what's going on guys welcome back today we're talking about the panasonic lumix
lx10 point shoot camera we've talked about that last time before on this channel I love
this camera it's compact you can shoot 4k video you can use it as a macro
camera has a 1.4 aperture and a lot of great other features with the main
downside being that there's no audio input but all that in consideration it's
a great camera so one question that comes up a lot is what type of video
settings do I have on my other x10 specifically as it relates to making
YouTube videos and vlogging so we're gonna go through them today so first up
the photo style a lot of people have a lot of different preferences here I've
always liked the natural photo style I use it across all of my Lumix cameras
just so I can get a little bit of consistency and I keep it at negative 5
contrast and negative 5 sharpness so the main reason that do that is the contrast
on the sharpness is pretty intense out of the box and I would rather be able to
add it later in post and try to take it away so I put it in negative 5 so it's
the lowest it can possibly be and then I manage whatever I want to add back
whenever I have the video in my editor when all these other settings that
basically have them to off so the next ones record format I'm always an mp4 cuz
basically I want to go to shoot in 4k and that's the only one that I can use
that actually shoots 4k end of story for me in terms of record quality I shoot in
4k I like 24 frames per second and so I use that setting in terms of exposure
mode I keep it on manual at all times I want to be able to adjust the aperture
and the shutter speed to whatever I want depending on the shot that I'm doing in
my needs at that time I want full control over it so I keep it in manual
100% of the time high-speed videos obviously when you want to shoot
slow-motion so it's gonna be off until you do in terms of sensitivity obviously
this is your ISO setting this is actually one of the more frustrating
things I think of this camera is the fact that it's buried in the menu makes
it very hard to use and so I'm gonna show you guys a trick or what I did to
make it much easier to deal with I actually changed this front dial here to
be my ISO setting so that I don't have to dig into the menu anytime I'm on the
run trying to change my sensitivity plus the default setting for this ring is
zoom which you don't really need because you already have a button right here to
be able to zoom in and out so this just makes it super easy to go to change
something that before you'd have to dive into the settings now I know about you
guys but I saw some that I change on just about every shot because there's no
auto ISO feature so having it here on this ring dial is a huge improvement
that's the sweet tip so in order to make that change what you do is you go down
to the custom menu you go all the way down to page number
seven and you dive into the ring dial set menu item at that point you can
change the top ring dial outside of the default normal down to ISO sensitivity
and that's it from now on every time you that dial will update your ISO set in
terms of autofocus mode I've tried a few different modes and the one that I like
best is the one area obviously when you're vlogging you think that face
tracking is probably the best one and it works relatively well but what I found
is that the one area's actually been the best in terms of having a consistent
autofocus as well as being a little bit more flexible when I'm out vlogging so
i'ma give you an example of what I mean when I'm out vlogging and the cameras
pointing at me obviously face tracking works really well because it's able to
track my face the whole time but what I found is that one area works just as
well for that and then anytime that I turned the camera around and try to
focus on something else it's much easier to pick up because it's not trying to
find a face in the front in terms of autofocus function you know it's funny I
actually keep this at AFS for most of the time every once in a while I put it
in AF see when I'm shooting video but what I've done lately is I've kept it at
AFS and I've actually turned the continuous autofocus off and the reason
I've been doing this is that I've wanted the most possible control on each shot
to guarantee that I have my subject in focus just turning continuous autofocus
off keeping it at AFS and just halfway pressing the shutter to go to make sure
it's in focus before I start recording it's definitely ideal because you want
to be able to do it on the run you want to not have to worry about it but what I
found is that that little bit of preparation upfront if possible is the
closest thing to guaranteeing that you're gonna get a InFocus shot in terms
of metering mode I use pinpoint just about all the time in terms of logging
it's perfect because any time I point the camera in my face I want to
guarantee that my face has a proper exposure everything else is less
important at that point but the times that I do change it or when I'm trying
to catch video it's not necessarily on my face or on a person and at that point
I change it to center-weighted so that it's a little bit more broad in terms of
what it's looking for anytime we do in a landscape video or
scenery video the pinpoint metering can get you a little bit off as a relates to
the exposure meter just because if it happens to be concentrating on a dark
space and a big scene you're not gonna get the right exposure meter and it can
really throw you off which can be frustrating in terms of the items on
page 4 like i.Dynamic and i.Resolution at least to keep all
of them off at all times on the last page I definitely keep stabilizer on I
also turned silent mode on because I think all the noises are annoying so
that's just my preference and then lastly I have the wind noise cancel it
which I actually had to standard I think I said it like this before I got the
micro muff which I've talked about in a previous video so I could probably
change this but the reality is I don't know that it's gonna make much of a
difference I mean the audio on the LX10 is actually pretty poor no matter what
because there's no audio input jack so anyway the LX10 is a great point and
shoot it has a lot of great features and those are the settings that I use for
video on a day to day basis I actually got a special ND filter and windscreen
for mine which makes my vlogging experience that much better I did a
video on that before and I'll link it right up here if you guys like this
