Greek Casual Food Bangkok - Big Fat Greek Meal @ Avra - Duration: 10:36.
Sawadee Ka from Thailand
Good evening from Greece (kalispéra sas apo tin Ellada"
and welcome to our channel.
no, we are not in Greece. We are in Bangkok
and today we are going to have a beautiful Greek meal!
[Music]
Thank You!
(efcharistoume para poly) Thank you very much!
as we used to say in Greece
where I've been living for seven
years. We decide to come to Bangkok
and check out this very Greek restaurant
cause I'm very very curious to find taste
and the scents of half of my youth!
our first "meze" (starter) has arrived and we will
this is spinach pie in a crispy dough
called in Greek: Spanakotyropita
I will try it for you, let's how is made and what's inside
you see is a little long pie
I will cut and see the inside
it's so crunchy, you heard it?
dough is very soft. Here is lot of spinach
and I see I think that is cheese inside
it's very nice impression taste of
spinach, I feel some herbs
inside. I think it's like something
national traditional Greek herbs
feel a bit the cheese but not very
fatty and not heavy
Basically "Spanako" means spinach
and "Tyropita" is the type of cakes
lovely spinach, feta cheese and I'm
dipping this is a nice Tzatzikli sauce
that's on the side!
Saganaki cheese arrived, made with Halloumi cheese
Come to see, I will dress it with a little bit of lemon
like everything fried basically in
Greece or grilled we love to put lemon
on it, and let's cut it and see
there you go can you see the cheese inside?!
and let's taste
oh it is nice the breaded part is very
thin and very soft so it's not oily at
all it's not that crispy either and the
cheese is still in between is not very
melting it's not very hard like the Feta.
I sometimes prefer when there is
something like a Emmental, cause are more
fusing but is very nice!
What can be better than cheese? Fried cheese!
now my turn to try it.
this is so tasty. Cheese a bit salty but
not much like Feta. Not very melting.
You can still feel structure and chewy
Our Saganaki cheese was served with
interesting sauce that smells of citrus
I see lot of zests
from lemons, oranges...
so let's dip it, I put a lot on the cheese
...and let's try
[Music]
this is so aromatic!
It's sweet, there is scent of spices.
Citrus, and something
that gives a bit of sourness
perfect match for fried cheese!
One of my preferable dish: Dolmadakia
or Doma. Which is grape leaves, stuffed with
rice, mixed with Greek herbs.
usually served with Tzatziki sauce.
Let me try and tell you how it is...
You can see a huge grape leave
it's usually a little bit marinated
before cooking, and inside
It's even crunchy, I can feel it while cutting it
inside there is rice,
greens and herbs. I'll dip it in
Tzatziki sauce, love this sauce
a huge bite!
an amazing vegetarian dish,
a bit sour
Tzatziki sauce is basically: plane yogurt,
with garlic, greens (mint leaves)
and lemon juice.
(Simon singing) "Ax Koritsi Mou"...I feel a bit
sadness of Greece, look the quantity of Tzatziki
time to bite!
"Kali Orexi" Good appetite!
Here is Moussaka, another traditional
Greek dish, we have a vegetarian one
here the aubergines,
in between are other vegetables
and a lot of cheese on top.
What I love from Greek kitchen, is the
perfect match of saltiness in the dishes
it comes from cheese, ascent of aubergines,
I feel tomatoes, onions and mushrooms.
Come close Yulia, let's show what it is:
so basically this is very similar dish
to the "Melanzane Parmigiana", so it's
basically like a layers of aubergines
with a lot of cheese, normally stuffed with
meat or in this case just vegetable and
tomato sauce. My time to taste it,
one of the most famous dish of Greece.
Oh yeah! The aubergines are nicely
cooked, no melting but still a bit crunchy
still feel a bit the skin, a bit the
texture at the bite, a very rich dish
...and garlic, a lot of garlic!
What we have in here is the Lamb
Kleftiko, basically it means the lamb of
the thief, cause the story says
said that the recipe was stolen by the
shepherds on the mountains...or something
similar that now I can't remember. It's
lamb, in a pie, and it's supposed to
have a lot of onions, let's taste it!
Oh Yeah! This is nice!
