each paired with one of us compete as a high pressure
race car pit crew.

In the end, they will be judged
and only one will win the most coveted
reality show award ever,
the Tryphy.

Welcome to "Squad Wars."
We are the Try Guys. Each week,
we invite two squads to compete in a challenge
unlike anything they've ever done.
And as the two coolest Try Guys.
We will be the host for today's challenge.
Zach, what squad will you be bringing down today?
Well, hey, why do you gotta--
my squad today are two hilarious comedians
from MTV's Girl Code,
please welcome Melanie Iglesias
and Shannon Coffey.
[cheering]
- Hi. - Oh, yeah.
Girl Code is a TV show
that features a bunch of comedians
speaking openly about what girl code
means to us. It's really cool
seeing a bunch of different women
that girls can identify with.
Can a--can a man be with Girl Code?
- Men should be feminists. - Yes
I think together, we can really show
- who run the world. - Girls.
Get close to us sometimes.
Well, you're just too far away.
Ned, which squad will you be joining
and automatically making less cool?
That is hurtful and not true.
I'm with two dancing phenoms from YouTube.
Naturally, they'd pick me
because of my dancing prowess.
It's Madd Chadd and Poppin' John
who make up the Madd Poppin' Squad.
- Oh. - Guys, how are you feeling?
We're here to get 'er done. Me and Poppin' John
are both a part of the same
underground popping scene.
We do really difficult dance choreography together,
so that requires a lot of teamwork,
I think we're gonna kick butt today.

Madd Chadd, can you throw that energy over to Ned?

- I love it. - That was kind of like
a high school party that was really cool
and then the dad came and joined.

I'm gonna be one of the girls today.
Look, we're all about the same thing.
We're about equality.
- We're about feminism. - Would you like to see

a race car pit crew.
That's right.
Your squad will have to work as fast as you can
to complete all the elements of a standard pit stop.
Professional crews are made up of seven to eight members
and can turn over a car in 12 seconds.
And it's a precise science,
the drivers' lives are on the line.
So, with a three-person crew,
you've got your work cut out for you.
- Oh. - Girl Code Squad,
pit crews take timing and communication.
How do you feel you'll step up to this challenge?
I think we're great communicators,
so we'll have that working in our favor.
Yeah, and I feel like we're more fluid
and they're like [makes noise]
Madd Poppin' Squad, what do you guys think
of your competition?
They seem moderately confident,
but, like, just, just mean.
It's important to note that Keith and I
will be your judges today as well
because we know a lot about cars.
Much like our expert judge,
Christmas Abbott
who was the first female pit crew member
in NASCAR history.
- Wow. - She will be joining us
in the Squad Wars studio later
to help us determine who the winner is.
But before we race on toward the Big Try,
why don't we get this party started
with a Mini Try?
All right, Squads, for your Mini Try,
you'll tackle this driving course
without hitting any obstructions.
- Sounds simple enough. - Yeah, except for one teeny
tiny speed bump.
The driver will be blindfolded
and his squad mates will be directing him or her
from the backseat.
- Sounds fun. - Sounds dangerous.
It's super dangerous.
Each cone that you will hit will add five seconds
to your score and each person you hit
will add 10 seconds to your final time.
- Person? - Yep, that's right,
we got people out there.
The squad that finishes with the fastest time
with the fewest violations
will win the Mini Try.
And gets to go second in the Big Try.
Meaning, you'll be able to pick up some last minute tips
as you watch the other squad go first.
- Oh, so useful. - Very useful.
So useful. Girl Code Squad,
who will be driving this minivan from your team?
I don't know how to drive.
I don't know how to drive either.
- So, neither of you drive? - No.
I'm from Brooklyn, New York. Represent.
- And we don't drive. - Don't worry,
it's gonna be fine because you're gonna help

Shannon is gonna learn how to drive today.

time to get into the minivan
and don't worry for everyone's safety,
we'll have a professional driver
riding in shotgun.

and this is the brake.

because I also know that Shannon doesn't drive.
This is what driving looks like.
I don't know what to expect, but we do have great
communication skills.

- like I'm doing a good a job. - Great.

at the very end of the course, you need to stop the car
before you hit the mother and her baby.
There's a mother and a baby there?
- Yeah. - [baby cries]
Guys, I feel really sleepy now that my eyes are covered.
Well, that's a good sign.
I think y'all are ready to hit the road.
Girl Code Squad, let's get to it.
Oh, my God.
All right. Foot off the brake.
And she's off.

