extreme measure time to let that bitch

Is Porn Feminist? - Duration: 3:33.

Is porn feminist?

Is watching porn feminist?

Is making porn feminist?

These are conversations I hear all the time in feminist and sex-related circles, so I

just wanted to throw my two cents out there.

I think the first thing we always need to ask when talking about porn is what IS porn?

If we go with the basic Wikipedia definition, porn is any "portrayal of sexual subject

matter for the purpose of sexual arousal."

So porn can be a hardcore film from a major production company.

It can be an indie company of three people shooting artsy queer sex.

It can be independent performers selling clips, cam shows, or photos.

Or a married couple sharing their sex tapes online.

Or Tumblr users writing smutty Doctor Who fanfiction.

I feel like it's a weirdly controversial statement to say that I don't think porn

is inherently anything.

It's not a monolith.

When these discussions come up about if porn is degrading, or empowering, or feminist,

or oppressive, I just find it so strange…

Because it can absolutely be all of those things!

I don't know why as soon as the topic of porn comes up any concept of nuance seems

to go straight out the window.

Imagine trying to apply those conversations to any other entertainment genre.

"Is comedy feminist?"

Well, no…

There are feminist comedians, and there are very-not-feminist comedians, but comedy as

a concept has no political, social, or ideological associations.

"Is cinema degrading?"

Of course not.

Certainly there are degrading movies, and people can have demeaning and abusive experiences

on film sets and within the film industry.

But the art form of cinema is objectively neutral.

Porn is no different.

It encompasses a million different kinds of depictions and experiences, and I think putting

all of that in the same box — be it negative or positive — is not particularly useful.

As people insist on maintaining a one-dimensional view of this multi-dimensional industry, it

can be difficult to move past these conversations to what I consider to be more important ones.

Conversations like how to best support porn performers, fight stigma, and ensure their

fundamental labor rights and how to teach the public to think critically about porn

like they do other forms of media.

But I also can't really blame people for having a reductive view of porn when in all

likelihood they've only been exposed to a very narrow sampling of what porn is and can

be.

In 2017, when most people think of porn, they think of the ubiquitous "free" porn tube

sites like PornHub, YouPorn, RedTube, etc.

But what most people don't realize is that most of the top free porn sites are owned

by one company called MindGeek (and the ones that aren't are for the most part just cloning

MindGeek's model).

So when you do a general search for porn, the top results you get aren't going to

be a fair representation of a vast and diverse industry, they're going to be a homogenized

selection of what a single corporation believes its target audience — i.e. straight men

— want.

Imagine only getting one TV channel and thinking that, say, Fox News is representative of all

television.

I'm going to link a really fantastic article in the description about how the MindGeek

porn monopoly influences the types of porn we see and the types of porn we seek out.

But suffice it to say, whatever your view of porn is, I guarantee that if you really

look you will always be able to find porn that subverts those expectations.

And that's why I'll never be comfortable painting it all with the same brush.

What are your thoughts?

Let me know down in the comments.

Thanks for watching, and I'll see you next time!

It's totally surreal I can't believe I'm here.

It's incredible.

Honestly I'm really nervous

I'm so scared it's so much bigger than I

thought it was going to be.

I had auditioned for Jeopardy! the year before

so I kind of knew what was going on.

I was kind of nervous auditioning just cause it was

such a whirlwind day I was off campus for

Maybe 24 hours.

And then I go the call

and was even more surprised and now I

got here and now I feel even more in over my head.

I did not ever expect to make it this far,

I was just there to have fun

and I guess that's what helped me.

Well actually making it is surreal, definitely.

It's a set!

It exists! It's not just something in a TV screen.

There's lights, and there's cameras, and there's action.

There's not action yet, there will be action.

You know, you're running through your mind, like,

"Oh my gosh could I have studied more?"

or "What do I need to know?"

"What are my categories going to be?"

I watch this show called Family Guy.

I realized it had, like, a lot of references in it

and, like, sometimes my little brother jokes around and calls it

the smartest show on television.

I listened to a lot of music outside there. I had my sister

help me out with a lot of pop music that's

been on the radio

I've been paying a lot more attention to

things in my daily life. If someone tells

me a piece of trivia, like, file it away in my head

hoping it'll come up.

We got these cool

little pens that look like the Jeopardy! buzzer

that you can click. That was my...

my tool I guess.

You know I've watched the show

for so many years and just to finally be on it

I'm truly blessed.

This is all a dream

even just to make it here.

As I've told my friends, they're like, "Wow, I watch Jeopardy! every day!"

or like, "My mom's going to see you on TV!"

and that's been really interesting.

I'm boggled by it completely. It is...

I'm actually standing here, we're about to do this!

Im...

Wow!

