Hi and welcome to Copthorne News. My name is Isaa and this is my partner Unaisah.
Today's critical issue is about Copthorne Primary School extending the school day from 3pm till 4pm.
Let's hear more from our local reporters Haris and Amma.
This issue has been widely spoken about and has struck the hearts of the pupils
and the staff at Copthorne, with the majority in agreement.
However, extending the day could be a big risk and controversial.
Some pupils and parents disagree, saying the school day is long enough
and children need more leisure time at home with family.
Back to you in the studio!
Hmm how interesting.
Let's head over to the House of Lords to hear more from the experts.
Over to you, experts.
Here we have Hansallah, a member of the Lords
who has been debating the issue in the Houses of Parliament.
I think it is a fantastic idea to stay till 4pm so children benefit from more education.
Not only in the core subjects like English and maths, but more creative subjects like art and cooking.
That's all we have for today, bye!
Let's see more from MPs in their surgeries.
What do you think you're doing? (laughing)
Hi, I'm with Mr Khan the MP for Little Houghton.
Mr Khan, will this issue affect every school?
Yes, it will affect England, Wales and Scotland.
(Sound of clapping)
What are the benefits for pupils?
Pupils will get more education and they will show their social skills.
Back to the studio.
We interrupt this broadcast for a live update from Parliament TV.
Speaker of the House and my honourable friends,
I am here today to discuss an issue which has been highlighted by
pupils at a school in my constituency.
Sadly, children in our schools do not always have time for exciting lessons
because they are leaving school at 3pm. Children at Copthorne
have therefore proposed that the school day should extend to 4pm.
(Sound of MPs cheering)
Extending the school day would allow schools to provide longer holidays
and cut down on absences during term time. I urge the Government
and my honourable friends to act upon this issue.
What is more important than our nation's children? (Sound of MPs cheering)
Breaking news!
We're about to hear if the Bill has been passed or not.
How much does it cost?
Not that kind of Bill!
Calm down man. Chill out.
Good morning, and thank you all for attending.
We are delighted by the Government's announcement
which will allow us to extend our school day to 4 pm.
This will mean we can fit more exciting lessons into our day,
learn more, and avoid going on holiday during term time.
Pupils, parents and staff are amazed by the success of our campaign.
It just goes to show that a few people are able to make an enormous difference
to the lives of pupils across our country.
Thank you for coming and we ask you to celebrate this announcement
at schools and across the country.
(Sound of reporters loudly asking questions all at once)
No more questions, no more questions.
Thank you for listening to Copthorne News.
(Musical outro)
