Waching daily Sep 4 2018

Whats up everyone, I'm Izak Jackson and on this week's episode of Tutorial Tuesday, we

are going to be talking about how you can charge for your client video work.

Let's go!

So when I send out my proposals to each of my clients, I like to provide them with a

variety of options.

This gives the client some control and allows them to choose what would work best for their

budget.

By providing these options, it can increase the likeliness that the client will go with

your services.

So for this, I always follow the MoSCoW rule.

Which is, Must have, Should have, Could have.

For example, the client must have a 2-minute short form documentary to go on their website,

and the documentary needs to cover what problems the client faced and how that companies product

helped them to solve that problem.

Next, the client should have some 1-minute short form versions of the documentary that

they can use on social media.

Finally, the client could have some 10-15 second highlight videos that are more shareable

to get the word spread about that product.

By giving them these different options and prices, it gives the client a chance to decide

what works best for them, and it also shows them the value of your work.

So now that you have given the client options, how are you going to go about billing them?

So the first things, and this is what you'll do for the majority of your projects, is you'll

charge on a per-project basis.

For this, I will charge 50% of the project costs upfront, and 50% on delivery.

The reason I do it like that is to help with cash flow at the start of the project.

So for this, you want to charge for everything you do on the project.

Charge for your pre-production, your production & post-production.

Charge for any marketing stuff you do, make sure you charge for rentals.

If you are hiring some other crew, you want to pay their salaries out of that as well.

Also, because you are running a business, you want to be making a profit on this project,

so make sure you add some money on top of that to help make a profit.

When I invoice for the final 50%, I will also add on the costs of any expenses such as travel

and accommodation.

I will keep the receipts to show that client.

The other way that I charge for client projects is through a retainer.

I will only use a retainer if the project has a big scope, and is going to take months

and months to complete.

Usually, a retainer will be a fixed term, and this could be anything from 2 to 3 months,

to 6 months to a year, or even longer.

When doing retainer work, I will charge the client for x amount of hours per month.

This could be 30 hours, 40 hours, 50 hours, it all depends on what the client needs.

Because it is a fixed term contract and I know there is going to be money coming in,

to make it a good deal for both the client and myself, I offer them a discount on that

service.

So if I usually charge £50 per hour of work, I could charge £40 instead to give the client

a discount.

Going with a retainer is a win-win for both you and the client.

You give them a discount on your services, and you also get the security of knowing that

the money is going to be coming in every month for x amount of months.

I always send out the first invoice before I start any work, and that is for 50% of the

first month's costs.

Each month after that, I will send the rest of the bill to them at the end of the month.

I will also send over andy expenses accrued over the month, such as travel and accommodation.

I will provide the client with those receipts.

When doing retainer work, I also like to provide the client with a document that breaks down

the amount of time I have spent on each area of the project.

That way the client knows exactly where their money is being spent.

So there we go, that's some quick tips on how you can charge your clients for video

work.

Talking about proposals and giving them multiple options, and then how you go about billing

for this project, whether it is a retainer or a per project contract.

This week's question of the week is, how would you usually charge your clients?

What do you usually do when are putting together proposals and sending of your contracts and

invoices?

Les Brown - This Is What Fear Makes You Do (Motivaitonal Video) - Duration: 5:06.