Omphalocele - causes, symptoms, diagnosis, treatment, pathology - Duration: 4:09.

With an omphalocele, omphalo- refers to the naval, also known as the bellybutton—or

more formally the umbilicus—which is the attachment site of the umbilical cord, and

-cele relates to hernia or swelling.

Omphalocele, therefore, is when some of the bowels herniate out into the umbilical cord.

During the fourth week of fetal development, the embryo starts to change shape from a flat,

three-layer disc to something more shaped like a cylinder, a process called embryonic

folding.

In the horizontal plane, the two lateral folds eventually come together and close off at

the midline, except for at the umbilicus, where the umbilical cord connects the fetus

to the placenta.

This folding allows for the formation of the gut within the abdominal cavity.

During around the sixth week of development, the liver and intestines grow really quickly,

and because the abdominal cavity's still pretty small, there's limited space, which

causes the midgut to herniate through the umbilical ring into the umbilical cord, and

this happens normally.

At about week 10, though, the abdominal cavity typically has grown enough to allow the midgut

to come back from the umbilical cord.

With omphalocele, the midgut—along with potentially other organs from the abdominal

cavity—fail to return back to the abdominal cavity, and therefore stay in the umbilical

cord all the way through fetal development and even after birth.

Now, since the intestines and potentially other organs aren't meant to be in the umbilical

cord, there can be complications like the abdominal cavity not growing to its normal

size, as well as pinched blood vessels and loss of blood flow to an organ.

So with an omphalocele, after birth the abdominal organs protrude out of the body, but are contained

within the umbilical cord, meaning the organs are sealed by a peritoneal layer.

In contrast, a related defect called gastroschisis involves the abdominal contents herniating

out of the abdominal cavity as well, but it happens through a separate hole in the abdomen,

so in this case the intestines are not covered by a peritoneal layer.

Although the cause of omphalocele is ultimately unknown, it's likely a result of both genetic

and environmental factors.

Some cases of omphalocele are due to underlying genetic disorders like Trisomy 13, Trisomy

18, Trisomy 21—also known as Down syndrome—and Beckwith-Wiedemann syndrome.

Also, certain factors have been found to increase the risk of a woman having a baby with omphalocele,

like consumption of alcohol and tobacco during the pregnancy, use of certain medications

like SSRIs, as well as obesity.

Diagnosis can be done before birth, or prenatally, through detailed fetal ultrasound, or lab

tests, screening for increased maternal serum alpha-fetoprotein levels.

If not detected prenatally, omphaloceles are obvious right at birth.

Treatment involves surgery following birth, in which the intestines and organs need to

be placed back in the abdominal cavity and the defect repaired.

If the omphalocele's large, then the organs might have to be slowly moved back into the

abdominal cavity over a period of time.

Alright, as a quick recap, omphalocele is when the intestines, and potentially other

organs, fail to return to the abdominal cavity from the umbilical cord, allowing them to

protrude outside the belly but inside the umbilical cord.

In contrast to gastroschisis, the abdominal contents are covered by a layer of peritoneum.

Now It Is The Elite That Are Feverishly 'Prepping' For The Collapse Of Society - Duration: 8:10.

Now It Is The Elite That Are Feverishly Prepping For The Collapse Of Society.

By Michael Snyder.

Once upon a time, prepping was something that was considered to be on the lunatic

fringe of society.

But in 2017, wealthy elitists are actually the most hardcore preppers of all.

This is particularly true in places such as Silicon Valley, where a whole host of young

tech moguls are putting a tremendous amount of time, effort and money into preparing for

apocalyptic scenarios.

So while interest in prepping among the general population has fallen extremely low right

now, the election of Donald Trump has given liberal wealthy elitists even more urgency

to prepare for what they believe is a very uncertain future.

In the January 30th, 2017 edition of the New Yorker, reporter Evan Osnos has done an extraordinary

job of profiling these wealthy elitists that are getting ready for the crackup of civilization.

One of the people that he interviewed was Steve Huffman, the young co-founder and CEO

of Reddit

Huffman, who lives in San Francisco, has large blue eyes, thick, sandy hair, and an air of

restless curiosity; at the University of Virginia, he was a competitive ballroom dancer, who

hacked his roommates Web site as a prank.

He is less focussed on a specific threata quake on the San Andreas, a pandemic, a dirty

bombthan he is on the aftermath, the temporary collapse of our government and structures,

as he puts it.

I own a couple of motorcycles.

I have a bunch of guns and ammo.

Food.

I figure that, with that, I can hole up in my house for some amount of time.

According to the article, Huffman estimates that fifty-plus percent of his elite

friends in Silicon Valley have some form of apocalypse insurance.

Needless to say, that number would be far higher than for the general population as

a whole.

