Waching daily Nov 3 2017

You can fight a war with drones

You can fight a war with loans

You can fight a war with gas

or cans of paint

But don't you realize

that the game is compromised

if you think that this is something

that it ain't

We got images of murder

that don't manage to disturb

An international order

that is bordering absurd

And no one gets the freedom

they were told that they deserve

til they realize

that freedom's not a noun

IT'S A VERB

FREEDOM IS A VERB

SOMETHING NEVER FINISHED

NEVER DONE

IT'S SOMETHING YOU MUST MAKE

IT'S SOMETHING YOU MUST TAKE

IT'S SOMETHING YOU MUST

CONSTANTLY BECOME

This weekend revolution

It's a radical inclusion

It's a holiday of popular revolt

It's the social interaction

of inconsequential actions

using faces to replace

a silent vote

But lower pay and higher rent's

another kind of violence

the violence of silence

and of greed

It's the violence of feeling

your irrelevance revealing

every way in which

you never will be freed

IT'S A VERB

AN ACTION AND AN URGE

AS FERTILE AS THE BARREL OF A GUN

IT HAPPENS OUT OF NEED

IT'S A FIRE AND A SEED

ITS TERRIBLE POTENTIAL

HAS BEGUN

They'll tell you that your liberty

is constantly in jeopardy

It's something you must loyally defend

But isn't it demeaning

when your well-intended meanings

mean your means will have to

justify your ends?

So improvise a barricade

of furniture cascading

It's a carnival of helmets in the flood

For the bottles can be filled

with either gasoline or lager

or detergent that'll

wash away your blood

IT'S A VERB

FREEDOM IS A VERB

SOMETHING NEVER FINISHED

NEVER DONE

IT'S SOMETHING YOU CAN FAKE

AND IT'S SOMETHING THAT'LL BREAK

IF IT AIN'T SOMETHING

THAT YOU CONSTANTLY BECOME

IT'S A VERB

AN ACTION AND AN URGE

AS FERTILE AS THE BARREL OF A GUN

IT HAPPENS OUT OF NEED

IT'S A FIRE AND A SEED

ITS TERRIBLE POTENTIAL HAS BEGUN

TED Talk Analysis Video Performance - Duration: 2:53.

Good evening classmates.

The TED talk presentation I chose is 'Why schools should start later for teens'.

The host speaker is a mom of a teenage boy and a scientist.

Her name is Wendy Troxel.

Being a mom and a scientist I believe make her very qualified to speak on the topic 'Why

schools should start later for teens'.

I thought her speech was very good because it grabbed my attention quickly and it kept

me intrigued throughout her speech.

There were two components that I did find very intriguing.

The first one being, chronic sleep deprivation.

This can be what is actually contributing to the teenagers unpleasant characteristics.

Characteristics such as, moodiness, laziness, irritability, and depression.

Another component that I found interesting is the fact that Wendy Troxel called this

an epidemic because teenagers are missing vital hours of sleep.

She says "this is an epidemic due to public policy."

Public policy being that schools are starting 7:30 am or earlier.

The speaker had a very good verbal delivery with her pronunciation, volume, rhythm and

tone.

The physical delivery was good as well.

She was dressed very professionally, great posture and she seemed very comfortable in

front of an audience.

I do think that the speaker could have utilized the triangle format that we used in class.

She had a big stage and barely moved, besides using her hands a lot when speaking.

I think she should have used visual aids because it could have been more beneficial to show

a communities statistics before and after the time change in the communities school

district, rather than only speaking about it.

The attention grabber was comical and very relatable to probably almost every parent

in her audience.

However, the introduction lacked what points she would be speaking on, nor did she state

her topic in her speech.

Even without the body of points clearly stated, her speech flowed nicely and was very easy

to follow.

I do believe her conclusion did come back around to the attention grabber and was effective

for the audience in realizing the effectiveness of an extra hour of sleep for teenagers.

Thank you!
