Hi, my name is Sherine Zhang.

And this is the video resume for my graduate school application.

So first of all, I want to talk a little bit about myself.

I grew up in a beautiful city in China, finished my elementary school and middle school there,

and moved to Vancouver Canada for high school.

Right now I'm studying Computer Sciences at University of Wisconsin – Madison.

This is my third year.

Currently I have a 3.99 GPA, 4.0 GPA in the major.

Some of the relevant courses I have taken include data structure, machine organization,

computer engineering, artificial intelligence, and some other high-level mathematics and

statistics courses.

I'm hard-working, persistent, and passionate, not only in the coursework, but also in the

research that I'm doing.

My research interest lies in database and human robot or human computer interactions.

One research project that I'm currently leading is in the HCI lab, supervised by professor

Bilge Mutlu.

We look into the cognitive states and behaviors of a driver who is either interacting with

semi-autonomous vehicles or autonomous vehicles.

We use a modeling tool called Petri Net to build a basic and flexible framework where

we can just plug in any environment we want, and the policies and parameters will be automatically

generated for us.

We could then use this model to test whether or not our prediction is accurate.

Another research project that I'm involved in is on database cleaning.

We use probabilistic inferences and some deep learning techniques to clean the input database

by removing any erroneous dataset we might have.

Both projects give me enormous exposure to research, what it really is and how a group

of people collaborate to work towards a certain academic goal.

They also strengthened my problem-solving skills, team work and communication skills,

as well as leadership skills.

I hope that I could apply those skills and knowledge into my future work, and make contributions

to your university as well as to the society.

Hello everyone, this time I will talk about sales promotion.

This topic is in chapter 14.

Before start, let's see what does sales promotion refer to.

Sales promotion refers to any paid consumer or trade communication program of limited

duration that adds tangible value to a product or brand.

Let's see what makes the use of sales promotion so effective and popular.

The basic concept of sales promotion is making discount for consumers, and consumers like

to have discount when they buy something.

So companies are trying to attract consumers in many different types of sales promotion.

The reason why companies use different types of sales promotion is to create differentiation,

create new contents and opportunities, and grow revenue.

Then what kinds of sales promotion are there?

Let's see together.

There are 4 different types of sales promotions which are sampling, couponing, personal selling

and strategic or consultative selling.

Before getting into the details, we need to consider the targets, either global or local.

There might be different perceptions of particular promotions tool and local regulations may

rule out use of a particular promotion in certain countries.

Firstly, sampling is consumers can get opportunity to try products at no cost.

So consumers can try for free but normally the size or the amount of sample is small.

Secondly, couponing is printed certificates entitle the bearer to a price reduction or

some other special consideration for purchasing a particular product.

So the couponing offers a discount or can be exchanged with particular product.

Thirdly, personal selling is person to person communication between a company representative

and a prospective buyer.

It focuses on informing and persuading buyer and also it can build relationship as a long

term.

However, there are some potential risks which are political risk, regulatory hurdles, currency

fluctuation and market unknown.

Lastly, strategic or consultative selling consist of 5 steps, each step contains 3 prescriptions

that can serve as checklist for sales personnel.

The first step is personal selling philosophy which means commitment to the marketing concept

and a willingness to adopt the role of problem solver or partner.

Next is relationship strategy.

It is game plan for establishing and maintaining high-quality relationships with prospects

or customers.

Then product strategy is plan that can assist the sales representative in selecting and

positioning products to satisfy customer needs.

The following is customer strategy.

It is plan that ensures that the sales professional will be maximally responsive to customer needs.

The last is presentation strategy that consists of setting objectives for each sales call

and establishing a presentation plan to meet those objectives.
