Top 10 Best Selling Video Games Hey guys!
Welcome back to Top 10 Gaming, I'm Ron McKenzie-Lefurgey.
Over the years, video games have become incredibly ingrained in our culture.
We've spent billions of dollars on gaming since Bertie the Brain was introduced in 1950.
But some games have made significantly more money than others, sometimes because they're
incredibly deep, and sometimes because they've been around for so damn long.
It should be noted that I'll just be looking at sales of the game, so Free to Play games
like League of Legends won't be on this list!
So get ready, here are the Top 10 Best Selling Video Games of All Time!
Number 10: The Elder Scrolls 5: Skyrim.
Now, this was HUGE and really amazing.
It was released in 2011 with 30 million copies sold over several platforms.
Skyrim sold more copies than any other Bethesda game!
The map was enormous, the dragons and shouts were a really cool new mechanic, and the graphics
were just glorious, especially played heavily modded on a powerful computer.
I can't tell you how much time I've spent wandering Skyrim.
But Steam can.
And Steam says it's 163 hours.
Worth it.
As a side note, if you enjoy Skyrim, check out the Enderall Mod.
It's a lot of fun and changes a lot of the mechanics from the original, I really like
it.
Number 9: New Super Mario Bros DS.
Released in 2006, it sold 30.79 million copies worldwide.
This was a great game with mostly positive reviews.
It was essentially an updated version of the classic Mario Bros, and in my opinion it really
kept the classic feel.
Some people found it to be lazy and too much like previous games, but that was the beauty
of it to me!
I love me some side-scrolling plumbers, and New Super Mario Bros DS did not disappoint.
Number 8: Wii Sports: Resort.
Resort was released in 2009, selling 30.8 million copies!
After the success of the original Wii Sports, Nintendo came out with a new game with more
sports and better technology.
When Resort came out with more games and better motion capture, people jumped on the fun train.
Next stop: Excitement.
That wasn't corny, you're corny, shut up.
Number 7: Pokemon Red/Blue/Green.
This one might be a bit of a cheat since technically it's 3 different games, but let's be real.
It's the same game.
It counts.
The original Pokemon game was released in 1996 in Japan, and '98 in North America.
And '99 in Europe but nobody cares about Europe.
"Oh, English is my second language and I still speak it better than you."
Stop making me feel inadequate!
These first games have since sold roughly 31.37 million copies worldwide.
That's pretty freaking impressive, but not unwarranted; these games were amazing.
Even to this day, there's nothing quite like busting out Pokemon Blue.
It definitely has a lot of significance to me, I still remember saving up money with
my brother for ages to buy a game boy and Pokemon, but it was totally worth it.
So fun.
Number 6: Mario Kart Wii.
Released in 2008, and selling 32.8 million copies, Mario Kart Wii brought the new motion
technology to Mario Kart and it was… pretty great.
There will always be a place in my heart for Mario Kart 64 and the best track ever, Koopa
Troopa Beach, but Mario Kart Wii was just awesome.
More levels, more characters, and variations of cars for each racer, Mario Kart Wii made
some great improvements to an already awesome game.
I wasn't a fan of the bikes though, it isn't Mario Bikes; it's Mario Kart!
Get it together, Nintendo.
Number 5: Super Mario Bros for NES.
Released way back in 1985, Super Mario Bros sold 40.24 million copies.
While it had a bit of an advantage over Modern games since there were a lot fewer games to
choose from, this was a game-changer.
Honestly, even playing it today is a blast.
It's simple, sure, but it absolutely holds up, even against games that are significantly
more progressed, technologically.
Speaking of games that have progressed…
Number 4: GTA 5.
Hoo boy.
This one was big.
Released in 2013, selling a whopping 75 million copies, GTA 5 is the most popular game in
the franchise, and for good reason!
The characters are interesting, funny, and well written, the story is quite engaging,
and the missions are actually quite varied, especially compared to some of the previous
games.
What really does it for me, though, is the mini games.
There's a golf mini game, which is nothing new to video games, but you aren't just
doing the shots.
You can walk up, pay your green fees, get in your cart, drive to the first hole, shoot,
get back in your cart, drive to your ball, shoot, ahhhh.
Or, you know, you can take the cart off sweet jumps.
Either way, I've probably spent more time playing golf in GTA 5 than I have played…
most other games.
Number 3: Wii Sports.
The OG.
Wii Sports came out in 2006, and has since sold over 82 million copies worldwide.
This was so cool when it first came out, it was really my first experience with motion
capture games other than those gun games you play in arcades, and it was really fun.
It's perfect for parties; the games are short, easy, and fun.
Plus I was the king of tenis.
No big deal.
It's a huge deal.
Number 2: Coming in at number 2, Minecraft was released in 2009 and sold 122 million
copies.
This was pretty much all I heard about for like 3 years, and has remained quite popular
even to this day!
If you enjoy exploring, crafting, and building cool structures and mazes, you'll probably
love Minecraft.
It's even brought about a huge YouTube community dedicated to all things Minecraft.
It's a great game to watch, I love watching people be creative and in Minecraft, creativity
is the name of the game.
Well, I guess Minecraft is technically the name of the game.
But it involves creativity.
It's an expression okay?
Sheesh.
Number 1: Tetris.
This probably doesn't come as much of a surprise to you since pretty much everyone
has played tetris at some point.
Originally released in 1984, Tetris can be found on just about every system imaginable.
That's part of why it has sold… wait for it, 495 million copies.
Tetris is just a classic, and it's fun for everyone!
The only problem is when I start playing too much Tetris, I start playing it in my head
every time I close my eyes.
I'll be trying to sleep while worrying about when I'll get a frickin straight block.
Damn you Tetris friends!
Side note, the same thing happens when I've played too much Illaoi in League of Legends.
I just start picturing tentacles everywhere.
It's scary.
That's it for today!
Hope you guys enjoyed!

Diablo 3.
Building off the incredible success of Diablo 2, Diablo 3 was released in 2012 boasting
30 million copies sold over multiple platforms!
It was met with mixed reviews, personally I didn't really get into Diablo 3, but I
hear it got a lot better with post-release patches.
That said, I recently re-downloaded Diablo 2 and it tooootally holds up.
If you haven't played it for a while, give it another chance, and you can feel the wrath
of my skeletons.
Yeah, summoning's the best.
Yes, it is.
Yes it is yes it is yes it-
