I'm from generation Y.
a.k.a. "Millenials"
The generation born between the 1980's and the year 2000.
And I'm tired of the negative and wrong comments about us made by the generation before us.
According to them, generation Y is lazy, selfish, addicted to technology, egoist,
and a generation that wants to become a billionaire without doing anything.
Here is my question. Are we to blame?
We drifted into a state we did not create to begin with.
When we were young, we were told that we could become anyone we wanted and we could do anything we wanted.
But afterwards we saw that it was not the case.
Because they were the ones, the generation before us, that did exactly what they wanted.
What was left for us were things such as unpaid internships,
a terrible economy and global warming.
We did not create these. They were handed to us and they want us to fix it.
We are not responsible for the global warming but they want us to fix it,
we did not start wars but they want us to end them.
We are doing our best to fix the poor economy, end the global warming, eliminate racism and sexism...
But hey, I spend too much time on my phone, right?
Have you asked why I do so? I'll start from the beginning.
I need a job to live my life.
And for that I need a degree, and for degree I need to go to university.
And to cover for my school expenses I need to have a part-time job.
Because with this economy you messed up it is even hard to make ends meet with double salary.
I need to pass an exam covering ALL of the courses so that I can study at a university.
I need to solve questions of a course that I'm not even interested in the first place.
Whatever, I did my best to get a degree and I got it.
Wait, what's that? They are asking of me a three years of job experience at least to be eligible for the position.
Who wants this? People who do not even speak another language.
From whom do they want? From my generation who can speak at least two languages.
It seems that the unpaid internships in which I ran errands and wasted my time during my university period are useless.
Fortunately I had different jobs giving up my free time.
By the way, I was spending too much time on my phone, right? People do not learn about the news on the printed media anymore.
But first I think I need to talk about what an e-mail address is to my boss who says "how can I send an e-mail?"
I spend too much time on my phone because I need to put a heart emoji under my friend's latest post on Instagram who spends 12 hours a day...
...with classes, part-time job, internship, exams and still fails to achieve what she/he wants.
She/he needs this because of depression, panic attack and anxiety.
So here is another question, who is to blame?
We are complaining about racism, slavery, class distinctions, sexism and we are doing our best to fix them,
and the generation before us says: "Generation Y does nothing but wants lots of things".
You were the ones who enslaved people due to their skin colours,
regarded women as lower class,
messed up the economy and started wars.
But still our generation has to sacrifice things so that the generation before us can feel better.
By the way, if you invested in education or creating new job opportunities instead of wars,
it would be much better for us.
At least we wouldn't have to kill each other within the economy you messed up.
I'm from generation Y and I do not fit in the description you make.
And I do not apologize for the adjective you made up in your head.
Here is my video.
It's a bit different from my other videos, I know.
But I read an article about why generation Y sucks,
and why they are lazy, egoist, selfish and do nothing.
I wanted to make a response video to that.
Because it really made me angry.
If you are from generation Y,
and think like me because you hear these things a lot, do not forget to share the video.
At least we can change what people think about us.
Don't forget to subscribe to the channel if you still haven't.
See you in the next videos. Take care. Goodbye!
