Hello everybody, Janet Beckers here and
it's wonderful to have you here and
listen to a beautiful case study from
the gorgeous Heather Powell. Hello Heather, how are you?
Hi Janet, good! Janet: Wonderful to welcome
you here. Now Heather is the creator of
the retire to a life puter love video
course that's just recently published on
the udemy marketplace
where some of the biggest names in huge
industries are actually running a lot of
their programs through. So Heather's just
recently launched that program and I
invited her to come and talk to us about
the process that she's gone through to
be able to get to that stage to have a
video program that she's been able to
have such great responses so we're going
to hear a little bit more about that um
Emma it is so good to have you can you
tell us a little bit about yourself so
who is it that you helped what's what's
your passion I help people who are who
are looking for a life that they love
that is rewarding and fulfilling and
enjoyable and especially on been
focusing on people who are retiring or
recently retired and some have been
adrift not quite sure now the world's
done a course correction and there's
somewhere else so sometimes having
guidance just even a little bit of
guidance makes all the difference for
them yeah absolutely cuz I like this
whole idea of you retire and then you
know ten years later you dropped it used
to haven't like that now it's like
another whole life and adventure that
you kept things and as your focus is
being able to help people to be able to
absolutely love that that next
transition state phase yeah the game is
excellent so tell me you started
studying video marketing with myself and
with popcorn I want to go now what drew
you to wanting to learn about video and
be happening I've got a lot of knowledge
in my head Janet and putting it out
there but other
people and when I started looking at
with obvious that video was the way and
for somebody that had never even made a
video on her phone much less and
anything bigger than that and who
usually ran away from a camera that was
pretty for lunch so I went I look for
somewhere that could help me start from
the very beginning and go right through
and that's how I landed in your program
yes and so when you start that no video
experience at all um bit scary very nice
Creek and I'm just seeing you now the
thing i love about doing these kind of
study interviews on video is you get to
actually see how comfortable people are
in front of the camera and you've got
this beautiful presence of you you will
love you quite relaxed um I can't yeah
it's obviously something you're not
scared about doing you're not
self-conscious not no more oh I've made
so many two minute videos over and over
to repeat until I got it comfortable
yeah that's a really good tips oh yeah
that's a big part of that what you teach
isn't it is you're not gonna run film
yeah so you tell that so tell me ito
doing the videos over and over and over
again so you've been how to tell me how
you've been using using video in what
you do I think I've taken what I knew
and turned it into online programs and
just why they've gone up into the udemy
marketplace and into my own school now
and that way people can access both the
free real simple self-directed programs
and more if they want and I've learnt
heaps even just the technical things who
have had you put how you put a camera
together and how you get lights and it
dries so much difference to what I to
the quality that when I did submit them
to you to me because they quality vet
things they accept for it which was
really nice so yeah yeah yeah I know
feedback that I've had before with you
to me if you're not familiar with the
upmarket place it's a place where you
can go and get free or low-cost training
programs in such a wide wide range of
things some of you know some of the
world's most well-known leaders in the
whole cross-section of genres are there
as well as people who are unknown yes um
or in that place but they they not that
people not on the quality of their
videos so huge congrats at first you
know first go that you were accepted it
straight away from with your videos and
now the thing that I also liked about
the unity so you've made the one that
you could and as a free course is that
right yes I've started with a free one
just that I was really testing whether
anyone was interested as I think it is a
way to find out and within the first
four days 391 people enrolled so the HST
that is fantastic so as I it's a unique
way of doing this building even though
they're not getting onto your email list
they are people who then get to have
contact with you to be able to leave
comments it is it to hear your upsells
of hippies my whips here's how I can
help you um and within four days you've
already gotten only 400 people yes
fantastic and it was great to actually
really good idea hmm well it wasn't
quite how I intend what I intended but
it was it's cut it's given me that
confidence that the the quality was
quite good when I wasn't sure because I
know you Paul this pool is very generous
he helped me all the way with little bit
some pieces and all the different things
that I didn't know he helped me with so
its external validation of the quality
that we created that was nice and and
it's also validation that I've got a
topic that is of interest to people and
yeah vaguely important absolutely do you
have a thing that I fuck
really encouraging hello it is because
you're you want your target marketing
that you're you know you've retired you
know you've got to that sort of that
that time in your life where is a lot of
people walk I'll look I'm too old to
learn this stuff that's for those young
people and here you are somebody that's
just gone from not buying anything on
this to that some people would go look
you know I'm not even going to worry
about learning about that stuff now and
here you are you've mastered it
difficult a lot of expertise incredible
comfort and you know and you know that
you've had that support along the way so
congratulations to us fantastic really
encouraging yeah so if people would like

people who are thinking about using
video as part of their business for
their video and marketing or like you
I've gone use it for your marketing and
then gone even further to be able to
build it for for making programs as well
any last ideas or thoughts for people
yeah it's an odd one Janet but it's
about um being uncomfortable in front of
the camera and I used to turn and run
away whereas I realized that it doesn't
look like my image of me video I'm
seeing myself as other people see me
whereas my image of me is from the
mirror that I look in normally and right
there difference there's a jarring so I
not good so I have learned a lot more
self-acceptance of me the
I'm okay because everybody seen me like
this for years and it's a really
beautiful one I've gotta share was a
chap who was learning about video
promotion and he when he started out he
got an awful shock and he said I look
like a bald troll if he can look like a
bold troll to himself and accept himself
then I can accept myself how I am so I
saw chuckles really good so yeah there's
a great chip to end on that's really
powerful thank you so much thank you
