Hi guys! Great to see you again with another hair product review.
Today, I'd like to cover two products that were actually recommended by you guys.
Several people told me that I should review this brand.
So thanks to Lennart and Fabian for recommending this brand.
The brand we're talking about is Black Label Grooming from the UK.
They are currently hyped very much on Instagram, where they have 200k followers,
loads of hair style inspiration. The Images on there are really top notch,
so I highly recommend you to check them out. If you're interested, the link can be found in the description.
Today, we talk about Craft Clay...
... and also Shape Paste, by Black Label Grooming.
Craft Clay is said to be a high hold product giving a lot of texture, but also a matte finish
since it's a clay, as the name suggests. I've also got it in my hair right now.
Shape Paste on the other hand is a relatively light wax
giving you a medium hold, a light shine and, compared to Craft Clay, less texture
Plus, it's a paste. Similar products are American Crew Fiber
or Natural Beeswax Paste by Mr. Pompadour.
But first, let's talk about packaging.
I think, the packaging is awesome and I've never seen anyone do this before.
As you can see, the jars the products come in are completely label-free
meaning that there are no stickers glued to it. Instead, everything is printed
directly on the jars themselves.
I think this is a nice idea, since the jars don't get sticky
and can be washed off easily if needed.
Each jar is also protected with a second plastic lid,
which is also kind of new, since most products do have some kind of
plastic foam inside the lid so they don't dry out.
All in all, the packaging seems totally solid. There's no rattling
or sharp edges and it feels very sturdy.
When screwing off the lid, you are presented with the product.
Craft Clay is a very viscous, waxy, sticky product of grey colour.
I have to say, it most certainly belongs to the stickiest clays that I have ever used.
Also, it does not turn white when warmed up in your palms, unlike every product I know of.
On the other hand, Shape Paste is a pliable paste that feels a lot like American Crew's Fiber.
The jar I'm using had kind of a patina, first, so it took me some work to get it outta there
but since that's been gone, the product distributes easily between my palms.
Craft Clay stayed sticky up until today, but can be distributed well when heat is applied.
Both products have a pretty unique lemon sherbet scent that will last some time throughout the day.
It's really citrussy, sweet and fresh. I personally like it, but just so you know, it will stay present for some hours.
Both products also contain several ingredients meant to condition your hair and strengthen hair health.
Let's talk about the ease of application!
As I said before, Craft Clay is pretty sticky, but this actually made it easier for me to apply it.
Since it all sticks together, that makes it easier to distribute between your palms.
Shape Paste, on the other hand, contained quite some bits and pieces when I first used it.
So, although being the lighter product, it took longer to get it going.
All in all, both products still were relatively easy to apply, but still give you two very different looks.
Craft Clay earns the award of being probably the mattest product I've ever used in my entire life.
It provides loads of texture, but without weighing your hair down.
You can also add quite a bit of it without destroying your hairstyle's height,
something that's absolutely impossible with brands like Hanz de Fuko.
Depending on how you pre-style your hair, Shape Paste will give you different looks.
When used on freshly shampooed hair, the look was rather dry and matte,
but when used on second or third day hair, it added quite some shine and texture.
Shape Paste does however provide flexibility, so when you need to re-style your hair, you can.
Unlike American Crew Fiber, the hold stays the same and does not vanish at some point during the day.
According to the label, this one has hold 3/5, while the Craft Clay has 5/5.
However, I found the hold to be quite strong, especially for a paste.
In the end, I found myself using Craft Clay way more often, just because I love Clays in general.
My hair tends to be on the dry side of things, so a Clay is just more "my kind of product".
On second and third days, I also enjoyed the Shape Paste experience, so to speak,
so my verdict is in general really positive. Those are excellent products and worth the hype.