It's pure lamb chunks,
the fat almost melted during the cooking in
the oven, so the fat is basically in the
juice mostly, not on the meat itself
and it's very very tasty you feel a
background of onions: not that much.
it's beautiful,l and I will try a little
bit with this pie now, I will put on
the spoon a slice of the pie
[Music]
Oh Yeah! It's so rich!
and a lot of Oregano, for Mediterranean
person, Oregano's always beautiful!
Oh!!
so tasty, so tender so juicy!
so so flavorful: it's simply amazing!
We were supposed to end our
lunch with of Raki or Rachi
as we used to call it down in Crete.
Instead we got some Ouzo.
an anis drink, similar to Pastis.
you have to drink it, as you can see, it's
see-through,
and now when I will put a little bit of
ice, and the color, slowly slowly
in contact with the water will
change and it's supposed to become as
you can see: white. A perfect refreshment
to clean the mouth, especially after this
beautiful beautiful food we had today.
To all the Greek friends that I miss: "Yamas Philos!"
I'm supposed to throw the glass
but I think they're gonna kick me out if
(Simon singing, again!) A very beautiful
Greek lunch, in the center of Bangkok.
traditional Greek food with a touch of
lightness. Yes, very easy for beginners
and for Greek lovers. So, if you would
like to try for the first time Greek
food we really suggest you to come here,
either if you know Greek food that you
are missing it.
And remember, stay hungry, stay foodish!
"kalispera" Good evening!

National Bike to Work Day | VEDIM - Duration: 5:26.
Hello, I'm Rogan and welcome to VEDIM day 19! *cheering* I made it this far!
Today is Bike to Work Day. It usually happens on the third Friday of May, which is today.
In the past to now, usually the biking associations will be the ones that encourage people to do this.
As you could probably see from the beginning of this video, I obviously need more practice on a bike.
I...haven't been on a bike for a year, since I left Denmark.
Part of that is because I...to be honest, I don't feel comfortable on bikes here.
Not as comfortable as I felt in Denmark.
The reason is because anywhere there, people there respect bikers.
While here... [puts hands up in the air]
Even Copenhagen, their biggest city, I felt fine on a bike there in the middle of the city on the road with cars and everything.
Why? They have real bike lanes, they have lights for bikes only, and I really enjoyed biking there.
Because people there respect you. And even if they see you seem to be struggling, it's fine, not a problem.
They give you plenty of space.
Those bike lanes are usually at least wide enough for two, even three bikers.
Usually just two though, just plenty of room.
And what makes their bike lanes different than the ones here in the US:
Here, bike lanes usually are just a line showing that this side is for bikes and that side is for cars.
Not really...giving bikers a sense of safety.
And those lanes, cars will often drive on those lanes if they're planning to turn right. You're not supposed to do that.
While in Denmark, Copenhagen, their road for cars and for bikes is a different level, by maybe two, three inches.
It's high enough that cars will feel it if they move that way, and low enough that bikes can easily get off if needed for whatever reason.
There's that split, then again for pedestrians.
So three different levels of road/lanes.
That's nice! And for the stoplights at big intersections, they will have lights for bikes too.
Because sometimes, it's not safe for bikes to go if cars need to turn right, so there are lights for bikes only.
Sometimes, you will see only bikes moving around, then cars while bikes have to stop.
That's really nice. I just wish that the US had more respect for bikers in general really.
If that was the case, I probably would feel more comfortable using bikes around here but...I don't.
Part of that is because there are laws for bikers that so many people don't even know about.
Recently, today I saw an article about something like seven different laws that bikers follow and drivers don't know about
and think bikers are wrong but the bikers are actually in the right.
Some examples are like on the road, if there's two bikers abreast and taking over the road.
They are allowed to do that. Because that gives them more visibility plus safety.
And cars can't pass, they're not allowed to pass.
And many drivers ignore the minimum three feet distance (from the biker).
And...really, three feet...Ehhh. That makes me feel a little bit uncomfortable.
Because a lot of drivers don't...really think about three feet, and even three feet, that's... [indicates distance]
This is really more of a rambling video today, I didn't really have a plan, information. Just this. Enjoy!
And I'm really enjoying the nice day out here in my hammock!
I know this is set up wrong, shh.
That's because these are rafters, so...It's not really tree to tree. If it was tree-to-tree, it would be more flat.
But this is not. So [shrugs].
I tend to sit cross-legged anyway, so it's fine.
Anyway.
