hey everyone VG here I'm creating this
video to give a brief overview of my
project and how it got started the short
version is that it's a website focused
on video game collectibles kind of like a
shopping cart but only nothing is
for sale if you're still interested in
hearing more I'll be right back after
this intro
all right so to give you a little bit of
info about my background I was born in
the 80s 1980 to be precise a part of
Generation X and playing video games
before I could even walk so I basically
grew up with consoles in arcades before
the internet I was accustomed to doing
my holiday toy shopping out of catalogs
my parents would bring home it wasn't
until my late teens that I really
discovered the World Wide Web or took an
interest in computers which introduced
me to games like doom and half-life that
were really redefining the whole
industry and I still remember the first
video game action figure that I ever
bought it was a character from American
McGee's Alice which was originally for a
friend and it was somewhat graphic and
marketed at those seventeen and older
and I fell in love with that figure I
decided to get another one for myself
and I've been collecting ever since
unfortunately due to you know life being
the roller coaster that it is the size
of my personal collection has
drastically fluctuated over the years
but rather than let that dissuade me I'm
still very passionate about the Hobby
and now armed with a background and web
development I decided that the next best
thing was to start a mostly digital
collection instead and that's where the
basically were the idea for vgc2 or the
video game collectible catalog was born
so no movies no comics no pop culture
just video games even if a movie is
based on a video game if the product was
made specifically for the movie rather
than the game then it wouldn't qualify
the websites out there today only focus
on the newest product from a sales
standpoint they don't really care about
the older stuff and those who do focus
on older products don't focus
exclusively on video games that was the
website that I was after so I couldn't
find anything else out there like it and
decided to build it myself more than a
digital collection I also see the
website as a sort of archive with
historical significance because video
games haven't really been around all
that long and yet certain collectibles
are already extremely difficult to find
and even becoming lost to time for
collectors the catalog will allow you to
narrow your interest down by category so
you can focus on which games or which
type of collectibles matter most to you
in other words you'll be able to use the
website as a sort of checklist for your
own personal collection or even help
improve the catalog by sharing items
from your own collection in fact that's what
drives the website is contributions from
other people's collections for gaming
enthusiasts you'll be able to watch and
participate in community driven reviews
on Twitch based on collectibles from
games even if you don't have an interest
in the collectible side of things yourself
and the catalog also documents the
industry and how each franchise has
progressed over time for example just
how you can compare graphics from older
games to newer games well you can also
compare how the manufacturing processes
have improved over time and how figures
have become more detailed the goal is to
provide all of this information through
an intuitive interface without the
clutter of a forum or unrelated products
and for that reason I've decided to keep
any type of comments or a forum off of
the website so it doesn't become
impossible to find the little tidbits of
information that you're looking for so
any type of interactive chat would just
take place elsewhere such as Discord for
everyone else yeah I do realize this is
kind of a niche market not for everybody
but in order to encourage participation
anyone who contributes will
automatically be entered into a giveaway
and I'm doing the best that I can to
offer the most meaningful rewards that I
can so even if you don't have a
specific interest in the website or what
I'm trying to achieve here I mean you
might be able to win something and use
it as a gift for a friend or something
to that nature by myself I know the
project will be very tedious and
time-consuming I've already put a lot of
my own time and money into it but with
your help I believe it has the potential
to grow into a truly invaluable resource
so that's my story
thank you for taking the time to listen
and if you'd like to help out or learn
more please visit the website I mean you
know when it's finished
for all the details and more depth and
in the meantime feel free to contact me
with any questions or feedback
hey everyone VG here I'm just giving
hey everyone VG here I'm just giving this I
just did it again I also see the website
as an archive can I get the uhs out
