Waching daily May 2 2017

The Trump administration was all set to get rid of a program called Let Girls Learn.

Now, this is an initiative created and championed by both Michelle and Barack Obama in 2015

that basically had the Peace Corps go around the world and help bolster the educational

opportunities and educational tools available for young women all over the world.

Donald Trump on Monday, his administration, sent a memo out to Peace Corps saying you're

no longer going to do this program.

It's over.

Now, that didn't necessarily mean that the Peace Corps was going to give up all of their

tools, I guess, to help young women across the world get better education, but it did

mean that they were no longer allowed to use the phrase, use the program, Let Girls Learn,

which is what Michelle and Barack Obama had created.

Basically, the Trump administration was trying to deliver a very big blow, a very big slap

in the face, to Michelle Obama.

She championed this program and they were taking it away, at least the name.

Now after a little bit of public backlash, the Trump administration said we have no idea

what you're talking about.

We never sent this memo to the Peace Corps that CNN displayed on their website, so yeah,

you did.

Nonetheless, they've said that no, no, no, we're not ending that program.

We're not changing the name.

We're going to keep doing it for now.

The bottom line is that the Trump administration, right now, is trying to spite Michelle Obama

and they're doing it at the expense of young women and girls all over the world.

They're trying to take away educational opportunities for people's daughters in developing countries,

girls who don't have those opportunities presented to them in their own countries without some

kind of outside help.

We're trying to give them the opportunity to become equal or better, to raise these

developing countries to where they're developed countries.

That's the point of these educational programs that Michelle Obama has been championing for

years.

On top of that, the Trump administration also announced that they're going to try to phase

out Michelle Obama's healthy school lunch initiative thing.

They haven't specifically said what nutritional guidelines they're going to go with, what

they're going to continue, but we don't want anything that Michelle Obama was involved

in to still be a thing today.

That's what's happening in Washington, D.C.

This isn't about spiting Barack Obama, it's about spiting Michelle Obama.

Why?

Because she was one of the most powerful and influential first women that we have ever

had in this country.

I know some people would say it was Hillary.

I firmly disagree.

Michelle Obama was out there.

She was a face of this administration, she was working on these programs, she was getting

kids active.

Letting them eat healthy lunches, teaching them about nutrition, being involved, and

occasionally being the cool, hip mom that everybody wanted growing up.

They're trying to take that away from her.

The right wing media did nothing for eight years other than insult and demean Michelle

Obama because they didn't want to eat healthy, they didn't want to get active and get their

asses off the couch.

That's why they hate her.

But more importantly, they hate her because she's a black woman.

A powerful, strong, intelligent, black woman.

That is why Donald Trump and his administration and every Republican in Washington, D.C.,

is trying to undermine everything that she accomplished in eight years as the First Lady

of the United States.

Meditation Kicks Depressions Ass For Good

By Dreamcatcher

Depression is more than just a bummer. Its a stone cold killer.

According to the World Health Organization (WHO) depression is now the leading cause

of disability in the world, affecting more than 350 million people worldwide. In fact,

1 in 20 people reported having an episode of depression the previous year in a recent

global WHO survey.

Even worse, depression is also the leading cause of suicide, which has now passed up

car accidents as the number one cause of accident related deaths in the United States, according

to the American Journal of Public Health.

Depression has also become a multi-billion dollar business for pharmaceutical companies

that produce antidepressant Selective Serotonin Reuptake Inhibitors (SSRIs) like Zoloft and

Prozac, medications that supposedly correct a chemical imbalance of neurotransmitters

like serotonin in the brains of depressed people. We have all seen the ads.

But a 2008 study at Florida State University found that there was no real scientific evidence

to support the chemical imbalance story, no matter how widespread.

Instead, researchers found that the theory has been misrepresented to the public

by corporations and the media and furthermore that much of the perceived efficacy of SSRI

antidepressant medications is due to the placebo effect.

In spite of this and other similar findings, antidepressants continue to be the most prescribed

drugs in the country.

More than 30 million Americans take them even though their therapeutic value is dubious

and they are linked to a growing number of serious side effects including, most recently,

birth defects in children of pregnant women who use them.

When it comes to the real cause of depression, many scientific studies have shown depressed

people actually have more asymmetry in their brain function than normal, especially between

the right and left frontal lobes; areas responsible for thought and emotional processing.

