Wasp Deposits Parasitic Larvae Deep Inside Tree Trunk - Duration: 2:53.

The wasp's antennae scan every millimeter of bark.

For a very specific spot.

She's found it.

Now megarhyssa manoevres her ovipositor into position.

But it's much too long.

First it's coiled into a special flexible pouch in her abdomen.

Now the drill is at right angles to the wood.

She can bore straight through the bark.

With hi-tech precision she drills towards the larva of a wood wasp.

The megarhyssa pierces its body and injects her venom.

This won't kill the larva, but paralyzes it – for ever.

She retracts the ovipostor – just a little.

And then lays an egg directly on to the surface of the immobilized wood wasp larva.

Her egg turns into a larva, that will eat the paralyzed host bit by bit...

...until it's ready to emerge.

SEHBP Review April 2017 Part 2 - Duration: 5:28.

hi this is John DiMartino president of

Liberty benefit advisors specializing in

innovative strategies and collaborative

solutions for the New Jersey public

sector and this is a follow-up to our

last video about the SEHBP update so in

the last update we had mentioned that

claims reserves were at an all-time low

we want to take two seconds to review

with you exactly what that means so

think of claims reserves like a bank

account out of that bank account

anytime somebody gets sick that bank

account pays their medical claims for

them now what happens when that bank

account doesn't have any money is

anybody's guess so here's what's

happened in the public sector claim

should be at about six months worth of

what the total expected claims are a

quick example let's say you have 1

million dollars and expected claims you

might want to keep about five hundred

thousand dollars on hand to pay out

those claims over time however that

hasn't always been the case those claims

reserves have dwindled and we're to the

point now where and right there you can

see that's where the SHBP is two months

worth of claims reserves left and right

here that is the SEHBP with a startling

nine days worth of claims reserves left

the big question that I have to ask and

all of you should be asking as well as

what happens if there's a large claim or

multiple large claims and they need to

dip into that piggy bank and when they

do they don't find any money so what we

expect number one to happen is

potentially a very large increase right

if you need more money in the claimed

reserves charge more money and replenish

that account however that's not always

the case and has always been the case

with the SEHBP it can be kind of tricky

exactly what they do next it wouldn't be

unprecedented for them to do one of the

next two things first thing cut the

benefits this has happened before it

happens in some small way every year

they kind of trim the fat around the

edges but what we're looking at now is

similar to when we moved from the

indemnity plan over to the direct 10

we're looking at gardening with a

chainsaw instead of a pair of scissors

so be on the lookout for a large change

in benefits and the third thing and I'm

even a little worried about saying this

is borrowing from the pension plan but

as all of you are probably way too aware

that's like borrowing from a broken

piggy bank there's not exactly a whole

lot you can reach in and take out now

there are a few things that every

business administrator should be doing

right now first things first review your

budget if you get an increase above and

beyond the twelve to fifteen percent

that you may have budgeted for are you

able to take funds from anywhere else

and reallocate them if you are that may

be a pretty strong strategy if you can't

in your budget is super tight you may

have to be one of the people who needs

to have a SEHBP exit strategy and what

I mean by that is you may want to leave

the SEHBP in order to procure insurance

through the private market that's either

a carrier directly or one of the many

consortiums that exist in the

marketplace and by doing this you would

your timetable be right around the end

of August or early September when the

state plan releases its renewal it's

going to take you about 60 days to get

your claims experience from the SEHBP

and then from there you'll be able to

determine with the help of one of your

broker consultants exactly what your

options are the third thing and by far

one of the most interesting is checking

for SEHBP equivalent language in your

CBA and the reason I bring this up is

everyone's enjoyed seeing the love story

between the Union and the SEHBP unfold

over the years however much like this

love story they're in troubled water it

seems as though they may be tied to a

sinking ship and if that's the case your

negotiations just got a lot easier if

the state plan goes ahead and reduce the

benefits for you there's not a whole lot

you're going to have to do in order to

decrease the tax burden on the taxpayers

in the next year or so now on a more

serious note what we're seeing here is

unprecedented in any market place we're

seeing a failing pension system we're

seeing a state-run consortium that is

almost on its last limb and if we don't

