Ask the Vet - Cannon keratosis in horses - Duration: 3:21.

SARAH: What is the fungus horses get

on the front of their cannon bones on their back legs,

and how can I get rid of it?

DR LYDIA GRAY: One of the names for this is stud crud.

It's icky.

SARAH: How delightful.

DR LYDIA GRAY: It's gross.

It's crud.

I think the scientific name that we're all

looking for is cannon dermatitis or cannon keratosis.

SARAH: OK.

DR LYDIA GRAY: Cannon keratosis--

these are the words that will be on the screen when we're done--

and cannon dermatitis, dermatitis

meaning skin inflammation, and keratosis

meaning just a abnormal overgrowth of normal skin

tissue.

So it's normal skin tissue, but it was excessive.

We didn't need that much.

And it tends to be also a little greasy and oily.

And if a horse has it, not all horses have it, but if they do,

it's very hard to get rid of.

So I can see why it'd be frustrating.

Fortunately, this is one thing that my horse does not have.

SARAH: The rare ailment Newman does not suffer.

DR LYDIA GRAY: The rare ailment.

I've seen a million ways to deal with it.

The first piece of advice I would give you

is get a diagnosis from the vet just to make sure,

because this person said the skin fungus.

It's actually not a fungus.

So it's widely misdiagnosed between rain rot,

and scratches, and other skin funk.

But it's not.

And so you probably will need a combination of shampooing,

and some topicals, and currying.

What I would caution, don't be too aggressive.

SARAH: Mm.

DR LYDIA GRAY: Don't rub, and scratch, and pick,

and make it worse.

Then you'll have a bacterial infection that

will need additional treatment.

You know how I always say, I feel like in almost every one

of these, ignore it?

Don't look.

SARAH: Yeah, just don't look at it.

DR LYDIA GRAY: It probably isn't bothering your horse.

Now, if you have a halter horse, and looks are everything,

you want to work on it a little bit.

But talk to your vet, and develop

a program that works in your horse that's

not too aggressive.

Don't make it worse than it already is.

SARAH: So can I ask you about cause for this?

Because when this question was bubbling up

to the top of the voting, there was a lot of chatter

among the riders at SmartPak.

DR LYDIA GRAY: Oh.

SARAH: And I think everyone was a little embarrassed.

Nobody wanted to say what they thought caused it.

But then everyone quietly kind of mumbled and was like,

I think everyone says it's geldings peeing on themselves.

Because that's what everyone says.

DR LYDIA GRAY: And the name stud crud.

SARAH: Because it's on their back legs.

DR LYDIA GRAY: Yeah.

SARAH: And so that's why everyone-- Yeah, stud crud,

and you'd think like it's all--

DR LYDIA GRAY: Yeah, mares get it too.

SARAH: Yeah.

Geldings get a bad rap sometimes, guys.

DR LYDIA GRAY: The cause isn't really fully flushed out.

And it's not infection, although it can get infected.

It's more just like a seborrhea, an oily seborrhea

in whatever species, even people.

It's just that your skin is overdoing it.

It's like, calm down everybody.

We have enough skin.

It's pretty.

You can stop.

But the skin's like, maybe a little more would be great.

SARAH: So your horse is an overachiever.

Not a horse that's peeing on his own back legs.

DR LYDIA GRAY: Right.

SARAH: Stop shaming him.

RED VELVET FRENCH TOAST RECIPE - Duration: 3:58.

Hello everyone welcome to my virgin kitchen I am in my in laws house which is very strange

indeed thats all im going to say its abit weird and theres a lovely picture of our wedding

a little montage to the side of me. Your not on your own though I am here. Yeah Mrs Barry

is here I havent broken in yeah we are just doing our voice overs cos the house is quite

noisy. Today this is a red velvet French toast absolutely gorgeous its got a lovely vanilla

bean cream cheese filling and its red so thats romantic isnt it. Erh we are doing some valentines

recipes we just did the hidden heart cupcakes the other day and heres another one for you

to be inspired by and complete your valentines day. If you want to know how to do it all

the recipe ingredients method all that bits and bobs are on myvirginkitchen.com and this

is how we did it. Of course you could make this French toast which Mrs Barry refers to

as eggy bread which is quite the British term for it right you could make this without the

gorgeous cream cheese filing which turns that flavour up to 11 you are gonna love it. In

a mixing bowl with some cream cheese in there just simply add in some sugar and a little

bit of vanilla extract just give it a tini bit of vanilla spank there and it really does

taste it right at the end. Give it a good old beat together make sure that sugar is

fully dissolved in there and for the time being just sit it in the fridge it will just

firm it up. Next we are going to make our randomly very red ergh coating for the bread

so in to a bowl combine together two eggs so crack them in there I did crack a little

bit of shell in there I should definitely use some of my gadgets one of these days.

