YouTube decided to Steal a Creator's Video Without Giving them any credit
Welcome to Inform Overload, Im your host Johnny Rogers and if youre new to the channel, we
find the most interesting news stories on the internet and we make them more entertaining
Considering that the platform just posted one of the most disliked videos of all time
you think they would lay low for a bit.
Unfortunately things just keep getting worse for YouTube after they shared a holiday greeting
on Twitter and used a creators video without credit or permission.
Considering how fast YouTube hands out copyright strikes you think someone in the editing department
would know better and even if it was missed there you would hope the people uploading
it would have said something, but nope.
On Christmas day YouTube posted the self described domino artist Lily Heveshs video and chose
to skip her opening 20 seconds where she introduces herself.
Approximately 14 hours after the video was posted to Twitter Lily was made aware of this
and responded by saying.
Very glad to see that my Christmas domino e-card is getting good use - However, Im a
bit disappointed that YouTube would take my video and re-upload it with absolutely no
credit.
People rip off my work everyday and its honestly saddening to see this happen by YouTube itself.
The larger issue here is that the platform directly caused her to lose money.
YouTube creators depend on views and subscribers to keep ad deals and to further secure sponsorship
money.
However with YouTube using the video they in turn are reaping the rewards and it becomes
a missed opportunity to show support for their own community.
Like I mentioned before YouTube even violated its own terms of service and would otherwise
ban users who did this.
After the tweet went viral with people commenting to give her credit they did back pedal a bit.
The original tweet is still active on their Twitter page, but they posted an apology tweet
which made things worse.
Saying - Our mistake - we forgot to credit - at hevesh 5 - for this video - Check out
more of - at havesh 5s - epic domino art here - youtube.com back slash Havesh5.
Sure they linked to her page, but they still didnt link to her original video that they
ripped off, instead they embedded the video they stole redirecting you back to the original
tweet people were taking issue with.
As one twitter comment put it - Forgot is a funny way to spell - completely missed rule
on of our own website.
Many people are debating both sides of this saying that Lily should be happy with the
attention regardless and that it was an honest mistake, however the other side aruges that
if anyone should be playing by the rules its the site that made them.
Let me know in the comments what you think about this.
Was it an honest mistake or were they trying to get away without crediting.
With that lets move on to some featured comments from the video titled - Rapper Too short says