get ahead of this there could be bigger

problems

the line I have the most pride being

able to represent a public sector that

is amongst the best in the nation

routinely ranked 1 or ranked number 2

and my biggest fear is that these

declines in pension and benefits are

going to lead to a brain drain where the

talent seeps out of New Jersey and goes

in some of the states of Pennsylvania or

New York so what we can do is we can

work together to try and decrease the

amount of liability that the taxpayers

have and that the employees have to pay

out of their own pocket for these

benefits so I'm going to be making a lot

more videos similar to this if you'd

like to stay up to date on them you can

subscribe to the YouTube channel you can

always connect with me on Facebook or

LinkedIn or you can visit me at my

website at www.lbanj.com looking forward to

meeting and hearing from all of you take care care

Cool Photoshop Effects [Welcome to Digital Art] ep 07 - Duration: 23:48.

Hey guys! How are you doing? Are you practicing enough? ^w^

I hope you do!

Have you ever finished a drawing and then thought

"Ah... I feel like I can make it look better, more vivid, more magic..."

but you don't really know how to do it? ;w;

Fear no more! In today's video I'll show you some of the things I use to make the final edits to my artworks

and make them look even better.

Just so you know it, I usually make the final edits on Photoshop

the one I'm using right now is the CS6 version.

If you don't have Photoshop

for whatever reasons or you have a different version

don't worry about it

There's many programs out there like SAI, Clip Studio, Medibang

and a long etcetera...

that have similar options. You just need to be patient and carefully search for them.

Since every program is different everything is also placed differently.

Okay, for today's demonstration I'll use this picture you're seeing right now.

It's an original character from a deviantART artist called Naomochi

I'll leave you the link to her page in the description box so you can go visit her art too ♥

Now let's start!

Whenever I don't know where to start editing my artwork to make them look better

I start by fixing the colors.

If you're using PS too you'll find all the options we'll use by clicking on this little button at the bottom corner.

You can also find them all by going to Image ---> Adjustments

they're basically all the ones displayed in this list.

But this button is supposed to be more comfortable to use but that's up to you.

So... what can we do to?

To edit the colors we've got several options

I usually start with Color Balance

With this, there should appear some kind of box or window here or somewhere else in the screen.

with the following options.

What do they do?

Let's zoom in a bit more so you can see it better...

Basically we'll tell PS to change the overall colors

to something more red or cyan or magenta or whatever you prefer.

For example, let's say I'm getting the feeling that this picture is too warm

and I wanna change it to some more cold colors.

Then we can just drag the bars to the cyan side and the blue side.

Gonna hide the layer effect so you can see the difference.

These are the normal colors.

And this way they look darker

I mean colder!

Or the other way around; let's say you think your picture is too cold

like it's boring and lacks of life.

Then we can add some more red, yellow and magenta.

See?

Now it looks even warmer! ♥

We've still got other ways to fix the colors.

Instead of using a Color Balance layer

we can make a Levels layer.

This one works in a similar way.

Here you have to choose one of the color channels

Let's try with Red.

And then drag those little triangles at the bottom and move them to another place.

This way we're making it look more blue

If we move the other triangle

we'll be turning the piece into something more yellowish or orangeish

Let's now try on the Green color channel.

Draging this triangle will turn the picture more magenta.

or pinky

If we move the other triangle it will turn more greenish or yellowish.

Same thing happens with the Blue color channel.

There it turns more orangeish

and there it becomes more blueish or purple.

If you choose to edit all the channels at the same time instead

then you'll be playing the light and contrasts of the picture.

Now let's see a 3rd way to edit colors.

--let me delete this --

There, we can use the Intensity option (sorry if it's not the exact name in English).

Let's see what this one does.

I normally just use the top bar

If you play with the Saturation bar, as you can guess, we'll be adding a lot of saturation to the colors.

See? They look a bit radioactive...

And moving it to the other side will turn it grey.

Intensity does a similar effect but it's not as hard as the Saturation bar.

Check this out. Moving the Intensity bar completely to the right

will give more saturation and life to the colors

but not as much as doing it with the Saturation bar.

Check the difference with the normal colors

See? We've just added a bit more life to the overall colors.

And if we move the Intensity bar to the left

everything turns more pastelish, like if it was an old photo.

