Not Another "Makeup-Free" Video (Sorta) - Keeping it Real - Duration: 2:23.

My teammates and I have gotten into listening to Alicia Keys' new album.

And one day while playing her music I looked down on my phone and was surprised by

the cover art on her album.

There, Alisha poses for the camera looking raw, real, untouched, unfiltered, and unedited.

Alicia's bold desire to learn for herself where true confidence lies

when it comes to beauty inspired me to go one week without wearing makeup.

Day-to-day, I usually wear minimal makeup, and

when going out to meet people, giving a talk, or there's a special occasion, I won't hesitate in reaching for it.

Now, I'm not saying that makeup is bad!

I understand a woman's a deep desire to be beautiful.

But it's important to have the right approach to wearing it.

Sometimes, when we say, "No" to good things,

we are able to recognize our unhealthy attachments toward them.

As I look back on this "one-week makeup fast," I've already seen the ways that makeup

became the foundation in which I saw myself as beautiful. And I realized that without makeup,

I really struggled to recognize my own beauty.

Makeup should not be used to cover self-perceived flaws or as a crutch to make us feel pretty.

The purpose of makeup isn't to cover flaws,

but to enhance the beauty that is already present within every woman.

Every time I went out and felt tempted to put makeup on during my week

of being makeup free, I would ask myself this question, which inevitably led to deeper ones.

Do you feel like you're enough in this moment?

Do you feel smart, beautiful, capable, funny enough just as you are?

This was such a powerful exercise in setting down the masks that I often hide behind.

Going makeup-free taught me to see myself as the beauty that God made me to be

without all of the standards set by the culture that can often leave me feeling less than.

My challenge for you: Can you leave the house without makeup?

Do you cringe at the thought of going one day, three days without it?

If so, I challenge you to go without makeup for a short time

and be loved and received for who you are in the process.
