TOP 10 CANCELLED VIDEO GAMES

I wonder if there's anything more dilapidating then seeing a trailer for a game, getting

incredibly stoked for it, then finding out it's production has been cancelled.

Well, I'm sure there is, but that sentiment is up there in the list of terrible life occurrences.

So to comfort ourselves - or rub salt in the wound, rather - we're counting down our

top 10 picks for cancelled video games.

Let's jump right in.

10 Six Days in Fallujah A historical third person shooter, SDIF followed

a squad of US marines from the 3rd battalion, 1st marines who were a part of the second

battle of fallujah.

Which, as you guessed it, took place over six days.

The game received quite a bit of controversy, being a sensitive subject at the time and

based on very real and relatively recent events.

Which is what led Konami to drop the project, something they announced in April 2009.

9 LMNO LMNO (which was the game's working title)

was a project that Steven Spielberg was attached to, developed by EA.

The game was described as, I quote, "a mix of first person parkour movement with adventure

and role playing elements and escape focused gameplay, all involving the players relationship

with an alien looking character named Eve."

Despite ceasing work on this game, the partnership between EA and Spielberg did give us Boom

Blox.

But it would've been nice to see what he could have done with much more of a narrative

to play with.

8 B.C An action adventure game that was being developed

by Intrepid, BC was a game that took place during prehistoric times on a single continent.

You control a tribe that has to evolve and migrate in order to rise to the top of the

food chain.

It even featured dinosaurs and the dodo.

It was canceled in 2004 for unknown reasons, but some footage was released back in 2015.

7 StarCraft: Ghost Initially announced in 2002, work on this

Gamecube StarCraft game came to a halt in 2004 before officially being cancelled (or

rather being put on indefinite hold) in 2006 by Blizzard Entertainment.

The game was suppose to be a third person shooter, with the goal of giving players a

more initiate experience of the starcraft universe, and would have been set four years

after StarCraft Brood War.

While the game was cancelled, the protagonist of the game, Nova, did get a novel, titled

StarCraft ghost: Nova.

How apt.

6 Prey 2 Before the newest Prey game came out in 2017,

the sequel to the original 2006 Prey was slated to come out in the early 2010's.

A trailer was shown at E3 and people we hyped, but despite the popularity it garnered, Bethesda

began to cut funding because they had their doubts about developer, Human Head.

It apparently didn't mean their quality standards.

And this wasn't something taken very well by the team at Human Head.

One of the former employees tweeted out that the game was a full game, despite it being

a small team, and the cancellation was petty and political.

5 Star Wars 1313 Imagined as a more gritty mature Star Wars

game, Star Wars 1313 was cancelled when Disney purchased Lucasfilm, which made several ripples

in the Star Wars canon, aside from just the cancellation of this game.

Disney had ceased internal development at LucasArts and laid off most of it's staff,

inevitably shutting down a bunch of projects including the game.

Yet it was still a disappointment to many fans, since the prospect of following a young

Boba Fett navigating an underground area of Coruscant called Level 1313 seemed like one

hell of a good concept.

4 Scalebound An Xbox One exclusive, Scalebound was suppose

to be an action RPG that allowed you to play as a character who had a symbiotic relationship

with a dragon.

Seems dope, right?

The game was set to release in 2016, but the release date was pushed back to 2017, and

after "careful deliberation" microsoft studios announced it had decided to axe further

production on the game.

Not many other details are known about the reasons for cancellation, but the game had

made the rounds at trade shows and conventions, with fans excited based off of the gameplay

made available.

3 Fallout Online Back in 2006, Interplay and Masthead Studios,

along with the two creators of the original Fallout Chris Taylor and Mark O'Green, were

set to make a Fallout MMO game.

Enter the legal dispute, since Bethesda had purchased the rights to the Fallout IP.

Despite being confirmed in development in 2009, it was officially cancelled in 2012

after a long legal battle.

Good news though, Bethesda eventually got the rights back to develop an MMO for the

series in an out of court settlement.

So fingers crossed that this won't be the last we hear of a Fallout MMO.

2 Silent Hills - aka PT Short for Playable Teaser, PT was a teaser

for the game Silent Hills, which was inevitably cancelled.

A first person shooter that received rave reviews during it's short lived release

on the playstation store, the game was directed and designed by Hideo Kojima and Guillermo

Del Toro, and fans consider it to be one of the best horror games ever crafted despite

its short life span.

1 Agent If you're like me, it doesn't take much

to get you all riled up about a Rockstar Game.

So get ready for some serious disappointed if you've never heard about Agent.

So Agent was a game that was suppose to be Rockstar's next great franchise.

It took place during the Cold War and dealt with, I quote, "the world of counter intelligence,

espionage and political assassinations."

The development of the game was even overseen by rockstar Games founders Dan and Sam Houser.

From there on out, there were a lot of conflicting statements from Take Two Interactive, Sony

and Rockstar about the progress of the game, and while it's yet to be confirmed as officially

abandoned, the trademarks Take Two Interactive had registered were dropped on August 26 2013.

There we have it friends!

Did we include a game that bummed you out when you heard it was cancelled?

Give us a shout in those comments below.

And let us know what other games you were anticipating that got cancelled and tore out

a piece of your heart.

But for now I'm Kelly Paoli for top 10 gaming and I'll catch you guys in the next one.