LES BROWN: Smyly Blanton who is the colleague of

dr. norman vincent peale what he said

about theories that fear is the most

subtle and destructive of all human

diseases

ladies and gentlemen fear kills dreams

fear kills hope fear what people in the

hospital fear can age you fear ladies

and gentlemen can hold you back from

doing something that you know within

yourself that you're capable of doing

but it will paralyze you and it seem

like you're in a hypnotic spell and I

ask you a question what is the benefit

what's the benefit of allowing fear to

hold you back what's the benefit of

giving up on yourself of not stepping

out on life and taking life on what is

the benefit for you what's the plus in

that it's one of the things I had to ask

myself so I didn't want to make any

mistakes I wanted everybody to like me I

wanted to be perfect the first time I

did something it's not going to happen

you're gonna make some mistakes you're

gonna hurt some folks feelings you're

gonna create some enemies whenever you

decide that you want to begin to take

life on you've got to ask yourself how

long am I going to allow this to hold me

back

fear is false evidence appearing real

Venice the delusion that we created our

mind it is a state of mind that can be

changed look at your life right now

whatever you've done up to this point in

time your life is working whatever you

have produced it came out of you as a

result of the kind of person that you

have become as a result of your choices

as a result of your consciousness now

you have to ask yourself are you

satisfied with what you hit produce is

this what you want would you like the

things would be better than this do you

believe that you deserve better than

this are you content to do everything

anything else but you already resign

yourself in life somewhat I'm happy I'm

not starving like the people in Calcutta

are you allowing yourself to get off the

hook like that or do you believe

somewhere in the back of your mind or in

your heart but there's some other great

work for you to do there's something

else that light has for you

I believe that you have to begin to

consciously monitor yours inner

conversation and stop talking to

yourself start building yourself up

sometimes the only good things you will

hear about you are the things that you

say to you here's something else most

people are not living their dreams

because of fear ladies and gentlemen I

was in Columbus Ohio yesterday speaking

for a particular Ohio Department you

lady named Karen who greeted me who

organized the event very talented very

skillful and she was talking about she

wanted to become involved in the

consulting business as they want you

doing it I said you have the abilities I

said you're not here because they like

you you're here because you're doing the

job you're making things happen and she

came up with all kind of ideas but

finally she said I guess I I can't see

myself doing it I guess I'm afraid fear

limited vision and lack of self-esteem

is what keep most people doing things

they don't

want to do public blue from Columbus

Ohio to Denver Colorado to a major

communications company and the person

that picked up the airport told me about

the fact that the company is planning on

having a major downsizing and they

offered some of the employees there in

early retirement and some of them will

earn as much as $300,000 and they said

this is the last time that you can take

this offer if you don't do it when we

have the downsizing you might be among

those who will lose their jobs and all

you will get is your severance pay and

only 50% of the people who were eligible

to take the $300,000 took it the others

were afraid to take a chance on

themselves the others couldn't see

themselves beyond that company they

couldn't see life after that company the

same reason that people stay in

relationships where they're abused are

they're unhappy where it's fun

fulfilling they can't see themselves be

that relationship they can't see

themselves enjoying life without that

person they think that this is harder

they can do the same reason that people

get stuck at a certain level in life

they can't see things being better for

them and they fake the business in and

this is all they deserve this is law

they've ever seen

they've been passed on to them and they

think that this is it for them Oh No

DADA I & REBELSTEPPA - KEEP ON MOVING (OFFICIAL VIDEO) 2018 - Duration: 4:17.

For some life a path, is like a rocky road

Going to risk, the price will become the essence of the life

we are trying to find our way to home

let in the eyes of people, that they themselves will not notice a breach

I'm in their garden weed but is the garden the one around?

so what is it?

Oh no no no

In all, they blame the fruits of sick imaginations

When you just need to re-assemble the puzzle

so what's the problem?

But no, them laziness

Who closes us to ring as a sacrifice

A hungry beast that keeps us in the cages

Understand already at last!

No, you're not God!

There is no freedom - the leaders is exactly a pigs

and we can not frighten off the parasites of wormwood

we look into the distance, but these are just silent films

give me fresh air and give me sensimilla

let me just stand up, oh what wings can there be?

born alas already with debts for apartments

world sales of nimbuses, rhymes for the sake of rhyme

In us the meaning is hidden, as in any creation

here is no law, but there is an eerie goblin

that he was eating the minds of children while the grown-up was taken aback

can sleep enough to let the truth cuts your ears!

Sweet-nosed songwriter from the TV noodles hangs us

but there is a choice, brother

he always is, the main determination is like a solid as a rock

Look, because Dada I brings to you his own words

come on, because Dada I informs you of their, yes

world has gone mad, countries have gone mad

everyone here seems to be here for himself

we do not need war, crisis and hunger

we do not need any enmity

world has gone mad, countries have gone mad

everyone here seems to be here for himself

Crafting D.I.Y. Bricks, Walls & Turf | Video Workbench: The Scale Model Show - Duration: 8:26.

- Here's a simple tip to make your own miniature bricks

using a paper mâché product called DAS.

DAS is an air drying modeling clay that comes in

different colors,

including the one that I'm using in this video,

which is terracotta.

The clay will dry rock hard at room temperature

after a couple of hours.

There will be no need to put it in an oven

or microwave to bake it.

In this video, I make two different types of bricks

that can be used for any 1/35 scale diorama.

Solid and hollow.

Both types are easily made.

I made the hollow bricks using an innovative silicone mold

from a company known as J's Work.

The solid bricks are made entirely by hand.

(rock music)

- (Jason) Here are the materials and tools that I used

to make my bricks.

The basic and most important material is the

DAS hobby clay that dries at room temperature.

I bought mine at our local hobby store in the craft section.

An artist spatula and a hollow brick silicone rubber

mold from Jay's work.

Carve out a piece of DAS modeling clay,

so that you can work three rows at a time.

You want to keep most of the clay in its container

so it is kept moist as much as possible.

Press the modeling clay into the silicone mold.

Since we are making rubble bricks,

you do not need to be overly perfect.

A few that come out imperfect, is okay and won't be that

obvious once the bricks are scattered onto the base.