This asymmetry is even considered a marker, or a predictor, of depression in people and

is associated with depressive thought patterns like hopelessness.

And what causes this asymmetry? The answer is stress. Depression, like Post Traumatic

Stress Disorder (PTSD), is actually caused by brain damage from stress.

This explains why numerous aspects of modern life, including student loan debt, are linked

to depression the higher the debt, the higher the levels of stress and depression.

This opens up a can of worms about how society is structured, but it also begs the question:

If stress causes depression, can calmness reverse it?

Meditation, the age-old technique of focusing on the present in order to dwell in a state

of tranquility the ultimate stress buster.

Amazingly, a slew of recent studies have found that meditation does actually shape

the brain; it corrects damage from stress, enhances connectivity between the two lobes

and even promotes cell growth in key regions that are underdeveloped in depressed people,

like the hippocampus.

This means that meditators are changing the actual structure of their brains (see video

above), thereby rewiring their emotional reactions and thought patterns to a calmer baseline

on a physical level. This makes them more resilient to depression permanently.

Studies have shown conclusively that meditation is more effective than antidepressants in

preventing a relapse of depression, and a first-of-its-kind study last year found the

practice to be just as effective as one-on-one cognitive behavioral therapy.

But studies aside, the question remains: can meditation completely cure an illness that

is currently plaguing the entire world?

To find out, Resets Ocean Malandra contacted Spike Gillespie, author of the newly published

book: Sit. Stay. Heal. How Meditation Changed My Mind, Grew My Heart and Saved My Ass.

After suffering from depression off and on for much of her adult life, Spike decided

in December 2012 (in the midst of a particularly heavy relapse) to devote herself to meditating

every day for a year an endeavor she also recorded online by posting daily on her blog

Meditation Kicks Ass.

Three years of daily practice later, Spike remains depression free.

A resident of Austin, Texas, she now teaches a simple non-sectarian meditation technique

based on observing the breath, bringing the mind back to the present and the breath when

it wanders.

Spike says that anyone with a desire to try can get started practicing meditation to reap

its benefits. Her story is an inspiration and a testament to the healing powers of our

own mind.

Reset: Lets start at the beginning. I know you say you had bouts of depression since

your teenage years, but about what age was that? And when did you start practicing meditation?

Spike: I can only take an educated guess.

Based on the fact I started binge-drinking at fourteen, and also that adolescent body

chemistry changes began the year before, Im thinking my depression started very early

in my teen years.

I want to clarify that I cannot remember any protracted bouts of being leveled by depression

in my early teens, but also remember this was in the 70s, before we had the sort

of common usage terms for depression, self-medication, and treatment.

Plus I come from a very blue-collar background where you arent allowed to be depressed

you get your ass up and you go do what is expected of you.

My earliest recollection of meditation is these super mini-meditations like a minute

long we did in Taekwondo, which I studied for a couple of years in my mid-thirties.

That wet my appetite. I was on a road trip in the early aughts when I heard about a Vesak

Day celebration at a monastery outside of St. Louis.

I knew nothing of Vesak Day but was interested in learning about Buddhism. I went and heard

Thubten Chdrn speak and meditated with a very welcoming community and that was the

start of it.

Reset: Did you feel benefit from your early practices? If so, how?

Spike: Memory is a funny thing. Again, I dont have any keen memories of magical enlightenment.

And my practice now compared to the early days is a lot different and, I think, yields

more noticeable results.

But yes, I did benefit from early practices because for one thing, I think anyone who

sits will experience some benefit and also because the early sitting led to the sitting

I do now.

So it was foundation work, even if I had a hard time being consistent or sitting for

more than five minutes.

Those early sessions were, I think now, very much about learning what it means to set intent,

and over time my intent to dedicate myself to a serious practice took root.

Reset: Did you ever try anti-depressants? If so, what was the experience?

Spike: Yes. Very, very briefly I tried four or five different anti-depressants/ anti-anxiety

medications. The results were always, always disastrous. Prozac made me very speedy and

unable to concentrate and I lost a lot of weight.

I was also still a drinker then, which is a bad combination. Effexor I tried just once,

and immediately felt dizzy and a momentary fuzzy blindness and I wanted to puke.

