Hey there, You know I got a broken aquarium in my old garage and I decided to fix it.
The reason why I am looking for a new aquarium is that I bought a small 4 inch silver arowana
recently and I though it will be fine with the turtle I had but after a recent water
change I found the beautiful silver arowana in the mouth of the turtle chewing the last
bit of arowana head when I spotted it.
So I have decide to keep the turtle in separate aquarium or make a turtle aquarium itself.
So I am repairing this broken aquarium and it will also help anyone of you guys who are
having a broken aquarium.
Now broken aquarium is not the end of the aquarium life.
You can still repair it at much lower cost than buying a new one.
And also homemade aquarium are sometime much cheaper than bought from market.
I will also make a video on how to make an aquarium for yourself you can find it here
as well in cards showing above when I upload it.
For now let's get started with the repairing of a broken aquarium.
Aquarium glass usually breaks due to excessive pressure exerted on it due to thin glass selection,
décor or gravels in it or due to the type of fish which can also break the glasses but
it is very rare.
Now breaks in glass can occur in the bottom as well as on the sides.
In both cases the solution are simple, however glass breaks at bottom are much easier to
fix.
So let first deal with the breakage at the bottom of the aquarium.
Now again for bottom broken side of aquarium two methods can be followed to fix it.
Firstly, such breaks are easily fixed by applying a patch on the broken glass.
For that just you need a identical glass sheet that is similar in size to the bottom side
of the aquarium.
Once you get that it's only the silicon sealant that is required.
Here I have pasted the sealant on the outer surface however you can apply it inside the
aquarium and place the glass sheet inside the aquarium and further apply sealant on
the edges of it.
Leave the glued surface as it is for 24 to 48 hours and check for the water leakage thereafter.
Now the second method is replacing the whole glass itself.
Replacing the glass requires you to separate out all glasses and rejoin them again.
It is due to the fact that old silicon sealant used does not merge or glue with new silicon
and it could create leakage if only individual bottom glass is removed.
So remove all old silicon from the surfaces and cut through the join to detach the sealant
once that is done just remove the scrap silicon sealant with white spirit or acetone acid
vinegar is a good example.
When all glasses are detached apply the new silicon sealant and join all surfaces together.
I will also make a video on how to make an aquarium using glass sheet and it will be
similar to that.
If I already made, you could see it in the cards showing above.
Now for breakage on the sides of aquarium the only solution is the second method I just
discussed earlier that is removing all glass sheets by removing the old sealant and rejoin
them with fresh new silicon sealant.
In that way you can get aquarium with no water leakage.
Also in all above method remember to apply sufficient silicon sealant before joining
two edges as it could make stronger bond without leaving any vent.
That's it for this video I hope you like it and found useful.