Shave off excess modeling clay using your spatula.

Make sure that the bricks are leveled to the surface

and the bricks show the three air holes.

Once that is done, leave set to dry.

I recommend leaving it for 8 to 12 hours

depending where you dry them.

Planning to do an urban setting diorama?

These terracotta bricks are ready to be scattered

onto your base.

These hollow bricks might be slightly different,

but will surely improve how your diorama looks.

Here's a silicone mold for the bricks.

They are from J's Work and can be purchased

by going to the J's Work's website.

J's Work's products are quite innovative

and I recommend them for those diorama enthusiasts

that want to add more realism to their creations.

The second type of brick is the solid version.

Here, I have a piece of DAS hobby clay placed onto a

discarded aluminum soda can so it's easier to lift and dry.

Aluminum foil will work just as good

so please keep that in mind.

I use a white board marker to flatten the modeling clay,

though a wooden dowel is recommended.

Using a straight ruler or cutter, here I'm using a

stainless steel template

to cut the hobby clay into small strips.

I cut the clay again in the other direction

creating small rectangles.

Once done, set aside for drying.

Just like the hollow bricks, it will take 8 to 12 hours

depending on the room temperature and climate to harden.

- Sometimes I like to make things from scratch for dioramas

and that's because

I usually either don't wanna go out to the store

or I don't want a store made product

that lacks personality.

Every time you make something for a diorama,

yourself, it's coming from you

and it has a little bit of your personality in it.

So, this video

is dedicated to making things homemade

in your studio or at your desk

or at your workbench for dioramas.

So, what do we get?

To the video!

- (Jason) Let's start with the materials

needed for this project.

Pre mixed dry wall paste, craft type acrylic paint,

any mold made from a cat litter pail lid

can make anyone an expert stone mason in any scale.

Mix water based acrylic paint with the dry wall paste.

Spread it out evenly onto your casting service or the mold.

Here, I have used the lid from a pail of cat litter

as my mold.

This is where you determine the thickness of your stone.

I wanted flat semi-thin rocks

so I went about two to three millimeters

thick on the spread.

Let dry for at least 12 hours.

Once dry, it can be broken into whatever

size stone you require.

This is why the process work so well in any scale.

I used a piece of scrap sheet styrene as a base

to ease assembly and facilitate any detail painting.

Dry brushing et cetera.

I used crazy glue or CA in assembly

but I'm sure that your favorite brand will do as well.

The assembly was attached to the base upon its completion.

And that covers this basic technique.

You should seal it and finish it with standard techniques.

- If you're a modeler who likes to take pictures

of your finished models, then this video is for you.

- All these years, all you have are those boring

white, blue, gray and black backgrounds.

They're sufficient but you always wanted something

a little more such as a proper base to go with your

completed scale model.

That's what this How To video is all about.

I have lots of friends who build World War II

aircraft models and I always thought that it would be nice

to have an all in one base.

Something that can be used for various photo shoots.

This project is very easy.

It's simple enough that you can complete

the turf base in this project

in around two hours, give or take.

Once completed and dry, you can use the base

for all your photo shoots.

- (Jason) How about having an Academy 1/72 scale

Hawker Typhoon on the turf?

The set up can represent a forward air base

anywhere in Western Europe during World War II.

To get started on your project,

you'll need several different types of materials.

The base is ordinary styrofoam.

I tape some masking tape on the edges to get a nice border.

Turf materials, which you can buy

at your local railroad shop. I bought two different types.

Some very fine sand, different colors are preferred.

Some fine sawdust, also in different colors.

White glue and a container to dilute the glue and water.

An ice cream stick to stir the glue,

mesh to help filter the sawdust and fine sand.

The main material for my turf is this

static grass from NOCH.

The pile on the left is spring mead

and the one on the right is marsh.

The pile in the middle is a mix of the two.

The containers will be used to mix

my white glue water solution.

I kept a few plastic bags of sand in different colors.

This one is a light yellow color.

I used a mesh for cooking

to make sure that I get only the finest grain.

Having a turf diorama is very useful.

As this photo attests, it can be used as a great

background for your finished model.

After we spread some white glue on the base,

we can sprinkle the grass mixture on top of it.

Can you see the difference between this and the first photo?

The turf is taking shape really fast. It's getting thicker.

Here, the diorama is taking shape very fast.

I'm adding some drops of white glue,

diluted in water of course, onto some of the bald spots.

Then, I will sprinkle some more static grass.

Here is the completed diorama.

I did not wanna make my turf diorama looking like a

soccer field, so I mixed the ground work up with

different colors of sand and sawdust.

Here's the turf with a finished model.

You can see that I made the base more than I need.

The reason, is that when I take the pictures,

I get good background coverage.
