auto saving my game progress after finishing each level

when one time my pro controller and all its buttons stopped detecting in-game but worked

still on the Switch via the home button.

I had to restart the game and lost 8 levels of progress.

I'm guessing at some point there will be an update to fix this if it hasn't already,

there wasn't a save button in the menu so to get around this, I had to go back to the

main game screen and from there it would auto-save.

And here's one that fooled me the first time, note how the buttons on the screen don't

reflect the layout of the Switch controller.

Small issues aside, in the end I was impressed by how well Snake Pass played.

Overall, I'd say I "liked" Snake Pass' mostly relaxing gameplay experience that made

me think of new ways to get around in a game.

Sure there were some tough parts for collectibles that were frustrating but the game's system

allowed me to leave them and come back later when I was better at the game.

Does bitter have a sound? - Duration: 5:12.

It's me, that is Alex.

Let's PlayTheMind, shall we?

Wanna hear what the four basic tastes sound like?

Here they are.

The excerpts you just heard come from a study where a computer algorithm took care of writing

the music.

Four different-sounding compositions were created, and then played back to human subjects.

Their job was to label each one of the compositions by using only one of the four basic tastes.

And the result was that across different people, the same taste-labels were chosen to describe

the same compositions.

One concern with this study was that the people had to use the words for the tastes, instead

of experiencing the actual tastes through food samples, for instance by eating a salty

chip and then associating one of the compositions accordingly.

This means that it just might be possible that the sound of the taste-words had an influence

on the results.

Just think of how the word "sweet" flows out in one continuous sound, as opposed to the

word "bitter" which has percussive elements.

How about getting rid of words, and using chocolate instead?

A more recent study took care of eliminating the vocabulary bias by giving the subjects

four different chocolate samples, each one containing a different-tasting ganache filling.

The conclusion was that the musical characteristics previously linked to the four basic tastes

remain the same, thus being confirmed.

The association people make between sound a taste isn't a recent one.

Think of the lyrics to the song Amazing Grace "how sweet the sound", or the 1883 pamphlet

called "The Bitter Cry of Outcast London".

Even composer Hector Berlioz describes the oboe as having a "petite voix aigre-douce".

And where does umami fit in all this?

The human tongue is covered with approximately 5000 taste buds, each one containing about

100 or so taste receptor cells.

These cells are responsible for perceiving sweetness, saltiness, sourness and bitterness,

but there's also a fifth taste called umami.

It was first studied in 1908 by Japanese chemist Kikunae Ikeda.

And the term itself derives from the word "umai" meaning "delicious" or "savory".

It's a bit difficult to describe how the tongue perceives umami, but it's the main difference

between tasting beef stock instead of salt water, while pinching your nose.

Given that it's so tricky to isolate this fifth taste from the four other ones, no study

has yet focused on which sound it may be associated with.

Colors and tastes, on the other hand, have a more obvious association than sounds and

tastes.

The visual cues coming from the food you're about to eat give information about its nutritional

content.

And when you keep the same food but change its presentation, the mind gets tricked in

weird ways.

Alex from Technicality describes how modifying the presentation of everyday food can make

it seem to be of better quality, and Brooke from The Psych Show explains how shaping brownies

to make them look like poo can really, really put you off.

There's a hypothesis that color vision became linked to taste perception throughout the

evolution of the human species.

Fruits, for instance, acquire specific color hues as they ripen.

They start off green and sour, they turn red and sweet, and end up black and bitter.

As for the evolutionary purpose of the link between sound and taste, it hasn't received

a satisfactory explanation yet.

One hypothesis is that the sounds we produce as a child while eating get encoded in our

brains.

For instance, when you make a yummy sound when eating something sweet, as opposed to

eating something disgusting and producing a sound coming from deep within your guts.

It's challenge to receive funding for research in either music or gastronomy, but the payoff

is that we're starting to uncover mysteries of the brain long unexplained.

And this can be put to good use.

Sice we've confirmed the link between sound and taste, maybe sound designers in the future

will design soundtracks that will either stimulate people's appetite, or suppress it.

Hashtag DietMusic.

Cheers to that.

Thank you so much for watching, everyone!

Subscribe to PlayTheMind for more content like this coming up, and also take a moment

Star Trek: Cardassian Union (Part 2) - Duration: 8:01.

Bordering the ever growing United Federation of Planets, the Cardassian military became

convinced conflict with humanity and their allies was inevitable.

And so in 2347, they launched a sneak attack against Setlik III, in the mistaken belief

that the Federation was building up their forces in the area to attack the Union.

This then led to decades of war between the powers, ending in years of stalemate until

they signed the Armistice of 2367, then signing a formal treaty in 2370, marking a new demilitarized

border.

As a result of this treaty, several former Cardassian world were now under Federation

control, and similarly many former Federation planets were now part of Cardassian Union.

Feeling as though the Federation had abandoned these colonies, many turned to rebellion and

terrorism.

Using the harsh environment of the badlands as cover for their ships, the Maquis as they

came to be known, demanded their territories be freed.