But as you see, even with the Intensity at its lowerest value

we can still get the idea of the colors underneath

That's the difference with the Saturation bar

since this one will take away the colors completely.

Let's move to the next way to edit the colors

this one it's called Selective Color Correction (or something the like).

-- gonna delete the Intensity layer --

As you can guess by its name, Selective Color Correction will let you correct the colors

individually. Meaning editing each one of them at a time aproximately.

Let's see, when we open this layer the default selected color should be Red

so if I start draging those bars I can tell PS to add, for example, more black to the red tones.

And as you see all the colors that has a big percentage of red have become darker

If I drag the bar to the other side everything will become more pale since we're taking away the black.

Instead of black we can choose to add more yellow or to substract it

See? Taking away some of the yellow percentage will make the image purplish

Let's try with the Magenta bar! If we add more magenta de picture looks super red now

maybe even a bit purplish

And you can do the same to the rest of the colors.

Just choose another one from the list

and edit it to your liking.

Next thing I usually edit along with colors is the light

and the overall contrast of the lights we've got in the picture.

-- zooming out a little bit --

To edit the lights I use the Light/Contrast layer option.

There we can tell PS to add more brightness to the picture

and more contrast, or even both things at the same time.

On the opposite if you think your artwork is too pale, with too much bright colors

and what you wish is to turn this light a bit down

just drag the Brightness bar to the left to make it darker.

You can also play with the Contrast bar to make the colors not hurt your eyes too much.

Also pay attention to this little box under the bars that says "Use Legacy" or a similar word.

I have it uncheched at the moment so let's click to see what happens.

The bright/contrast effect is a bit different now.

I don't know exactly how to explain the difference (you all know I'm bad at some explanations xD)

Just test it on your own and you'll see the light effects are a bit different this way.

What's next? Uhm...

Ah by the way! Using the Levels option you can also edit the contrast a little bit

specially if you edit the colors through the RGB channel.

There's also 2 other cool options called Curves and Exposition you can use to play with the color contrast

but I don't really use them because I still don't understand how they work very well

Basically you add or substract points to create a curve that will affect the brightness and contrast of the picture

keep trying and the overall looking changes

As I said I don't quite understand this option so I rarely use it xD

but maybe you'll understand it better than me!

Aside from all these options to edit the colors and lights

we can also play with the layer propierties.

Just double-click on the layer

Reminder: I'm using Photoshop for this sample! I don't know how this works on other programs.

There we've got a bunch of effects we can add to what's already drawn on the layer we've selected.

I like to use the Stroke one a lot

as you see it does add an extra outline to the layer

We can also play with its width, opacity, color

--let's try some other colors--

I usually keep it white to create some kind of separation between the character and the colors from the background

that way the character pops a bit more so it becomes the center of attention of the piece.

Sometimes I also like to use the Drop Shadow effect

Name is pretty self-explanatory; it will create a shadow effect under the layer.

We can play with the distance of that shadow,

that way you can decide if you want the shadow to look very far or very near to what's on the layer.

You can also play with the Spread bar

--uhm, let me zoom in so you can see it better --

Playing with the Spread bar will make the shadow have blurrier edges or more defined edges.

We can also play with the Size bar

The bigger the Size of the shadow is

the blurrier it will become.

So let's say you want a pretty big shadow but with hard edges

that's when the Spread option comes in handy!

Keep playing with the distance ~~

And play with the Angle of the shadow as well!

There the light angle would be at the top left so the shadows fall to the bottom right of the picture.

And we can rotate it

til we've got something that fits the illustration.

Of course we can also change the shadow's color

Let's change it from black to purple for example.

We can also change the Blending mode of the shadow, it is set as Multiply by default.

Uhm... you can't tell the difference now but...

Let's imagine we've got some pattern or drawing behind the character (yup, random weird strokes xD)

If the shadow effect is set as Multiply

will let you see what's underneath the shadow.

But if I set the blending mode to Normal and full opacity

you cannot see anymore what's under the shadow effect.

So you should keep the Shadow effect always set as Multiply but who knows?

You can try other modes as well and eventually find a cool effect!

Another cool effect I like to use is called Outer Glow.

