Hello there internet folks, Brian Smith with Liberty Park music once again we

have been talking about country music these days we're going to be continuing

to talk about country music this day we're going to talk about country rhythm

guitar

the first song that we're going to look at to give you some idea of how this

whole thing works is going to be Family Tradition by Hank Williams Jr. it's a

really really simple song it's just two bars of one, two bars of four, two bars of

five, two bars of one and you loop it and you play that for the entire song so

one one four four five five one one,

one four four five five one one over and

over song's in E, so it's gonna be E twice A twice B twice E twice and then loop

it now if you're pretty new to the whole guitar thing you may be inclined to just

strum all those chords

pretty dull though it's not going to really capture the spirit of the song

and if you have some more advanced chops there's an awful lot you can do to it

but it's still not gonna be quite the same there's a very very specific way to

go about looking at the old-style country stuff to make it sound authentic

you're gonna have to be a few different band members in order to do this style

justice you're gonna have to be the guitar player because you're the guitar

player you're also gonna have to kind of be the bass player and kind of be the

drummer there's a whole lot going on in this but it's not as difficult as it

might sound it sounds like a whole lot of stuff to deal with but there's really

just a few simple little parts that you have to work out so part of this deal is

in this old-time country the bass is almost always playing

the 1 and the 5 of

whatever chord it is that you're on and they just will do that for the entire

song we're also gonna do that it's just kind of a thing that you can do

as you play along with

the song you'll hear guitar players playing the bass parts quite a bit

so that's what that's gonna sound like just the bass part

now the chords we've got if we try and do that with the chords

we can play the bass note on the downbeat and then play the rest of the

chord on the upbeat

and you'll start to recognize that sounds an awful lot more country already

so here's the other thing we're also going to kind of be the drummer a little

bit instead of doing the bass note and then a nice long note on the rest of the

chord what we're gonna do is we're kind of gonna be we're gonna be a little bit

percussive we've got that nice slap back in our sound because we've dialed in our

country guitar tone in a previous video so what we're gonna do is we're gonna do

that first bass note and then we're gonna

play the rest of the chord but we're gonna do it

very percussively and short so it's gonna be like

like that, one more time

and then we're gonna move to the next one do the same thing

we're just muting that rest of

that chord with the fleshy part of our hand here whenever it comes to the

playing the full part of the chord part and then we'll go on the next and do the

same thing

so now we have a pretty good feel going on here

there's only one more thing to add we're still not a hundred percent there