Wellbutrin made me nuts. Zoloft gave me a horrific headache. Its important to factor

in that while I believe my reactions were mostly physical, there was likely some psychosomatic

stuff at play.

Reset: In researching this article I found that a lot of Buddhists and meditation practitioners

are reluctant to say that meditation cures depression, although in my opinion thats

exactly what the whole End of Suffering Bit in Buddhism is all about. Whats

your view?

Spike: I want to be careful here to speak only to my experience. And yes, in my experience,

I say with absolute certainty meditation cured my depression. Since I began a serious practice

at the end of 2012 I have not had a bout of depression.

That is astonishing. Well actually these days its not astonishing, it just is. But with

each year that passed and I am well into my third year now I was amazed. Its

like those signs you see at train yards: X Number of Days Since Our Last Accident.

Im going on a whole lot of days since I last fell into bed and could barely function

for weeks at a time.

I still have down days and last February my PTSD got triggered and I had a few very, very

hard days. But my practice saw me through that. I did not fall into the hole.

I cannot know the future, maybe one day depression will return. But it seems very unlikely to

me, barring some incredible external tragedy, that I will ever again suffer like I used

to.

Because now, even days when I suffer, I have a crystal clear awareness of impermanence

and I know my suffering will soon ease. It always does.

Reset: Science shows that meditators do effectively re-shape their brains, leading to lasting

change. But in terms of the subjective experience, can you tell me what the biggest noticeable

differences were in terms of your thought process and emotional reactions after your

now almost three years of daily practice?

Spike: I like to joke with my friends and meditation students that the biggest change

is that I have a tremendous awareness now of how messy I am, that the meditation hasnt

cured anything, simply made me extremely awake to my tics and traits and neuroses and

bad habits and how many bazillion miles away I am from even spotting the trailhead with

the sign that says, Enlightenment This Way.

The reality though, is that my awareness, and my awareness of my awareness, is a fantastic

tool.

So lets say I am on Facebook I have an extremely active wall and I am a very opinionated

person and people love to show up and argue with me sometimes. I am the absolute queen

of taking the bait.

I am a trolls online dream date. Im not just fascinated by the way certain people

feel a need to get in my face, but Im fascinated by my sometimes non-equanimity in response.

I dont always post a smartass reply but often I do. Still, I have an awareness in

my heart and mind that I am feeling angry or irritated by an offhand remark of a stranger.

This in turn leads me to step back internally and say, Hey, whats all that about?

Why are you focusing so much energy on this stupid remark when that person already forgot

making it?

When I use my awareness to examine my reactions, I can see:

Hey, this is flashing you back to being bossed around as a kid by older sisters and

an angry dad. You are reacting to the past. This defensiveness is life long and it causes

you suffering. Pay attention. Work on that.

In this way, I have become less impulsive, less fly-off-the-handle. This not only allows

me to be less of an asshole in the eyes of others (not that Im super worried about

what they think, but what I mean is I dont want to cause others to suffer), it also brings

me a growing calm that informs my life now. My definition of happiness is calmness.

Reset: I really like that definition; its the opposite of stress and depression. So

do you think meditation should be taught in school?

Spike: I like to say when I am king (because I will be a woman king) everyone is learning

martial arts and meditation. EVERYONE. It neednt be rooted in religious practice.

Mindful breathing for everyone. This past summer I led a couple of meditation camps

for kids.

I was beside myself with joy at how many of them showed up and already knew what meditation

was. I think if we included meditation in the curriculum it would help across the board

it would help with communication, concentration, compassion, all of it.

Reset: Beautiful. Ok, last question: What advice and resources would you share with

someone that is suffering from depression and wants to try meditation but is not sure

where to start?

Spike: I would say to a depressed person, Look, I totally get it. Depression is such

a beast. You feel like you cant even function so how are you going to meditate?

I suggest you just sit up in a chair, in your bed if you cant get out of bed,

or on a pillow on the floor if you want. Close your eyes.

Breathe in and breathe out and as you do just note to yourself silently I am breathing in,

I am breathing out. At first you might only be able to manage a few breaths or a minute.

Thats okay. You are not doing it wrong. You are trying, so you are doing it right.

- A Conclave.

- A final Conclave.

One champion per clan.

One death, instead of thousands.

And whoever wins, gets the bunker.