-- Uhm, it'll be difficult for you guys to see it now... --

--let's put some darker color on the background... --

There we go. As the name says this option will add an extra glow effect around what's in the layer

It's set as Screen blending mode by default

But again you can freely change it to Normal or another mode, change it's opacity

I don't have a specific rule, I just go with what I need on every illustration

It's similar to the Shadow effect, we can make the size bigger through the Size bar

and play with the Spread bar to keep the edgies more refined or blurrier.

I'd recommend playing with both things at the same time.

Like... making the size of the glow super small

but then the edges very defined to make it look almost like the Stroke effect.

Just play and combine them :)

As you see there's still a lot of effects on the list

The ones I've explained are just my favorites

Feel free to try to rest on your own and discover what they do! ^w^

Oh but we're not done yet! I've still got another trick hidden ~~

You'll see it's super easy.

-- let me change this layer to white... --

--there you'll see it better --

The trick is as follows:

Duplicate the layer of the character

Character/object or whatever thing to where you want to put this effect I'm going to show you.

Though I mostly use it on the characters.

As I was saying: Duplicate the layer then go to Filter --> Blur ---> Gaussian Blur

Other kinds of blur may work as well, I just prefer using this one

Now...

Here you can see a little preview of the blur quantity we'll be adding

The thing is to make blurry enough so it's not nitid

but not too much that can't even tell what's in the drawing.

See? Now there's too much blur I can't even understand the picture.

So the thing is to make a bit blurry

How much exactly?? That will only depend on your personal preference.

The guideline would be as I said; make it blurry but keep the picture a bit recognizable.

Then hit the OK button

And we've got this. I know I know! We cannot leave the picture like that!

There we can do 2 things.

1 - Put the blurry layer under the original layer

And you'll see we've created some blurry extra edges

similar to the outer glow or the shadow effect.

But it's a bit different since this extra edges have the same color as the layer of the character

because we used the same layers.

In case you cannot tell the difference yet let me hide and unhide the effect.

It's a very subtle change.

2 - keep the blurry layer at the top of the original layer

but now lower its opacity

-- gonna try with 30% --

Pay attention, I'm gonna hide and unhide it for you

See? We've created kind of a dreamy effect this way.

No need to stop here tho!

After lowering the opacity we can also play with the layer mode

We can try with Overlay

There... It kind of gives more life to the picture.

Or Soft light mode

Or Hard light

Or Darker color

See the difference?

Or Lighter color

See?

Always remember to play with the layer's opacity too to make the picture look exactly how you want it to look.

Also you don't need to stick to just one of those modes!

You can duplicate the layer, make it blurry, set it as lighter color

And then do the same but now choose a different mode like Overlay for example

that way you can mix different effects at the same time.

After all these explanations I'd like to add just a couple of things.

1 - You don't really need to use all these effects always.

I usually only use a few of them

So I test some of them and I only keep the ones I like the most

or the ones I think that fits with the kind of picture I want to achieve.

And 2:

There's a whole lot of more effects and tricks you can do

don't be scared to play with every tool, blending mode and effects you may find.

Experimentation is the key to learn new stuff.

If you have any other cool tricks or effects feel free to leave it in the comments section!

After $1 Million Gift, Dow Asks White House To Ignore Science - Duration: 3:22.

A few weeks ago the Environmental Protection Agency announced that it was going to go ahead

and allow companies to use a pesticide known as chlorpyrifos, which is manufactured mostly

by Dow Chemical.

Now this move came after decades of arguments within the agency after looking at information

showing that this pesticide was harmful to animals, was harmful to the environment, and

it was harmful to human beings.

Basically, any living thing, plant, animal, human, whatever that came in contact with

this stuff, suffered very serious, negative side effects.

But here's the thing.

Dow Chemical, a few months ago, during Trump's inauguration, gave one million dollars to

the Donald Trump Inaugural Fund.

They helped plan the party.

On top of that, the president and CEO of Dow Chemical is actually one of Donald Trump's

closest advisors.

Of course, the EPA is going to go ahead and throw away decades worth of science to promote

Donald Trump's friend, who gives him lots of money.

Here's the thing.

