2017 YPC Gala Video - Duration: 4:26.Giving you an opportunity to get the full story from the people who tell it best.
This is Mediacom Newsleaders.
Hello, I'm Elizabeth Klinge with Mediacom Newsleaders.
We're talking with Maggie Boesen right now.
She's the Marketing Chair with Young Professionals Connection.
Maggie, great to see you.
You too, thank you.
For people who aren't exactly familiar with Young Professionals Connection is all about,
just tell us a little bit about what it is.
Sure, so the Young Professionals Connection is an entity of the Greater Des Moines Partnership.
And really our sole mission is to create an environment that attracts and retains young
professionals to the Greater Des Moines area.
And you have a great event coming up that is sort of a wonderful way to end the year
in December, the annual Gala.
Tell us about what this will involve.
Sure, so our annual YPC Gala is taking place on Saturday, December 2nd at the newly renovated
Tea Room.
And so really, it's an opportunity for us to look back on 2017 and our successes.
And then look to the future of the organization.
We have a networking hour, dinner, music from DJ 8-10, and Isiah Knox, the Associate Director
of Urban Dreams as our keynote speaker.
This is open to anyone to attend or just members?
Yes, it's open to members and non-members of all ages.
Is it something that you recommend getting tickets for ahead of time?
Reserving your seat?
Yes.
Absolutely, so tickets are to be purchased ahead of time.
It's $50 for YPC members and $75 for non-members.
And really, so that's actually a great opportunity for people to join YPC right now.
Our annual membership costs $25, so if people were to join YPC beforehand, and then buy
their YPC Gala ticket, it's going to be the same price as a non-member ticket.
So, now is the time to sign up to be a YPC member.
And then that will go for a full year?
Yep, you get the perks; all of the events.
You have so many events throughout the year, right?
Yep, our events range from athletics, social, charitable, civic, so we're all over the board.
Anyone can get involved and find something that they really enjoy.
What's the best way for people to register then and get tickets to the event?
The best way to register is to go our website, ypcDSM.com.
And they need to register before November 14th for the event.
Before November 14th, so mark your calendars then.
So tell us about then how you originally got involved, because people may be a little bit
hesitant to reach out and dip their toes in an organization like this.
What would you recommend?
That's a great question.
So, I got involved about three or four years ago out of college looking for a way to get
involved in my community.
And there's no better time to get involved than now so everyone has an opportunity to
find something that they enjoy within the organization and be as involved as they would
like.
So I really enjoy promoting the events for YPC.
And there's other people that really enjoy being involved in the cultural side of it.
Or the civic committee.
Things like that.
So there's something for everyone.
And a certain time commitment that's required?
As a member it's full-range.
Memberships are one year or two year.
One year is $25 and two years is $40.
So depending on how committed you want to be, I would recommend the two year because
it is a little bit of a discount if you think that you'll be involved for that time frame.
And people often ask about the name, young professionals, what age does that mean?
Yeah, that's a great question because we get asked that a lot.
There is no age requirement; it's as young as you feel.
That's wonderful.
Give us the website again and the dates and times for the Gala.
Yes, the website to get tickets is ypcDSM.com.
The Gala is Saturday, December 2nd 6-9 p.m. at the Tea Room.
And the deadline to register?
November 14th.
November 14th, coming up fast.
We sure appreciate your time coming in.
Thank you.
