I Never Wore Clothes - Duration: 1:52.

Growing up in a Latinx home meant

that you never wore clothes as a kid.

Literally, majority of my kid photos

are me without shirts, pants, and just in a diaper.

This was pretty normal for my family and a lot of my other Latinx friends.

I think the reason that my mom never clothed me

was because I was always making a mess.

I was always shoving food in my face.

Getting it everywhere.

And I use to copy my dad a lot and he never wore

t-shirts around the house.

Also I was always playing outside with my sisters

again getting messy.

Like I remember, I could feel my mother's rage

after church because I was a complete mess.

I'd always find a way to dirty those poofy

floral dresses she would make me wear

with the white stockings.

So as soon as we got home, she would strip me of my clothes

and then let her wild child free.

But I remember growing up that not only was this not the norm

for my white friends,

I never had dedicated pajamas like my white friends.

Oh and by the way, I grew up in a very white neighborhood

I was one of the few Latinx kids until like I got to high school.

Anyway, pajamas!

My parents never actually bought myself

or my sisters actual pajamas.

Like those nice pajama pants with like

the pajama shirt that's a button down.

No, we never had them.

Oversized t-shirts were our pajamas.

And most of my pajama t-shirts

were my dad's New York Mets t-shirts.

But honestly, it was great! I never had to wear pants.

Which I didn't like as a kid and I still don't like it now.

Going to the bathroom in the middle of the night was way easier.

And I felt free!

So today as a 24 year old woman,

I don't really walk around the house without any clothes.

Although sometimes I still don't wear pants.

But the one thing that has stuck since my childhood,

is wearing big t-shirts to bed.

And I still don't know what it's like to actually own pajamas.

And you know what, that's fine.

I wouldn't have it any other way.
