There is a friendly company of mine
It makes custom male and female shirts
It's name is MTMSHIRT
This company carries out all my auxiliary operations: accounting, support services, shipping, etc.
The only task of mine is to make cutting boards
The main feature of this website is a Shirt Designer
You can choose a lot of options and see the result at the same time
Finally you can add your individual measures and get a custom shirt
You can choose fabric
volume, type of collar, sleeve, etc.
You can wish some parts of your shirt to be made of another fabric
Many kinds of buttons and threads
You can order standard or individual embroidery
And at the end it possible to choose the shirt of standard size or create your own profile
I want to make wooden name plates of this company
I will use 2" thick lumber
padauk, ash, wenge, walnut, cherry, movingui and linden
The thickness of the name plates will be 5 mm
The table saw belt was torn
Aleksei is trying to replace it
I decided to make a template to engrave many blanks at once
First I will engrave the top side, then turn the blanks over and mill out the name plates
I have to drill holes in the base to screw the blanks
This is a jig to make holes in the blanks
The distance between holes must be 580 mm
I will screw the screws between the blanks to hold them better
I can place seven blanks on the base
Eight name plates on each blank
So 56 pieces to engrave at once
I will use a small engraving bit - 25 degree, 0.2 mm tip
I made a test engraving and found that my new zero button was set incorrectly
One more problem - the plywood sheet is of uneven thickness
So the depth of engraving is also uneven
This is important because the set depth of engraving is only 0.5 mm
I have to make the this plywood sheet fully flat
The difference is very big: 1.46 on the right and 5.19 on the left. About 3.5 mm
This is an ordinary construction plywood
This in not important in construction, but must be corrected for the accurate projects
The time of milling is about one hour
I finished the milling of the first side
I got 160 blanks
Eight name plates on each blank
So 1280 name plates total
I will turn each blank over to mill the other side
I will mill out the pocket for the magnet to use this name plate as a fridge magnet
I will use 2 mm end mill bit
The feature of this bit is chips down
I will not make tabs on each name plate
This is a hard work to remove them after
Downcut bit will press the chips in the groove and will hold the name plate in the blank without tabs
You can see that all name plates are at the same place
Chips up bit would throw the name plate out of the blank
and leave the mark on the name plate
I have small magnets to insert into the pockets
You can see that all name plates are at the same place
I spent two days for milling
5 gallon pail
This is a result after milling
I broke four bits during milling of wenge - very hard wood
The finishing is the next stage
I have to sand the edges and oil the name plates
I have about 1300 pieces
It is almost impossible to do this manually
Long time and bad quality
So I will use vibratory deburring machine for sanding and finishing
Here it is
It is used only for processing the metal items
Sometimes I use it for finishing the wooden items
It is not possible to use ceramic or stone pieces for wood
The stone dust will fill the pores of wood
So I use the wooden pieces for finishing the wood
I have many wooden cubes made mainly of ash
I will replace stone pieces with the wooden ones
The sanding of the wood will be made by the wood
Finally I will add oil for finishing the wooden blanks
It is necessary to remove the stone pieces and wash the machine
It is a dirty work especially for Aleksei
It is time to fill the machine with the wooden cubes
These wooden cubes will sand the blanks and round the corners
Also the wooden cubes make micro bumps that makes the wooden blanks more dense and smooth
It is a long process, several hours
You can visually control the level of sanding
This will take about 4-5 hours
These blanks were sanded well after 3 hours
I am ready to oil them, but there is a lot of dust
This dust must be removed
This is a closer view
The sanding during the longer time can make dents on the soft parts of the wood
It is necessary to use the grower washers because the nuts will unscrew very quickly
The dust is so fine, that the cyclone can't catch it
The dust was mainly removed
It is impossible to remove all dust because the sanding produces it again and again
I will add the oil now
I experimented for a long time and chose this oil
It is better to add solvent for the first coat
I will turn the machine on and will pour the oil right in the bowl of the machine
It is shaking!
Papa, I don't hear anything!
Why it is shaking?
The oil is almost dried after 4 hours
But the machine must work till the oil is fully dried
Otherwise the blanks will stick together
I will turn the machine on for two hours and we will go to the football school
The blanks are fully dried after two additional hours
I will add the oil for the second time
I will leave the machine running overnight (9-10 hours)
After drying the wooden cubes will polish the name plates
Nine hours passed
The result depends on wood and the time
I found that nine hours is the excessive time
The corners of walnut blanks were sanded again
So I will oil the blanks the third time
The blanks are almost dry after four hours
I decided to stop the process
I will extract the blanks manually while the machine is running
I faced one more problem
Some blanks are covered with the oil droplets
I don't know the reason
Maybe another type of newly bought oil
Also this depends on wood
No one drop on wenge
Very few on walnut and ash
Average on movingui and padauk
And almost all cherry blanks were spoiled
I will experiment further
I will put the blanks back into the machine and add white spirit
No risk with the spoiled blanks
It is surprising, but the result is very good
All name plates are clean
So I can say the defect is zero percent
These small magnets are 10x0.7 mm only
But the strength of each magnet is 450 gr
Just a drop of superglue
After receiving the shirt the customer can use it as a fridge magnet
I'll take the name plates to the factory
This is a town pond. It is 12 km long.
The usual history of the Urals towns: made a pond, built a metallurgical plant, the town grew up around...
This is a factory shop. Unfortunately it is a dinner time now.
Fabric warehouse
So it will look like
