My name is Ryan Hitch.

You can call me Professor Hitch or Mr. Hitch, whatever feels better to you.

Welcome to English 100: Freshman Composition.

If you couldn't already tell, this is an online course.

That means, unlike traditional classes taken on campus, most of us will never meet face

to face.

Of course, that didn't stop me from producing this video [cheesy grin] and that won't stop

me from taking an active role in the class throughout the semester with discussion boards,

feedback, emails, and more.

We'll be taking this course on the Canvas LMS (that is the learning management system).

If you've used Canvas before, great.

If you haven't, please know that there are resources available to you to familiarize

yourself with the website.

I won't mix my words, this is going to be a challenging semester.

English 100 is a near universal prerequisite for graduation or transfer and that's because

what you learn here applies to nearly all other aspects of life.

And because I want nothing but success for all of you in your collective futures, I'm

setting my standards high and I hope you'll do the same.

That said, nothing in this class should be so challenging that it feels unachievable.

If that's ever the case for you, I do hope that you'll reach out so that I can do my

best to fix that disconnect.

My goal this semester is that everyone earns a passing grade for this course.

Now, all I need is your help.