Of the 1800 different animal species that this pesticide was tested on, every single

one of them showed negative detrimental side effects, showing that this thing causes tumors,

causes cancers, causes abnormal growth.

Every single one.

In the human studies that were conducted, children exposed to even a tiny amount of

chlorpyrifos were shown to have abnormal brain development afterwards.

Essentially, this stuff screws with brain development in children and ruins their entire

lives.

All it took, after decades of science showing this, was one million dollars.

I mean Dow Chemical is a multi-billion dollar company.

They only had to spend one million to buy Donald Trump and Scott Pruitt, the head of

the EPA?

What a bargain, right?

Because now this chemical is going to be sprayed on all of us by the gallon.

This is going to cause enormous side effects in the human population, in the environment,

in animals, in anything that comes in contact with it.

Dow Chemical knew that and now they're asking the EPA to, "Please go ahead and set those

studies aside.

Ignore them, because we, Dow Chemical, think that they're flawed.

Not that they are, but we think they are, and we're giving you money.

We're in the President's ear every day, and we're going to get this shit approved so we

can start dumping it from coast to coast in the United States."

That's how democracy works folks.

You got a million dollars?

Hey, great.

Give it to a politician, and you can start dumping poison on everyone

in this country.

Let's Talk | S-Town Podcast - Duration: 8:24.

Hi everyone. I'm Rincey and this is Rincey Reads.

Today I'm going to be

talking about S-town. This is a podcast

that was recently put out by the same

people who put together like This

American Life and serial. I'll have a link

to it down below in case you guys are

interested. I listened to it a couple of

weeks ago and I've been thinking about

it basically ever since. I have a lot of

thoughts and a lot of feelings and they

are complicated. So let's just get into it.

Oh before I get started, I'm just

going to say that if you haven't

listened to s town in its entirety,

there will be spoilers for the entire

thing here because I think a lot of what

I want to talk about also happens in

like the last couple of episodes. So if

you don't want to be spoiled on S-town,

I recommend like turning this off, coming

back to it when you have finished. Or if

you don't plan on finishing or you don't

care if you get spoiled, you can continue watching.

So like I said, my thoughts on S-Town are

really complicated. It's one of those

podcasts that by the time I was done

with it made me feel really uncomfortable.

And I've been thinking

about this a lot in terms of the

podcasts that have been coming out

recently. Let me just say I listened to

both seasons of Serial and the first

season of Serial made me slightly

uncomfortable as well. I think it was

less the podcast though and more the way

people were talking about the podcast.

The first season of Serial dealt with

the death of a young woman and someone

who is currently in jail for that

crime and the way people talked about it

was just so like dismissive of it.

And the way that we talk about these

podcasts, we talk about them as forms of

entertainment but because these are

actual people with actual situations,

it's not just entertainment. I feel the

same way about like the news and I feel

the same way about like reality

television. Like we create these things

that are meant to be entertaining on a

certain level but they involve real

people and real situations and their real

lives and we turn these people into like

caricatures almost and we take away all

of the complexities and the nuances that

might belong in them and we make them

into stereotypes and we sort of like

gawk at them from a distance. and it makes, again,

it just makes me really uncomfortable.

So I started listening to this podcast

because they pitched it as a true-crime

podcast in the beginning. They talked

about how this guy contacted them from

the small town in Alabama and there was

some like corruption and crime that was

happening in there. And so I was

interested in that because that's a idea

and story that I'm always really

interested in. This ideas like corruption

happening amongst officials and police

officers and things like that and trying

to uncover the truth and bring some

justice about. By the end of the eight

episodes, it was seven or eight episodes

I can't remember now. I think it was seven.

It turns into something completely

different. And in the beginning I was ok

with it because I like sort of character

driven stories in my books and in my

television shows and all this stuff.

I like stuff that focuses on the

complexity of people and it seemed like

S town was going to make that turn after

the major death happens and after they

realized that like this murder wasn't

really a murder and things like that.

I thought that they were going to talk

about the complexities of just

small-town life and the people that live

in this town. But it turned into

something else. The fact that this

journalist Brian felt comfortable

delving into the sexual orientation of a

man who had recently passed away and

hadn't necessarily provided

information about that aspect of his

life was really uncomfortable for me.

