Getting Started with Audio and Video for Learning - Duration: 3:30.[music playing]
Greetings! Phylise Banner here, Curator of the InSync Blended Learning Hub.
Welcome to this learning campaign focused on ways to engage our modern
learners through the use of video and audio elements. On this stretch of your
learning journey, we'll look at the benefits and challenges of implementing
these treatments, see how they can enhance the learning experience, and
explore how they can work together to enrich that modern blend. I highly
encourage you to start off by downloading the course map that provides
an overview of the learning assets and events we're hosting in this month in
this Hub campaign. After that I, recommend reading the blog post on hearing and
watching learning happen. I recently read a fantastic book by Todd Oppenheimer
called "The Flickering Mind: Saving Education from the False Promise of
Technology," which explores the impact of technology in education. The book
includes a great history of Thomas Edison and Henry Wise, who studied the
impact of films on learning. Yes, Edison predicted that the motion picture
was destined to revolutionize our education system. Do you think it did? We
consume so much media - Hey! You're watching this video right now. We watch
and listen to our TVs, radios, computers, phones, tablets, and wearable devices.
Media is all around us, and like I said in my blog post, high quality audio and
video are getting easier to produce every day. We aren't just listening and
watching on our smartphones, tablets, computers, wearables, and other devices. We are
creating, producing, and broadcasting from those same devices. Can we as designers,
developers, producers, facilitators, and managers of modern blended learning tap
into some of that time spent consuming media, and attract and retain the
attention of our learners? We invite you to review and download the featured
infographic to learn more about the different ways that videos can
better engage modern learners, and put aside a few minutes of your busy day to
check in to see how Donna the Designer, our instructional design superhero,
determines when to use audio and/or video to get her message across in her
modern blended learning campaigns. I'll be hosting our Modern Learning Lab, and
hope that you'll join me in a discussion of the challenges we face
when integrating video and audio elements into our modern blended
learning solutions. It's always great to hear about the successes and failures
that you've experienced with both of these treatments. How do audio and
video elements enhance the learning experience? How do we determine the
determine the best approach to audio and video, and the tools we can use for our
blended learning scenarios? These questions and more are at the top of my
mind, and I would love to hear your perspectives. If you can't attend the
Modern Learning Lab, I highly encourage you to share your thoughts and questions
with your colleagues in the Hub. And if you'd like to bring the conversation
back to your workplace, download and share this campaign's Conversation Card,
which focuses on selecting a strategy for casting and producing a video series
for a customer relationship-focused blended learning campaign. Have a great
journey, and let's learn together about how we can engage our learners through
audio and video see you online.

Pro Tips for Creating Audio and Video for Modern Learning - Duration: 2:02.[music plays]
Greetings! Phylise Banner here, Curator of InSync Blended Learning Hub. As we
continue on our learning journey here in the Hub, we consider more specific
aspects of video element design and production, including strategies for
working within different budget constraints. Our lessons and curated
resources will highlight what's working best for us, and showcase some of our
favorite tools, tips, and tricks. Start with the blog post on our
favorite video elements, and how we've worked with them throughout the years.
And then journey onto our infographic to learn more about different types of
video approaches and when you might use them within formal and informal learning
situations. Ever wonder how I make these videos? Well we've added a special
backlot tour of my video studio to the Hub, and I hope you pick up a tip or two
that you can use to create quality videos in your own workplace. Try your
hand at the self-paced interactive, "Using Video to Meet your Learning Outcomes" to
learn how to select the right type of learning objective that can be taught
using video. Yes, we're always coming back to those learning objectives. The heart
of our modern learning campaigns, our whitepaper for this campaign, builds on
the interactive by focusing on how to use video to meet the needs of our
modern learners in their moments of learning need. I hope you have time to
join us in the "On the Air" Modern Learning Makerspace, where we'll record
an actual podcast episode together. We'll go over the interview process, explore
podcast recording options, and highlight some of our most useful post-production
tips and tricks. I encourage you to share your comments on any of our learning
assets here in the Hub. Specifically I'd love to hear your perspective on things
you think can make or break the learning potential of a video asset. Enjoy the
learning landscape, and I'll see you online!

Improving Blended Learning with Audio and Video - Duration: 2:16.[music plays]
Greetings! Phylise Banner here, Curator of the InSync Blended Learning Hub. As we
progress along our learning journey here in the Hub, we'll dive deeper into the
value of video and audio learning assets, and explore strategies to engage our
learners through storytelling. I encourage you to start off by reading
the blog post on learner engagement. We've been telling stories for millennia,
and storytelling is an important part of human interaction. We need to create
narratives that compel our learners to pay attention and to learn. We can use
audio and video to tell our stories. We have a lot of resources for you to
explore here, including a new infographic on how storytelling can enhance your
audio and video learning resources, and a job aid on audio production tips and
tricks. There's also a new installment in our Effective Practice Scorecard Series.
We're looking at effective practices related to video. Remember - these
scorecards are designed to help you manage the way effective practices are
being observed and implemented within your blended learning design, development,
and delivery solutions. Also, we have a new podcast available for you to listen
to where I interview Laura Goodrich, Global Workforce Innovator, about her
work in cinematic microlearning. Listen in and you'll learn more about the power
of stories in our blended learning solutions. In our Mastery Workshop, we'll
explore methods and approaches for using storytelling to guide your learners
through blended learning video elements. I highly recommend you attend the
workshop. It'll be led by InSync team members Karen Rex and Tom Campbell, and
they both have some fantastic stories. We'd love to hear from you ,so take some
time to share what you've learned here in the Hub, on the job, or in your
Personal Learning Network. Or share a resource that other learners in the Hub
can use as they progress on their learning journeys. Remember, you can
always bring the conversation back to your workplace by downloading and
sharing the campaign card - the Conversation Card - in this month's
campaign. And please share the results of those conversations back here in the Hub.
Enjoy the journey and I'll see you online!
