so one of the fun things about having a YouTube channel if I'm being honest is
the fact that companies want to send you stuff all the time my response back to
every email I get from any company or any person wants to send me something to
review is simply feel free to send it I will check it out if I like it I will
make a video about it if I don't I will not and that's been always how I want to
do things I want to this channel to be completely honest I don't want to unbox
things and review products that suck just because someone sent them to me for
free but every once in a while I get one I'd say probably maybe 5% 10% of things
people send me I actually think are worth telling you about and this is one
of them the link star Rx 11 TD is an LED light
that is controllable dimmable extremely soft when you want it but extremely
bright when you also need it this light is not gonna be intended for anyone that
does wedding filmmaking or specifically for the use in speeches their first
dance as any of that this is not for that but for people that do YouTube
content or do commercial work or anyone looking for a nice soft light this light
has been extremely impressive to me and just the kind of three to five days that
I've had it and it's a light that I've been really really impressed with for a
very small price point for me when I'm looking at lights for interviews or
YouTube content or anything where I'm looking for just a very natural-looking
light I wanted to be very controllable I want it to be temperature controlled so I
can really match what the room is actually showing the actual light in the
room and I wanted to just be portable and small and lightweight and when
this company sent me this actual light to try I figured well it can't really be
very good for 270 bucks because I know that lights can be really expensive but
I've been blown away by it and I wanted to tell you about it because if you can
find an affordable light that works really really well I think it's
something you should absolutely add to your bag so I wanted to just kind of
briefly tell you about what I like and then per usual there's a link down below
click on it I get a small commission if you buy it from Amazon just from
affiliate links which I always appreciate but overall I just think it's
a great light and I wanted to tell you about it so as I mentioned I'm always
looking for a nice soft light that is controllable and this does exactly that
you can do from zero to 100% intensity and then you
can change the actual color temperature between 3300 and 5600 Kelvin so you can
get a nice warm light or you can get a very daylight balance type of light
right now I'm being lit by just a window on the side of my office here this light
is currently not on so this right here is the main unit that you actually use
to control the lights you control their brightness the color temperature all
that it would've been nice if this was a little bit smaller just because it's
kind of big but maybe there's some technology in here that is requiring it
to be that I don't really know that like tech stuff of how to make things I just
know how to use them and so it's a little big but I do like it I like that
they included this little handle on it or or whatever this is because I like to
be able to hang it like on the light stand itself if I'm using it so I can
kind of quickly control it and have just control of it so that's really nice got
a nice long power cable probably 20 feet or so if I'm estimating I love when
things come with long power cables because I don't have to have as many
extension cords it can also be used with like V mount battery systems so the cool
thing is you could actually use this without having to plug into a wall I
don't have any V mount stuff so that's not really something I need but I may
consider getting one if I use this light more and I want to bring it with me
because it is nice having a small portable light that can fold up and yet
can also run on battery power that could be really good for like remote locations
and things what's cool about this is this is made up of tons and tons of
little LEDs LEDs obviously stay cool they're never hot so you can pack it up
as soon as you're done you could leave running for a long time it barely uses
electric and because their LEDs they are controllable with different color
temperatures and that's a huge perk to me because no situation is always
perfect daylight that you can just always use daylight and I don't like
having to use gels when I'm doing running gun stuff I like to be able to
set it up quickly and adjust it and this does really give that this is actually
like a flexible flexible light so it like rolls up which is really nice for
packing and then it goes on to this little frame here just to actually use
it and then it just has a standard mount that you can use on a c-stand or light
stand whatever you want so I just have it on kind of a cheap little light stand
here it's only twenty bucks this light stands and I keep this just kinda in my
office and then this whole thing just pops right off and it rolls up and is
super portable which is great because you can pack this whole thing into a
backpack and be ready to bring it with you but if I turned it on here
obviously my exposure probably will get a little messed up you can see here on
the remote itself you have the actual color temperature that you want to dial
in and then next to that you have the percentage of how bright the light is
so right now is that 2% and it goes all the way up to a hundred percent and
that's really nice because you get flexibility and brightness and obviously
it will blow me out if I make this insanely bright but it gets really
bright so that looks horrible but you get my point
I found most times that in all the videos that I've been using it and
shooting it for in my studio and for YouTube and all these different videos
most times I have it below 15% because it just is it's a bright light and yet
it's very soft I'm amazed of how I can turn it on six or seven percent put it
really close to me and just get a very natural look it looks like window light
it looks like it's just really well lit but yet it's not like it doesn't look
like a light it's really really nice for that you can obviously adjust the
temperature from 5600 all the way down to 3300 actually 3000 I'm sorry and then
that's just you're much warmer late you can see that some of the lights half the
lights are designed for that color temperature and the other half are
designed for the daylight color temperature and then they just vary
according to what you're looking for so if you're in daylight like I am you kind
of have it on 5600 you can use it kind of as a nice soft light nice fill light
if I put it over here and put it really low intensity it would be kind of just a
nice fill so you can see there's there's no light whatsoever
here's just a nice soft little fill light on my cheek and that's at 1% 1%
intensity now if I shut my windows real quick you can see that if I put this at
5,600 and I go to just 1% look at that like 1% is giving me almost like the
feel of what it was with the window open 1% and you can see how it's very natural
you see if I turn this off entirely and go back to the actual initial shot with
the window showing and that's back to daylight this right here is just another
sampling just how versatile the light is so my setup now
is this is actually just directly above me on a c-stand about eight feet off the
ground or so there's the camera in front of me there's my little monitor but look
at how even this is actually lighting the entire room and even in this
situation most times you have issues with getting shadows under the eyes and
because this light is so soft it's amazing how I can put it above me only
at ten percent battery and it's even enough that it will light a whole
interview maybe for a podcast setup or just an additional soft light to use to
light up background stuff but it's just really really even if I turn the light
off to show you the difference so you can get a feel for it
that's no light at all and that's light but here's where I think it's most
impressive if I turn off all the lights in the office the only light is a tiny
bit of light you can see coming in from the side here this is obviously not how
it ever shoot a video but if I turn this light on at just 2% and just have it
right next to the camera here it's really soft like it's very
natural-looking and I just and I think you'll probably agree that that's a
really nice little look it's not that I would necessarily make this like my
interview setup but the fact that the light can produce this kind of nice soft
light at just two percent intensity it's just something I think is really really
cool so so when you buy the whole light kit on Amazon you get the light itself
you get the bracket on the back you get this little L bracket that allows you to
have some flexibility in the angle that it's at the power cable obviously comes
with it and you also get a little bag that you can actually carry it in so the
only thing it doesn't come with is a light stand itself but if you pair it
with something like this cheap little impact stand I have not super sturdy I
wouldn't like put this insanely high because this light stands really junky
but it's good for just a light like this because I don't know how much just light
weighs but it's it's it's like nothing it's like a waterproof material so I
don't know if you should use it outside but it's not gonna be a big deal if it I
don't know I'm not gonna recommend using anything electric outside but you get my
point and you literally can just take this off it just comes right off this
little thing here rolls up and it's ready to be used and that's it so yeah
I'm always excited to bring you things that I think might be useful for your
video production especially if they're affordable so I recommend that if you
are youtuber or if you have a video production company and you're looking
for a nice light to either add to your rig or maybe even use it go ahead and
pick one of these up it just it's a great little light for the price under
300 bucks for a really good working light is an incredible steel to me so