- The episode is called "Die All, Die Merrily"

which is taken from Shakespeare

because Ginsburg and McIntyre, Aaron and Wade,

who wrote the episode, are intellectuals.

- Accept this to do with your clan

and fight with honor as their champion.

- Get ready. It's a blood bath.

It's brutal.

Octavia has returned for the war,

as she said at the end of the previous episode.

- These warriors will fight until only one remains.

This final champion, alone, will tell us

which clan is meant to survive

in the crypt of Becca Pramheda

and which clans are meant to perish in Praimfaya.

She's up against the giants of

The war chiefs, and Roan, and others.

So she doesn't stand much of a chance.

- If I die, I die.

I still go down fighting.

Not gonna say who, but it's one of those episodes

that people will remember.

- May we meet again.

yPanel Material Override (#3) - Blender Addon - Duration: 4:03.

Welcome to the third part of yPanel addon video series.

In this video I'll explain about Material Override

Here are the hot links to quickly jump to the part you want to watch.

For the demo, I'm using a character model..

with already available diffuse, specular,

and normal textures.

Material override panel can be found on the side panel..

and bottom panel,

and it's only available if you are using material viewport shading.

Material override can be used to mask the models to

see only specific texture influence

right in the viewport.

Let's just try the first one for the diffuse color.

Now you only see diffuse color without any shading.

To recover to the original material,

just click the button again

Below shadeless diffuse color,

there is shadeless specular color.

Then followed by shadeless normal.

On the right column there is shaded diffuse,

which shows you only the diffuse value.

Then shaded specular,

which shows you specular value without any diffuse.

And the last one on the right column is matcap.

This is similar to the usual matcap,

but now it also takes account of the normal map.

For comparison,

here's usual matcap on solid view.

And here's matcap using material override.

The last one, lighting only is to see

if the model only uses white material.

If material override is activated,

paint slots subpanel only list the ones corresponding

to the active material override.

For example diffuse color only for diffuse color override.

Specular color only for specular color override.

And so on.

Material override has two options,

if the first option is left unchecked,

material override will only happen on the selected mesh.

The next option is to turn on and off

the alpha map when material override is on.

Material override works by altering your material and textures.

If you see on the texture properties,

you can see some textures are disabled when

material override is on.

So if you've done using it don't forget to recover to the original material.

I put the recover buttons in many place,

so you won't forget that the material override is on.

Material override feature is also limited

to the standard blender internal material.

So it will not work with materials that have nodes.

On the next video I'll talk about Bake Tools,

which can be more handy to use than the standard blender bake.

If you find this addon useful,

please consider supporting me on Patreon.

Thanks for watching and see you on the next video.

Springsteen Hated 'Born In The USA' Song, Meet The Patriot Who Saved It - Duration: 4:18.

Springsteen Hated 'Born In The USA' Song, Meet The Patriot Who Saved It

If it was left up to Bruce Springsteen, the mega-hit song "Born in the USA" would

never have been heard by anyone.

In a recent interview, Springsteen pissed off a lot of middle-class Americans as he

revealed why he hates that song and tried to tank it.

Luckily, there was one patriot who urged Springsteen to keep it, but you'll be shocked at Springsteen's

words for anyone who feels pride listening to that song.

Bruce Springsteen's is pissing off his fan base as he reveals that he is not the person

he has been portraying himself to be.

He made his money as the working class rocker who related to those Americans who loved their

country.

Now, Bruce admits he hated one of his biggest hits, "Born in the USA."

"Bruce Springsteen has revealed he nearly gave up one of his most iconic anthems 'Born

In The USA,' admitting he believed it was too insincere," reports Daily Mail.

Speaking at a Q&A session with Tom Hanks at the Tribeca Film Festival, the 67-year-old

rocker opened up to the Oscar-winning actor, insisting that it was E Street Band guitarist

Stevie Van Zandt who convinced him to keep the 1984 hit.

Bruce confessed, "I remember at the time thinking it's too glib.

It's too glib.

I think I still think that.

But Stevie said, 'No, no, no – it's about the band, the brotherhood of the band,

the fans.'"

So, Bruce Springsteen thinks "Born in the USA" is too glib, meaning shallow and insincere.

How is taking pride in your country and honoring Vietnam veterans shallow?

The song's lyrics tell the tale of a Vietnam vet, and those vets cherish the song.