Shannon drives over a cone and now I'm panicking
because the car can't go forward unless she accelerates
and I know when she accelerates,
we're gonna knock down at least 20 more cones.

I'm gonna tell you right now, she does not like you.
She ran right over you and now she reversed back

I just don't know how fast I'm going.

I've never been in a pit crew before,
so being able to look at the first squad's mistakes
and learn from them, that's gonna be huge.
We lost the Mini Try which means have to be going first
in the Big Try.
Yet another disadvantage thrown at women and me.

Actually, you already met your coach
during the Mini Try.
Though you may not recognize him
because he was in a helmet.

He was helpful.

He's a four-time track champion
right here at Irwindale Speedway
and runner up in all-time track wins.

For your Big Try, you're gonna be executing
a full-on pit stop
with me driving the car.
You're gonna be jacking up the car,
changing tires, adding fuel,
wiping down the car, all before sending me
back out onto the race track.
You will be judged on
your communication and speed.
As well as your passion, heart,
and overall squad work
that you bring to the Big Try.
- We got this. - We got this.
- We got squad work. - All right.
Yeah, I mean, heart, we have that.
That's something that's totally human
and unfortunately, robots don't have hearts.
- We all know that. - You know,
we may not have heart, but we have communication,
coordination, and speed.
We're about to do mad work.

Girl Code Squad, you will go first in the training.

All right. So, like we talked about,
we're gonna be executing a pit stop today.
There's gonna be multiple jobs. So, first is the jack.
I thought that was a scooter.
All right, so, historically, it's a jack man,
but I'm not opposed to a jack woman.
- Whoo. - High five.
We are the pioneering.
- Jack people. - Who wants to be the jack?
I chose to do the jacking up the car
because I am terrified of that gun
because of the sound that it makes.
So, let's roll the jack up into position.

Go, Melanie, go, Melanie, go.
- Yeah. - Oh, she's killing it.
So, Melanie is in charge of jacking up the car
which she loves.
Every time you say jack up the car, she giggles.
After you're finished jacking, you're gonna go.
Sorry, I'm immature.
You go over grab the fuel
and we're gonna go fill the car.
After we're done filling the car,
we need to wipe the windshield down,
make sure it's nice and clear for the driver.
- Gotcha. - One person is gonna be
a tire changer, busting the lug nuts.
There's two directions for this gun,
thumb is reverse, finger's forward.
- Forward. - Backwards.
- Thumb off. - Forward, backwards.
We're visual learners, Ryan.
I like that. I like that.
So, it's just like-- yup, great.
Boom. Perfect.
Great.
Oh, I love that tempo.
It's nice and steady.
As you pull the lug nuts off,
make sure that you grab the lug nut.
If it falls under the car we're gonna be
- recording a penalty. - What?
We're not gonna be reaching under the car
during a live pit stop.

- Awesome. - You know, you look at us
as a squad and you don't think
that we're gonna be very good at this,
but I think we're kind of killing it.
There's two tires to change. We just did one.
So, you guys are gonna have to kind of figure out
how to do the other and who--
what order you wanna do.
I wanna do the wheel basketball.
- Wheel basketball, yes. - Yeah.
Tires are heavy rather than lift it, we'll bounce it.
You could bounce it towards the car.
- No. - Robotic efficiency.
I think we probably just need to do some calisthenics.

- Wheel burpees? - Yeah.
This is like--oh, man. You are...

We wanna learn these tasks
and we wanna, you know, get the practice in,
but we wanna have a good time, too.
So, now, tell me in your experience,
having say a robot exoskeleton,
would that give you an unfair advantage
- in this challenge? - I don't think so.
Robots are pretty slow. You know,
and they have glitches every now and then.
Wait, I just split my pants open.
I definitely just split my pants open.
Ryan, I know we could be using this time to practice,
but that's how confident we are as a squad.
We'd rather use this time to bond as a team.
- Yeah. - We don't need to practice.
We already got this.
It's locked in the hard drive, baby.
It's a lot of pressure.
We're putting Ryan's life
at stake here. You got it?
Yeah, I think so.
If we don't do our job correctly,

And now, the car is gonna take one lap around the track
and when he comes in, the squad will be able
to jump over the wall and start the pit crew thing.

is different than it was in practice.

requires a lot of upper body strength,
they make it look really easy, but it's not.

and I'm not saying that from a place of ego,
or misogyny, or anything like that,

Excellent coordination here.
I get to my wheel and I realize,

What else could there possibly be in being in a pit crew
than getting your nuts right?