The Federation, though officially on the side of the Cardassian Union in the conflict, had

many who sympathized with the rebels, with some even abandoning the Federation to join

the Maquis struggle.

In 2370 the Cardassian government attempted to stage a coup on Bajor, by supporting the

circle, an extremist Bajoran faction.

However they ultimately failed and were exposed.

The following year they signed the Bajoran Cardassian Treaty, establishing formal peace

and diplomatic relations between their governments.

By the late 24th century, the Cardassian Union was in a vulnerable position, having lost

much of their prestige and power throughout the past few decades.

However the greatest challenges were yet to face them, as all of the Alpha quadrant and

even the Beta Quadrant came under threat from a Gamma Quadrant power known as the Dominion.

When a wormhole was discovered near Bajor, leading to the far away space of the Gamma

Quadrant, many were eager to fly through, exploring the other side and even settling

colonies on newly discovered worlds.

However as the Bajorans and their allies spread deeper into the Gamma Quadrant, they came

into contact with the Dominion.

Ruled by changeling aliens able to assume many forms, the Founders were revered as gods

by the Vorta who administered their holdings, and Jem Hadar who fought their battles.

As war between the Alpha Quadrant powers and the Dominion became inevitable, a pre-emptive

attack was launched against the Founder homeworld in 2371.

This effort was organized by Enabran Tain, head of the espionage agency the Obsidian

Order, working with their counterparts in the Tal Shiar of the Romulan Star Empire.

However their secret project was infiltrated by a changeling agent, who encouraged this

effort, so the Dominion might trap their fleet, resulting in a crushing victory for the Gamma

Quadrant Forces at the Battle of the Omarion Nebula.

This devastating loss, caused the fall of the Obsidian Order, allowing for Military

Central Command to take full power within the Union.

Eventually a dissident movement grew, overthrowing Military leadership and establishing a Civilian

Government under the Detapa Council.

However as tensions continued to rise through the Alpha and Beta quadrants, Dominion covert

operations were able to manipulate the Klingons Empire into launching an unprovoked attack

against the Cardassian Union, justifying their actions by claiming that the recent change

in government was a Dominion plot to take control.

Despite their alliance, the Federation condemned their actions, and so Chancellor Gowron broke

off relations with the Federation leading to 2 brief but destructive conflicts from

2372-2373 known as the Klingon Cardassian War and Federation-Klingon War * Weakening

them significantly when they should be preparing for an invasion.

*Gul Dukat fall from power and one ship war Eventually they discovered that a changeling

infiltrator had taken the place of General Martok, who advised Gowron to go to war with

the Cardassian Union.

In 2373, with the Dominion armies preparing to enter the Alpha Quadrant, Gul Dukat, former

leader of the military made a backdoor deal to ally with the invasion force, in exchange

for being made Ruler of the Cardassian Union.

And so when the Dominion fleet came through the wormhole, they made their way to Cardassian

space, where they would stage their invasion.

Through this alliance, the Cardassians were reinvigorated and made an Alpha Quadrant superpower

once again.

The Maquis rebels of the badlands were quickly destroyed, while the Klingons were chased

back into their own space, restoring Cardassian territories completely.

When the Federation placed mines at the mouth of the wormhole, to prevent further reinforcements

from the gamma quadrant, the Dominion attacked, with the now Legate Dukat in charge of the

war effort, while the Vorta Weyoun oversaw his actions on behalf of the Founders.

Dukat and the Dominion-Cardassian forces successfully gained control of the Federation Space Station

Deep Space Nine* but found the computer system sabotaged and the mines extremely difficult

to dismantle.

Nevertheless the Dominion pressed the attack and began seeing major gains, bringing the

Federation-Klingon alliance to the brink of defeat.

However the allies realized it was only a matter of time before the mines were disarmed

and so rallied together and engaged in Operation Return, gathering a massive armada to retake

Deep Space Nine, and regain control of the wormhole.

Despite being greatly outnumbered, federation and Klingon forces were able to create an

opening in the enemy line, allowing the Captain Benjamin Sisko aboard the Defiant to make

his way through and enter the wormhole, where he negotiated with the powerful non corporeal

aliens that lived there, and had a mysterious but special bond with the planet Bajor and

individual Benjamin Sisko.

And so the aliens, worshipped as the Prophets by the Bajorans, agreed to interfere, causing

dominion reinforcements to vanish as they made through the wormhole.

Dukat and the Dominion were relying on those ships to help them achieve victory, and so

when they saw no reinforcements were coming, they quickly fled from the space station and

retreated with their forces to Cardassian space.

All except Dukat, who suffered a nervous breakdown after his second in command Damar shot and

killed his daughter Zayel who refused to leave the station with her father.

Damar was then made leader of the Cardassian Union, although he became a mere puppet of

the Dominion, with the Cardassian government losing all influence, making heavy sacrifices

in future conflicts and were even forced to accept territorial concessions to the Breen

Confederacy who joined the Dominion in the second half of the war.

Damar, at first simply drank to numb the pain of his people's humiliation, but after reconnecting

with his old friend Dukat, came to realize that he had to act.

