In today's video we're going to talk about transcribing your video to text.
So stay tuned!
If you haven't done so already.

You may be wondering why to transcribe your video to text.
There are several really good reasons to do this.
The first one would be to get more eyes on your content.
A lot of people watching on their phones, are watching at work
or some place that they can't have the sound on,
Are more likely to watch your video.
If you have closed caption below that they can read.
Another good reason for transcribing your video,
is if you want to repurpose the content. Say, on a blog or on social media.
There are a lot of ways that you can transcribe your video.
I'm gonna go through several different services.
From paid to free.
But before I do, let me give you a couple tips.
Transcription works best with a clear audio.
So if you want to add music to your video,
add it after you have it transcribed.
It also works best if you can use a microphone that will dull some of the background noise,
so that that does not come across.
There are several different kinds of services you can use.
They range from paid and done by human,
To doing it all by yourself.
And I'm going to go through each of these and tell you the pros and cons of each one.
The first one is paid done by human.
The pro in this is high accuracy.
A lot of times if you hire a company to do it, they're going to give you a guarantee.
They'll give you your choice of file type.
Whether you want it as an SRT to add to your video,
As closed captioning,
or if you want it as a DOC file because you're going to use it in a blog post.
The con with paid by human is the cost and the wait time.
It's going to cost a bit more for the accuracy.
And the wait time is going to be considerable because you have to get in queue, and wait for somebody to be able to type it up.
The nice thing about this is if you have some background noise and or you have an accent,
this is probably the best option for you.
The first company I'm going to mention for this is TranscribeMe.
TranscribeMe.com
is a great service for getting all kinds of transcription.
You just upload your video or upload a link to your video,
and they will take care of it for you.
Another good company that's really popular is Rev.com
Rev.com has simple pricing
and is the same with TranscribedMe.
You upload a video or an audio.
Or you give a link to your video.
And a real person will transcribe that video.
Now the next section here is paid by AI.
There are some companies that do transcription,
but it's done by an AI instead of a real person.
The pros with that is it's faster.
If you're in a hurry, you're going to get your file back faster.
And also, it's going to have a lower cost than the one transcribed by human.
The cons...
Is this is less accurate.
And sometimes it has trouble with accents or if there's heavy background noise.
A good site for this is Temi.
Temi is a speech-to-text transcription in five minutes.
It's speech recognition software and it's only ten cents a minute.
So you just upload your audio or video,
And let them take it away.
And it doesn't take long and this is one of the better ones.
Another option is spit SPEXT.
S P E X T .co
Again this is an AI.
And their pricing structure has several different levels, so you'll have to look through that and see what works best for you.
They have the common output of .SRT.
The .SRT is what you would need for closed captioning.
And .doc
And the .doc is what you would use if you wanted to use it as a blog post or on social media.
They also do audio editing if you need
leveling, noise reduction,
or other audio features.
The next way we're going to talk about is free by AI.
These will cost you nothing.
The pro is it's free.
The con,
is the accuracy is going to be a little lower.
So you're going to need to do some corrections.
So it's going to take you a little bit more time.
The first one I'm going to mention here of course is YouTube transcription service.
Let me show you how to get into that.
You go to your YouTube channel
Go into creator studio
You pick the video that you want transcribed
And then over here is the subtitles closed caption
Click on that.
And when you upload a video to YouTube,
it will automatically come up with a version.
I've heard that this can take up to 12 hours,
but I usually get mine back within an hour or two.
You can go ahead and use it as is.
But what I like to do,
is click up here,
add new subtitle.
In the automated version you'll actually find no capitalization, punctuation
and some misspelled words. Especially when talking about
particular products or specific names.
But if you wait till this one is already generated,
and then create a new one,
It'll put the auto-generated one in there and you can go through and just correct it yourself through here.
This can be time-consuming depending on the length of your video.
Generally, my videos are around 10 minutes. So it doesn't take me too long to go through them.
Another way you can transcribe a video for free is using Google Docs.
Now to do this, you need both Google Docs on your mobile device,
and on a computer.
I've tried doing this both ways. Whether playing the video on the computer or playing the video on the phone.
And I actually found that my mobile device has better listening.
So what I will do is I will load up a video I want to play.
I will go into Google Docs on my phone.
And then I will just hold my phone up in front of the video that's playing.
And it's very highly accurate.
This won't save as an SRT file, that's one of the downfalls of that.
But if you just plan on using it for a blog post or social media that works just fine.
Now the last way I'm going to mention
is very time consuming but there are some benefits to it.
And that's adding the subtitles directly to your video.
You can do this in DaVinci Resolve. Let me show you how that works.
Now this is a video I did a while back.
All I would need to do to add the subtitles
Is go over here
Right click and hit add subtitle track.
And once you add the subtitle track,
you go to where you want the subtitle, right click,
And hit add subtitle.
Now I can take and stretch this out during that entire time where there's voice.
You can go ahead and set up a track style, so that you can pick the font,
your font face, the color and the size that you want to go across.
And this will be good for the entire video.
And then you can go in and compose and write in exactly what you want to go across the screen.
Listen to what's being said,
And then type it in.
Now I put up several of them here so that you could check them out.
Let me play through this and show what it looks like.
Now if you click on one of these, you can check out the timestamps. It automatically timestamps it for you.
So when you're ready to render your video you go over to deliver.
You scroll down,
and check subtitle settings,
export subtitle,
either as a separate file.
It gives you the option of .srt or .webvtt
Or
You could have it burned into the video itself.
Or as embedded captions.
So it gives you the option to
burn it directly to your video. So that no matter what platform it's on,
It'll have the closed captions already.
That means that you could apply these to an Instagram video.
You can apply these to a LinkedIn video.
You don't have to have the option of closed caption.
I hope today's video was helpful.