We're not just fixing the car
or putting wheels on a car,
we're actually putting on a full show.

at least, I'm gonna start with something fun.
Which is introducing our special expert judge.
She is the first ever female pit crew member
in NASCAR's Sprint Cup history,
please welcome, Christmas Abbott.

- Thanks, guys. - How does one
get into changing tires professionally
and working with these huge cars?
I got duped.
My friend calls me one day. He's like, "Christmas,
do you wanna come play NASCAR?"
And I'm thinking, "Yes, I wanna drive fast cars."
I get there and I found out
that we're going to be changing tires
and hitting lug nuts.
I had never changed my own tire
before that day
and I beat the boys by a lot.
See, Squads?
She was able to do it on her first try.
What is wrong with you, guys?
So, you're the best judge ever for this,
so this is amazing.
Girl Code Squad, how do you think you all did?
I mean, I'm really just proud of us because--
- well, look at us. - We're the underdogs.
We got noodle arms over here.
That should be the name of our team,
- Noodle Arms Squad. - I think going in,
I was a little bit like, "Will they even be able to,
- like, complete the challenge?" - Wow.
Hmm, this is gonna be interesting.
As a reminder to our squads,
today, we are judging on communication and speed.
Not to mention the overall heart,
passion, and squad work
that you brought to the Big Try.
So, the first category
is communication.
I will say the advantage we got
from winning the Mini Try was very helpful
because we kind of got to study and come up with a plan.
I think that's when most of our communication happened
was like, this went well in practice,
- let's apply that. - Girl Code Squad,
what did you think of their communication?
It didn't look like there was much communication going on.
Seemed really quiet...
- Yeah. - ...when you guys are working.
In the moment where we needed something,
we communicated. When you guys had a situation
where you needed something,
it kind of just stalled.
You were like, "Oh, I forgot my jack."
And you didn't tell anybody and they didn't know.
So, I think those are clear examples of how communication
failed in your team,
and was excellent in our team.
We had a whole different approach
to the whole thing. Ours was like much more simple
and straightforward.
Totally polar opposite.
I mean, when you're a robotic person
with no feelings,
it's easy to just be like
not questioning yourselves.
Madd Poppin' Squad, I think you had great communication.
I think you had a great plan.
However, I think Girl Codes Squad obviously,
you had a disadvantage and you overcame that
adversity through lots of communication.
I still gotta vote over here. Right there.
- Thank you. - Thank you, Keith, thank you.
I'll have to give it to Girl Code Squad.

Eugene, you are so beautiful.
All right, so Girl Code,
it was actionable communication
where you guys had a clear
strategy coming into it,
but it was very single lane.
It was not worrying about what your other teammates
were doing, so for this challenge,
I have to give it to the Girl Code.

that takes us into the next category, speed.

So, we're not taking into consideration the fact
that like we had a score
relative to our body sizes,
our experience.

- Well... - Madd Poppin' Squad,

But now, it's time for us to finally deliberate
on the heart, passion, and overall squad work
that you brought today.
So, if you wouldn't mind,
please reach on your seats, grab those headphones

Ned, marriage sometimes is finite,
and it has an end. All right, we're good.
Let's start with Girl Code Squad because...
- Okay. - ...I have to say,
I was continually impressed throughout the day
as they complimented one another,
they supported one another.
And let's be honest,
they were the least qualified
people ever for this.
- Oh. - Two of them have never driven.
Zach is not good with mechanics.
They were so supportive of one another
despite their clear inhibitions.
Let's talk about Madd Poppin' Squad.
It's not an individualized sport.
It's a team sport.
They didn't work as well as Girl Code.
In terms of passion, you know,
doing it right is a passion.
You have to really weigh in
what is your task at hand.
Your task is winning.
With that in mind,
think about who you would chose.
Well, I think this deliberation was tough,
but we've come to a clear cut decision.
I think so, all right, squads, remove your headwear.
Hey, all right. Remove, let's take it off.

Here's the thing,
the winner today
will win the most coveted trophy.
