Hi, I'm Hannah. I'm a student here at
Hawkeye Community College. I'm here to
help you take the next steps in your
college career. Like you, I applied and I
was really excited to start college. I
couldn't wait to get my acceptance
letter and finally begin my program, but
when I got my letter it said I wouldn't
be able to start my program right away.
For me it was because I didn't meet my
admissions requirements but for other
students it might be because their program
was full. I thought it meant I couldn't
start college. Guess what? It all worked
out in the end, and I was able to start
classes in the next term. Here's what I
did and you can do the same thing. First
I reviewed the steps to meet program admission
requirements that came with my
letter. It said I had choices and in my
case, I decided to become a pre-student.
That allowed me to meet admission
requirements and get a start on my
general education classes.Then I
contacted the admissions office and told
them my plans. They added a
pre-program to my status and told me
to watch for an e-mail about registration.
When I got the email I learned how to
sign up for a mandatory orientation and
registration session, which everyone
calls a MORE session. I was a pre-student
for a semester and took care of both
admission requirements and a couple of
my gen-ed classes. After that semester I
contacted admissions again, and they got
me accepted to my program. So what does
all that mean for you? It means you still
have choices and your goals are still in
reach. Even if your letter says you can't
start your program right away, you can
still start classes. Admissions can help
you decide if that's right for you. To
learn more just contact admissions at

It worked for me and it can work
for you too.
you