Then pour in your buttermilk add a little bit of sugar then drop in some more vanilla

proper vanilla vibe going through this recipe and then some cocoa powder. Now beat that

together its going to be a bit powdery at first we really want to whisk it up as well

as you can just to make sure all of that cocoa powder is dissolved through you dont want

it being all clumpy alright its really really important. And I know what your thinking you

are looking at that thinking thats quite brown how are we going to make that rouge my friends.

We are going to add some food colouring you are going to need quite a bit but it is up

to you could do the shade of red 50 shades of red no uh that you want to do ok so add

as much food colouring I used actually a whole little tiny gel tube to get the right vibrant

colour in there and with that done its ready for cooking. So first I wanted to try it in

a frying pan where you dunk your bread in and I didnt lubricate the pan I got it warm

I thought oh we are just going to flash fry this and see if it works dont do that ok because

it leaves a bit of a bready residue in your pan. So what you do want to do is get your

frying pan and a little bit of spray oil or butter if your feeling a little bit cheeky.

Just melt that in there then shove in your dumped bread and maybe about two and half

minutes on medium heat is all it needs just to initially char it and flip it over repeat

both sides. Now its completely optional if you do completely char it up um you can just

cover it with icing sugar anyways you know most eggy bread is quite charred anyway. But

as you see when I rested it down it did make quite a difference in deed. So all that�s

left to do now s grab our chilled cream cheese filling from the fridge and wedge it between

two slices of bread you can just have it like that as it is it will be gorgeous but no we

finish it off with some chocolate sauce another dollop of cream cheese on top and of course

the token sprinkling of icing sugar all over. And then we are sliced into triangles it looks

absolutely gorgeous to as it was like a valentines day treat I did give Mrs Barry the treat of

eating it and I think you enjoyed it right I did it was delicious hopefully the face

on the camera right now shows that I did have a nibble too. Absolutely gorgeous I tell you

I mean you can really taste the cocoa powder the smell when you cook it and there is that

vanilla vibe going through it um maybe serve it with some fruit if you want to zing it

up a tini bit more but trust me it�s a nice little valentines day treat. So that�s it

No criterium for me in the last stage of the Tour de Madagascar Cycliste 2017, just a Unicef-awareness

ride alongside the lake in the middle of the center of Antananarivo.

The organization says the race will be broadcasted live on Malagasy television.

Also the president of the country, Hery Rajaonarimampianina, might come over from his palace to watch the

race.

The first thing is true, we are live on television.

The second thing is not real: the president decides to send his minister of sports to

the race.

Then the criterium starts and the competitors of the Reunion Islands are aggressive in the

early kilometers.

We are in the middle of the race!

And what happened?

- There was a break-away, there were some cars on the parcours and now we are standing

still.

This is typical tough African road racing!

Anyway, good luck boys!

And while the peloton races trough the center of Antananarivo, I decide to do a little relaxation

ride through the city, encountering the Wall of Antananarivo, a road with cobble stones

and a 8% average percentage.

The Reunion Islands riders are supringly dominant in the race and they deliver an outstanding

performance with taking first and third place.

Bob van den Hengel, my teammate who rode a terrific Tour de Mada finishes second.

Bob also takes a fourth place in the general classification.

My other teammate, Niels van der Pijl, finishes third in the GC and wins the points classification

too.

As a team we win the team classification as well.

I enjoyed racers with Malagasy competitors a lot and also they are very positive about

Dutch people racing

in Madagascar too.

And

there was a bit more chaos when cute girls started throwing t-shirts into the public.

And there was time for a quick interview in French with the winner of the Tour de Madagascar:

Vincent Graczyk.

Then the Tour de Madagascar and the amazing trip to this island comes

to an end.

It has been a tough but very interesting journey.

Although I was negatively surprised by the many undeveloped facilities, I did have a

good time.

Next to that it was a great way to prepare for the 2017 road cycling season in Europe.