Stevie Van Zandt is also known for his role on "The Sopranos."

Van Zandt is the son of Italian immigrants, and he took his stepfather's last name after

his father died and his mother remarried.

Van Zandt stays clear of politics, but he did make headlines when he defended Mike Pence

and told those in the Broadway production of "Hamilton" to apologize for their rudeness

to the Vice President.

"I gave him the benefit of the doubt [about Born in the USA]," Springsteen said of Stevie

Van Zandt.

"We've played it an awful lot ever since.

But I was always a little frightened of it.

And the whole record I always have mixed feelings about."

The older Bruce Springsteen gets, the more his far leftist views are coming out.

"The Boss" made his fans believe he was like them.

Springsteen's fan base has been patriotic Americans, just like Trump's supporters.

It's the forgotten men and women who work in the factories, our veterans, and those

who live in the same towns they were born in, hoping to keep the values intact.

Now, Bruce is spitting in their faces by saying "Born in the USA" is a shallow, insincere

song.

It angers people when they feel duped.

Springsteen joins the ranks of the other Barack Obama sycophants who hate America.

These idiots get rich, and they forget there is nothing really special about them.

Bruce Springsteen can play guitar and can sing a song, so what?

Somehow, it goes to their heads and they become arrogant fools.

Stevie Van Zandt understood patriotic Americans and proved Bruce is the insincere, shallow

one, not the song "Born in the USA."

yPanel Introduction (#1) - Blender Addon - Duration: 6:46.

yPanel is free blender addon that I've been developing and using personally since last year.

It consists of custom panels..

image layer manager..

material masking..

baking tools..

and many more..

These are few examples that I created with some help from this addon.

The yPanel video series are split into four parts.

You can click on these hot links to quickly jump to the part you want to watch.

For the first video will explain introductory stuff like installation,

addon location,

along with custom panels

Just one more thing to notice before getting started,

yPanel is focusing on workflow and realtime asset creation.

So unfortunately,

because Cycles still has limited realtime feature,

some of these addon functions only work on Blender internal and Blender game

To get yPanel addon,

just go to this github page.

Click clone or download,

and choose download zip.

After the download is finished,

open up Blender,

go to user preference,

go to addons tab,

click install from file,

just open up the zip file you've downloaded before.

Now the addon will show up.

Just don't forget to enable it,

and save user settings.

Now you're ready to go.

yPanel is located in three different locations.

The first one is called top panel

and it's on the top right of the info window

Just find a triangle and click it to reveal the panel.

Next one is bottom panel,

which located on the 3D view header.

And the last one is side panel.

You can find it on the 3D view properties.

The top panel is just a simply mode selector but with expanded list,

so you will only need one click to switch between modes.

I made it this way because I think its more convenient

than having to click twice on the default mode selector.

Related to mode selection,

I also added new hotkeys,

F3 for sculpt mode.

and F4 for texture paint mode

Bottom panel consists of expanded viewport shading selector,

and followed by their viewport related settings,

like only render,

Ambient Occlusion,

And so on.

I put all of this here, so I don't always need to open up view properties,

which is where all these options are originated from.

I also added additional options like simplify and wire

Simplify will override all meshes subdivision level to a value that you can set here.

It can be really useful to minimize lag if your model has high subdivision level.

Wire button is for showing models wireframe.

One click for selected object,

another click for all objects,

one click again to disable all the wireframe.

Side panels is where most of the features are at.

The first row is some expanded mode selector,

like on the top panel.

Then followed by viewport shading selector,

just like on the bottom panel

But now, to save space, there is gear button that contains the viewport settings.

Below that there are many subpanels that you can access.

Some others are completely new features like material override.

Some others are just simplified version of tools that you already use in Blender.

The list of subpanels also depend on the current mode you're on.

For example, if you're on the sculpt mode,

you can also access tools like multires,

symmetry,

and dynamic topology.

Material subpanel is simplified version of the materials tab you'll normally find on the properties window.

specular,

alpha,

and shadeless,

with gear button for each specific settings

This can be really useful to displaying realtime polygonal hair alpha like on this model.

Lastly on the side of material name is an icon for toggling use nodes.

That's all for this video, on the next part

I will explain about paint slots subpanel,

which can be used as image layer manager in Blender