The fact that they set up a lot of questions

that didn't provide a lot of answers but

I think left room for the listener to

make judgments on them. I also think it's

really uncomfortable to look at people

who live in these sort of small southern

American towns and especially if someone

who like lives in Chicago, I live in the

north, I live in literally like the exact

opposite of what those towns are, it felt

very easy for it to turn into like

making those small towns into a zoo and

making those people into like the

animals at a zoo who are meant to

entertain me and provide me with some giddiness

before moving on with my life and I

can sort of like cast my judgment upon

them because they aren't alike to me and

they think a different way and act a

different way. And yeah it was weird. um

but I also couldn't stop listening to it

which i think is probably mostly on me.

But it was a really compelling podcast.

But i think what made me the most

disappointed was the fact that they

created like these seven episodes in

total and just drop them all at once.

So they didn't have to deal with the

real-time aspect or the real-time

reactions while making the podcast like

Serial had to deal with especially in

their first season. You know there was

real information that was coming out

while they were creating all of these

episodes and they had to adjust episodes

in order to accommodate for that new

information and all of this stuff.

This was clearly different in that they just

dropped the episodes so they knew

exactly what they were putting out and

they knew what the full arc was going to e

And so the fact that they chose this

arc to tell felt a little bit weird

because there are so many like gray

areas that they go into. And they

acknowledge it at a certain point and

they come up with their own

justifications but I don't think their

justifications are right or I just don't

agree with them at all. There was a

really great article on Vox that someone

shared with me and so I'm going to link

it down below and they talk about this

really well as well. It basically says

like s town is a great podcast but that

doesn't mean that it should have been made.

I've been think about this a lot

because there's this podcast, I had

uncomfortable feelings about Serial and

then there was like what I think is the

pinnacle of uncomfortable podcast which

is the missing richard simmons podcast.

Where this guy without any prompting,

without any sort of encouragement for

Richard Simmons, just goes looking for

him. And I think that in this age that

we're living in, we believe that anyone's

lives are somehow belong to us. Like we

don't have any right to delve into

anyone's private life without their

consent or their rights and so things

like missing Richard Simmons where he's

trying to search out for this man who

doesn't want to be found or purposely

like removed himself from the public

life for a reason, made me really, really

uncomfortable. And I think that this s town

podcast kind of did the same thing where

they started delving into parts of

John's private life that he didn't

necessarily want or we don't know if he

wanted out there. And because he's passed

away there's no way to really reconcile

with that and i think that i don't know

maybe i just give too much reverence to

people who passed away but at a certain point

I'm just like, they're not alive anymore

to give their wishes so how are we

supposed to handle that. I would

always edge as a side of caution. But

anyways those are by just complicated

thoughts on s town. It was great

storytelling but I also kind of don't

know if it should have been made just

like the Vox I article said. So let me

know what you guys think down below.

I know a lot of people really enjoyed it

because again like I said it's really,

really well done. It's really compelling

but doesn't make it right. So it's one of

those things I've been like literally

wrestling with and thinking about

constantly since I've listened to it.

I also listened to it all in one day so I

think that was part of the problem for

me at least as well. Like I just dove in

and listened to all seven episodes almost

straight and at the end of it I was just

like ah man I don't know that was

something I should have done. I think

that if there was more space between the

podcast episodes like if I had to wait a

week, I think there would have been a

point where I stopped listening. But

I didn't and this is where we are now. So

Again let me know down below with you

guys out of Serial, and I will -- not serial,

s town -- and I will talk to you guys next time. Bye.

You Won't Believe Who Donated $5 Million To Donald Trump's Inauguration

Sheldon Adelson donated $5 million to Donald Trumps inaugural committee, making it the

single largest donation ever made to an incoming presidents inauguration.

The 83-year-old casino owner and billionaire who endorsed Trump for president last

May wrote a whopping seven-figure check, the New York Times reported Wednesday.

Trumps inaugural committee raised $106.7 million, shattering fundraising records and

doubling the $53 million Barack Obama raised in 2009.

The January ceremony included dozens of events over a six-day period.

Adelson wasnt the only casino magnate who donated to the committee.

Phil Ruffin and Steve Wynn also gave nearly $2 million combined.
