He finally did it, Dolph Ziggler finally turned heel!

One of the better technical wrestlers in the WWE today, Dolph has made a career on his

excellent in-ring ability and ability to connect with fans.

From elite athlete to male cheerleader and back again, this is Wrestling Origins: Dolph

Ziggler!

Nicholas Theodore Nemeth was born on July 27th, 1980, in Cleveland, Ohio.

He grew up an avid wrestling fan and great athlete.

He says he played sports from the age of 5 years old, which is no surprise given how

athletically gifted he is.

He also says that he thought about getting into pro wrestling from a young age as well.

Nick, as he's more commonly known, attended St. Edward High School in Lakewood where he

would compete in amateur wrestling.

Nick was a really damn good wrestler.

He set the school record for the most pins in a career with 82, and his wrestling team

would win the National Championships twice.

After high school, Nick went to Kent State University, a division 1 school, where he

would continue wrestling.

There, he would set the record for the most career wins in team history, with 21 wins

between 2000 and 2003.

He would go on to win consecutive championships, namely he's a three time All-Mid-American

Conference champion at 165 pounds.

Interestingly, Nick says he didn't want to win all the championships for the sake

of winning, but he wanted to use his wrestling background to get into the WWE like Kurt Angle,

who I presume was an idol of his.

Anyways, Nick would try out at Ohio Valley Wrestling in 2004 for a shot at becoming a

pro wrestler, but was originally turned down.

He wouldn't be deterred though, as he kept training on his own and bulking up, and he

eventually landed himself a contract with WWE in 2004.

He was assigned to OVW and would go under his real name of Nick Nemeth.

He would quickly feud with Paul Burchill before landing a title shot again Ken Doane in August,

2005, but he would lose.

Nick wouldn't spend a ton of time in developmental before being called up to the RAW roster in

September of 2005.

He would debut there as the golf caddy for Kerwin White, the hilarious persona of Chavo

Guerrero.

He would serve as his sidekick or enforcer, and even tagged with him against Shelton Benjamin

and Matt Striker where he made his wrestling debut.

However, after the death of Eddie Guerrero, Chavo dropped the gimmick and Nick was sent

back to OVW.

There, Nick would become part of the infamous Spirit Squad, a group of five male cheerleaders.

Now going under Nicky, The Spirit Squad had to legitimately train with real cheerleaders

to make it seem authentic.

On January 23, 2006, the group would debut on WWE TV on RAW where they helped Jonathan

Coachman win a match.

Then they would become involved with a feud between Vince McMahon and Shawn Michaels,

attacking Shawn on multiple occasions.

After receiving a title shot, two members of the squad would win the World Tag Team

belts from Big Show and Kane, but all the members would be recognized as champions.

After continuing their attack on HBK, Shawn would reform D-Generation X with Triple H

to take care of the squad, which they did.

After that, the squad would retain their championships on multiple occasions before finally losing

them to Ric Flair and Roddy Piper, just before being buried by DX and sent once again back

to OVW.

Again as Nick Nemeth, he would continue developing and working dark matches from 2007 to 2008.

He would most notably win the FCW Florida Tag Team Championships on two occasions.

After being repackaged in 2008, Nick would make his on air debut on RAW as Dolph Ziggler

in September.

However, he would be popped for violating the WWE Wellness Policy and was suspended

for 30 days less than a month later.

Dolph would make his wrestling debut when he returned in December, where he lost to

Batista.

He would get his first victory a few weeks later against Charlie Haas before competing

in the Royal Rumble and being eliminated in 21 seconds.

In April of 2009, Dolph was drafted to SmackDown where he would quickly get a US title match,

though he couldn't capture it from MVP.

Next, Ziggler would enter an on-screen relationship with Maria, while also chasing the Intercontinental

Championship.

However, he failed on multiple occasions and eventually broke up with Maria after she cost

him a match.

Moving to 2010, Dolph would begin a relationship with Vickie Guerrero before finally winning

the Intercontinental Championship for the first time from Kofi Kingston.

He would retain his title multiple times, holding it all the way to TLC where he lost

it back to Kofi, ending his reign at 160 days.

From there, Ziggler would begin feuding with Edge for the World Heavyweight Championship.

He would lose at Royal Rumble, as well as on SmackDown, but due to Vickie's corruption

as GM, she awarded Dolph the title, but Edge won it back promptly.

After moving over to RAW and being billed as the "new and improved" Ziggler, he

would win his first United States title from Kofi Kingston.

He would retain for a while once again before finally losing it to Zack Ryder at TLC.

He would get a couple more championship shots in the next little while, but was unsuccessful.

Moving to 2012, Dolph would win the Money in the Bank ladder match to win a World Heavyweight

Championship contract.

He would try to cash in on Sheamus a few times but was attacked by Alberto Del Rio before

he could.

Holding onto his briefcase, Dolph would feud with Chris Jericho, Randy Orton, and John

Cena to name a few.

He would also become involved with AJ Lee at this time and work with Big E Langston

who was called up from NXT.

Moving to April, Dolph would cash in his contract on the RAW after WrestleMania 29 where he

defeated Alberto Del Rio to win the World Heavyweight Championship in an awesome moment.

Unfortunately, Ziggler was injured soon after and had to take a month off from TV.

When he returned, he feuded with Del Rio and lost his title, but not before Del Rio turned

heel and Dolph turned face in the same match.

His championship reign lasted just 69 days, and he failed to capture it in the rematch.

Moving forward, Dolph began gaining popularity but wouldn't be able to capitalize on his

numerous title shots before suffering a concussion at the hands of Ryback.

He would make his return but continue to lose until July where he defeated The Miz to win

the Intercontinental Championship.

He would retain until Night of Champions, where Miz won it back, but Dolph got it back

once again the next night.

He would hold the belt for just 56 days until he lost it to Luke Harper.

A little while later, Dolph would win the Intercontinental belt once again after defeating

Harper in a ladder match.

Side note: Dolph was named Rolling Stone's WWE Wrestler of the Year in 2014.

Moving to 2015, Dolph would lose the title to Bad News Barrett after Kane distracted

him.

After WrestleMania 31, where Dolph failed to win back the Intercontinental Championship,

he would become involved with Lana, the former manager of Rusev.

They feuded with Rusev and Summer Rae until the real life engagement of Rusev and Lana

was announced, which ended the storyline.

After a relatively quite 2015, Dolph Ziggler's career picked up a bit in 2016.

After getting a couple title shots and having some good matches with the likes of Kevin

Owens, Triple H, and Sami Zayn, Ziggler would feud with Baron Corbin.

The two traded wins over one another, but eventually Corbin came out on top by defeating

Dolph at Money in the Bank.

Dolph Ziggler was drafted to SmackDown as part of the 2016 WWE Draft and quickly became

number one contender for the WWE Championship, but couldn't defeat champion Dean Ambrose

at SummerSlam.

Since then, Dolph has feuded with The Miz for the Intercontinental Championship, notably

putting his career on the line at No Mercy.

Despite being attacked by his former Spirit Squad teammates, Dolph would win the title,

only to lose it back to The Miz.

Most recently, Dolph turned heel on SmackDown after failing to capture the WWE Championship

and being attacked by Baron Corbin.

And that was Wrestling Origins: Dolph Ziggler.
