Flipgrid is a video discussion board.

You can respond to a discussion question by recording a short video response.

In order to use Flipgrid, you will need a webcam, with a microphone

and a good Internet connection. Your instructor or the discussion host

will provide you with a link to participate in a Flipgrid discussion,

like the one in this course website. The link will take you to the Flipgrid discussion.

You will see the discussion question to guide your video response.

You may also see a short video message from your instructor or other participants.

To record your own video, select the large plus sign symbol.

Flipgrid discussions have a time limit, indicated as minutes and seconds on the screen,

so take some time beforehand to think about what you want to say.

You may also re-record your message if needed.

Check to see that the correct camera

is selected in the dropdown menu above your picture.

You may also see a prompt for permission to access your camera.

You must grant access for Flipgrid to work properly.

The volume level indicator is also displayed to provide a guide for your speaking volume.

Select the recording button when you are ready. You will see a three second countdown.

Select the button again when you are finished. Select the "next" arrow to view your recording

or select the trash can button to start over and change your message.

When you are ready, select the arrow button.

Select the camera button to take a snapshot that will be used as a thumbnail for your video.

Your thumbnail photo is a picture that will display in the Flipgrid menu.

You can retake the photo until you are happy with it.

Select the arrow button again. Then complete your registration information.

Select "Submit my video" to finalize your message. You will see a confirmation message.

You will see your thumbnail displayed in the menu,

along with any messages from other participants.

To reply to another participant's video message, select their thumbnail,

then select the reply button to start recording your reply message.

You may also use the flipgrid app to participate with a mobile device.

Select the Flipgrid app icon on your home screen

and enter the code provided by the instructor or discussion host.