And so Damar led a formal rebellion, convincing many to join his cause.

And even reached out to the Federation and Bajor allying together against the dominion.

Unfortunately a traitor within the new rebellion revealed their location and the army was massacred.

Nevertheless Damar went on to lead a citizens revolution on Cardassia Prime itself, rallying

the population to overthrow their Dominion overlords.

This occurred at the same time the Federation-Klingons and now Romulan alliance launched a final

attack against Dominion forces in the Alpha Quadrant.

In the middle of the battle, Cardassian forces turned against the Dominion and so in retaliation,

the Founders ordered that the citizenry itself be wiped out on Cardassia Prime.

And while Damar died in the battle, his forces successfully captured a Changeling Founder,

allowing for the alliance to negotiate a formal surrender.

Despite the efforts to make Cardassia a vibrant power once more, the Dominion-Cardassian alliance

ended in defeat and utter devastation.

Having been on the front lines of battle, and enduring most of the collateral destruction,

by the end of the 24th century, the Cardassian Union was a shell of its former self, forced

to rebuild from the ashes of their fallen civilization.

BookTube Newbie Tag - Duration: 5:01.

Well hello, I'm back today with the

booktube newbie tag! We're gonna

jump right into the questions, first

things 1st Why did you start this

YouTube channel? Well there's a lot of

reasons, the first reason which you can

hear more about in my overview video

which I'll link up there. Uh, is because I

wanted to chronicle my writing journey

because I'm in the revision phase of the

writing process and they've learned so

much along the way and because knowledge

is power and I wanted to share that with

you guys. The next reason is because I

wanted to be able to connect with

everyone watching me and my favorite

booktubers, and lastly just because it's

such a great creative outlet. I've been

working on a lot of really cool video

ideas and I can't wait to share them

with you guys. Question 2: What are some

fun and unique things you can bring to

booktube? Well, I wanted to talk about

writing the nuts and bolts of it. I

wanted us all to be able to gain the

skills that we needed to be able to

write the stories we've always wanted. I

want us all to go on writing journeys

together. I guess my other unique things

would be my intrigued and irresistible

charm. Question 3: What are you most excited for

about this new channel? Probably all the

great opportunities it could bring I'm

excited to show you guys the videos I've

been working on and I'm also eager to

learn all I can about writing. Question

4: Why do you like reading? I like

getting attached to you or growing with

characters, sometimes when I grow with

characters and they learn something

about themselves, it's almost like I can

learn something about myself along the

way. I also like to go on adventures and

I think it's amazing all the different

worlds authors can create. I always get

excited when I think about starting a

new book! Question 5: What book or series

got you into reading? This is a funny one

actually, and I've got a whole story

about this because I remember the exact

book that got me into reading. Ah, when I

was in third grade I freaking hated

reading. I hated it so much ... I hated

reading with the passion. We always had

to take these stupid tests, and the tests

would serve as our grade for reading

class.

So the teacher got on to me, she was like

"It's ridiculous you're not reading more

books!" So, third grade David was like I'm

gonna show her, so what I did was I

started reading Buffy the Vampire

Slayer tie-in novels. I remember the

exact one, it was called "Portal Through

Time" and i sadly don't have it anymore,

but i'll put a picture of the cover like

right here or somewhere over there.

Me and one of my friends used

to wake up in third grade at 5 A.M. just to

watch Buffy reruns before school. We were

that serious, so I decided if I was going

to read anything it was going to be

Buffy, and so I read during lunch, recess,

free time, reading time like all the time.

Until the teacher eventually said she

was worried I was gonna burn out on

reading, and that I needed to slow down.

So third third grade David was proud.

Question 6: What would you ask your

favorite booktubers? I'd probably ask them

can we be friends, and let's talk about

some books? Question 7: What challenges in

starting a booktube channel do you think

will be the toughest to overcome? I think

for me posting regularly will be kind of

challenging, just to remember that i

always need to film videos every week

and post them on Thursday. My problem is

i always want to put so much work into

each video, that it would just take me a

ridiculous amount of time to film all

the videos that i have in my head. Ah, so,

I mean there's even / I have a

script right now, that i have been

storyboarding, you guys, so but please do

be excited! I might give you guys some

hints somewhere... Outlining and scripting

the advice videos is also pretty time

consuming, but I something I really

enjoy. Also I think the tech side of

recording is pretty challenging I'm a

bookie not a techie. Question 8: When did

you start reading? Well I think I

answered that in question 5, it was the

3rd grade. Question 9: Where do you like

to read? I really love to read outside,

there's just something about the wind

and especially on sunny days the way the

Sun feels, it's just like it's perfect.

and Question 10:

What kind of books do you read? This

question is tough for me to answer

because I really read all kinds of books,

but if I had to

pick I guess I'm like a sci-fi and

horror buff. So yeah, well that was my

booktube newbie tag. I hope you enjoyed

it, if you did please make sure to give

me a thumbs up and comment down below. If

you've done this tag, let me know. - Catch

you next time!
