today's traits k man is getting solar
installed that's right we're getting a
6.9 20 watt solar system that's going on
the hearth as we sweep now we just drop
the boys off at school so we are going
to head home and see what progress
they've made it's only 840 am but they
have scraped the remainder of the ice
and snow off my proof and they're going
to start I guess I looking for studs and
I don't know what the heck they're doing
but find out that they'll definitely be
done by 2pm me to wait for the
electricians so deep
okay man just get the first set of solar
installed this is a 5.9 kilowatt system
and when we took them about through
considering headed by 18 degrees right
now it took them about six hours to
install it now in that including lunch
break so right now they're just the
panel inside they handing out they're
racking up each panel is approximately
270 wat well we're going to go on up the
ladder and take a peek at my new solar
install they were AB yesterday
installing it really really cold out
it's about 15 degrees right now there we
are we have of the two four six eight
ten twelve nine miss class 2 4 6 8 10 12
14 16 18 20 22 panels and these are 270
watts per panel fact I have these same
cells almost exactly the same cell in a
box in my office for when I made my own
solar panels ended up selling those it's
using m-phase mppt devices one on each
panel each panel has its own serial
number see if we can get a get a look at
one right there it's really quick the
cold out
hope my zoom buttons even sticking
there's one of the devices each panel I
can track the actual output from each
panel and it's all Wi-Fi web-connected
at least it will be once the install is
done you can see they leave their
destruct over the side right now waiting
on the electrician become 300-watt for
each 15 to 60 volt 15 amp 8 240 volt 10
amp a really nice looking system
he'll min they did the best they could
considering how frozen everything was a
shingle they really had a project on
their hands here but looks beautiful now
we see my solar inverter this is a solar
edge 70 or se 7600 a it has a designed
output of 70 600 watts with a absolute
maximum it has I guess they said it has
like a limiter technology where limit
the output instead of just going until
thing burns up which is good of 8350
wats let's get a little closer here and
you can see I have color circuit coming
in and then that one down there goes out
to the grid and beaner which is
indirectly literally directly behind on
the other side of the wall this was
installed by next energy solutions and
if you are in Wisconsin Illinois Iowa
Minnesota give them a call they were the
absolute best price they did a great
install especially considering the weird
setup of my house extremely odd set
amount and yeah just give them a call

so long as we're at this point and I'm
gonna do something a little naughty in
beatrice i'm going to open it up without
shutting off the power sure you guys a
little bit on the inside there right now
we're generating 2500 watts and then
let's see what did we do today was
actually real quality this morning if
it's sunny out right now but the sun
certain set now at 2500 then 20.5
kilowatt today or kilowatt hour we did
389 this month less clip it's all coming
at six the system went live 430 3.9
and you're daring about four kilowatt
for a while ago and that was not too bad
but the sun's going down let's start
with down here came an energy so let's
take you can't go in there and I'm not
going to turn it up apparently there was
a safety feature and as I came in safety
feature you can't remove this cover if
the power is basically it's just a dying
toggle switch with the flower for but dt
incoming bus and convictions for the bc
outgoing please I just think that comfy
Oh car though so here we go let's get a
little closer here who were tripod and
this is the inside of my SolarEdge
inverter and compared to older units
from other companies from the past this
thing is really really tiny friend has I
think it was was at seven it was at
eight kilowatt solar system in his
backyard and his inverter is a lot
larger than this one so but their screen
goes live I have what is called a zigbee
attached and the zigbee module should be
this one right here and that goes over
to here yeah that's the transmitter it
comes down and out the antenna is all
the way up there on the top
and basically that pumps it to SolarEdge
so I can into a little receiver i have
connected to my Wi-Fi hotspot and that
lets me monitor pretty much live from
anywhere in the world as long as i got
internet connection bring it up here let
it load there we go there's today so as
you can see you can probably tell when
the cloud stopped and the Sun came out
we had like instant Wham although I
missed about thirty percent of the days
sunshine cuz the motor of Motoring the
morning gives the most direct light to
to the panel's so let's see what else we
got some ferrite cores I guess maybe to
reduce RF and the lines feedback of some
sort you got some of the capacitors up
there I see you to four or five of those
nice big capacitors really not too sure
what a lot of this stuff is and I'm not
going to touch it obviously read it
usually me or I guess it could be orange
depending on your lighting net using
genes high voltage don't touch me and as
you can see way in the top up there that
is where the magic happens that's all
where you're a little pixie you get
converted from direct evil little
currents too little Pixies of AC
goodness and fed back to the utility and
that is what the inside of a solar
inverter looks like an actuality let's
just compare it to a different kind of
AC burger not quite the same but right
here I have a 600 watt DC 12 volt DC to
AC inverter and this bugger is heavy
this whole SolarEdge inverter only
weighs about 25 26 pounds in fact most
of it is the giant heatsink which makes
up the entire back of the unit that is
what makes up the majority of it you got
enclosed parts that much and then you
got an additional that much of heat sink
behind it in this unit was is the lowest
capacity one they have that also
incorporates a cooling fan so it does
have a cooling fan here
and circulate the air inside the unit
and even a day like today and as summer
is slowly approaching I can see almost
on a day-by-day basis when we have a day
with no clouds I noticed the spike the
power output spike goes up maybe a
hundred or 200 watts every day when this
was first put live I could barely hit
1500 we're up to well today we hit just
a hair under 4,000 watts and the system
is a five point nine six so we'll just
round it will say it's a six kilowatt
system and although it due to the slope
of the roof which you can see in the
aerial shots so that's pretty much it
now might as well go take a little look
at the at the the meter outside said

here's the beer set up they had to
remove my single box in single meter pan
and convert it to a double meter pan the
left meter is the solar going back to
the grid the right meter is the house
disregard the thermal printed little
label there I just shove that on there
because we needed the labeling on there
on the spot for the inspector and then
when we got all the nice little placards
so it's a nice nice clean set up
although my house needs to be repainted
that's happening this summer and it
comes right on down goes through the
wall so we built a little little extra
capacity in to this system so i have
room to add a couple more kilowatts to
to this setup before i need to add or a
phrasal verbs i was watching on that i
can either upgrade the inverter once i
get to it hit the magic number and then
just have literally a higher capacity
inverter sittin here or i could add
another inverter next to it of course
there's upsides and downsides upside to
having a single inverter less wiring
overall lower costs I can sell this
inverter you know secondhand used to
somebody else and otherwise nice thing
about having more than one inverter of
course would be redundancy if one failed
at least I wouldn't be wasting all that
power I could still generate and sell
back from the other string of plans so
we've got next energy solutions i have a

interested but i had 15 estimates for
solar here out of 15 estimates there was
only one that lower cost than them and
there's came in lower only by a thousand
a different company came in lower by a
thousand dollars everybody else was at
least 5000 or higher well the other
company came in lower thousand dollars
cheaper but their system would have been
two kilowatt instead of six so four
thousand dollars more I got a six
kilowatt instead of a two kilowatt
system so I think this was a awesome
deal not even included them having to
drive like six hours to get to my house
to do the work
they had to make that drive a couple
times just due to how much of a pain in
the butt utilities can be dealing with
them got to go first you had to come in
it's all the panels and we gotta wait
for them to come out to do the meter put
them to metering in at least the hard
part's done now I'll have to do in the
future is add the panel's connect it up
to the inverter or switch out the
inverter and it can be done basically in
two days Dave one installation day to
inspection by the by the linesman and
utility so that's it next energy
