Hi I'm Amy Smith and I'm really excited today to let you know that I'm putting my
hand up to run for preselection for the Queensland senate, I got involved in the union movement
and the Labor Party during the work choices campaign in 2007. I saw what John Howard was
doing to workers and I was outraged, ever since then I have been an active member of
my union and I have worked in and out of government. Since I have been Assistant State Secretary
of the CPSU in Queensland and Secretary of the QCU up here in Townsville I've had the
best time, spending time with locals across regional Queensland hearing what matters most
to them and fighting for their rights at work. I think that regional Queensland and the
north need a Senator we need someone who's going to stand alongside rank and file members
no matter where they live, we need someone who's going to stand up for union rights,
who is going to be effective on the ground with the experience and I'm really excited
to have a chat to you about why I think I'm the best person for the job. Pre-selection
campaigns can be a bit crazy I'm really excited about the democratic process we're going
through and I'm looking forward to having a chat to you soon. Watch this space.