Another tech mogul that was interviewed by Osnos for the story was former Facebook product

manager Antonio Garca Martnez

Last spring, as the Presidential campaign exposed increasingly toxic divisions in America,

Antonio Garca Martnez, a forty-year-old former Facebook product manager living in

San Francisco, bought five wooded acres on an island in the Pacific Northwest and brought

in generators, solar panels, and thousands of rounds of ammunition.

When society loses a healthy founding myth, it descends into chaos, he told me.

The author of Chaos Monkeys, an acerbic Silicon Valley memoir, Garca Martnez

wanted a refuge that would be far from cities but not entirely isolated.

All these dudes think that one guy alone could somehow withstand the roving mob,

he said.

No, youre going to need to form a local militia.

You just need so many things to actually ride out the apocalypse. Once he started telling

peers in the Bay Area about his little island project, they came out of the

woodwork to describe their own preparations, he said.

I think people who are particularly attuned to the levers by which society actually works

understand that we are skating on really thin cultural ice right now.

As you can see, a lot of these liberal elitists are actually secretly stashing away lots of

guns and ammunition.

So dont believe everything that you read about them being anti-gun.

Other big names in Silicon Valley have decided that having a property on the other side of

the planet is the best form of apocalypse insurance.

The following comes from a story about Paypal founder Peter Thiel in the New York Times

Mr. Thiels admiration for New Zealand is longstanding.

Utopia, he once called it.

He has an investment firm in the country that has put millions into local start-ups.

He also owns lavish properties there, which his Silicon Valley friends hope to fly to

in the event of a worldwide pandemic.

And of course Thiel is far from alone.

So many wealthy individuals are buying up property in New Zealand these days that it

is actually becoming a significant political issue over there.

In fact, it is being reported that foreigners purchased an astounding 3500 square kilometers

during the first ten months of 2016

Statistics showed foreigners had bought over 3500 square kilometers of New Zealand in the

first ten months of 2016, which is over four times as much as they did in the same period

in 2010.

LinkedIn co-founder Reid Hoffman told The New Yorker that New Zealand had become the

hot topic among Silicon Valley leaders lately.

Saying youre buying a house in New Zealand is kind of a wink, wink, say no

more.

Once youve done the Masonic handshake, theyll be, like, Oh, you know, I have

a broker who sells old ICBM silos, and theyre nuclear-hardened, and they kind of look like

they would be interesting to live in.

Hoffman estimated that over half of the Silicon Valley insiders were into preparedness especially

since anti-elite sentiment has risen around the globe in recent years.

It was intensified by events like Brexit and the election of Donald Trump, he added.

So are these wealthy elitists ahead of the curve, or are they just being paranoid?

Only time will tell, but they didnt become exceedingly wealthy in the first place by

being stupid.

As I discussed yesterday on The Most Important News, there are certainly reasons to be optimistic

now that Donald Trump has become president, but there are also lots of reasons to be prepping

harder than ever.

We should be hopeful for the future and working for a better tomorrow, but we also need to

understand that we live in a world that is becoming increasingly unstable.

And most of us think that it is just common sense to purchase insurance for our homes,

our cars, our health, our lives and so many other things, and yet most of the population

is completely unprepared for a major catastrophic event.

It is a good thing to have balance in life.

My wife and I are very proud preppers, and there wont ever be a time when we arent

prepping.

But we also live our lives without any fear.

We know that the world is going to get crazier and crazier, but we do not believe that it

is a time to dig a hole and try to hide from the world.

Rather, now is a time to rise up and become the people that we were created to be.

This year my wife and I are going to be taking on some new adventures, and these new adventures

are going to give us a bigger voice than ever before.

Someone once told me that life is like a coin.

You can spend it any way that you want, but you can only spend it once.

We dont want to spend our lives paying bills and killing time.

Instead, we want to do all that we can to make a difference and to change the world.

So unlike these wealthy elitists, let us not be in fear of what is coming.

There is no other time in history that I would have rather lived than right here and right

now, and I cant wait to see what comes next.

Kidney stones (nephrolithiasis) - causes, types, diagnosis, pathology - Duration: 7:25.

With nephrolithiasis, "nephro-" refers to the kidneys, and "-lithiasis" means

stone, so nephrolithiasis means kidney stones, sometimes also referred to as renal calculi

or urolithiasis.

Kidney stones form when solutes in the urine precipitate out and crystalize, and although

these most commonly form in the kidneys themselves, they can also form in the ureters, the bladder,

or the urethra.

Now, urine's a combination of water, which acts as a solvent, and all sorts of particles,

or solutes.

In general, when certain solutes become too concentrated in the solvent, they become supersaturated.

Urinary supersaturation of certain solutes results in precipitation out of the solution

and formation of crystals.

Those crystals then act as a nidus, or place where more solutes can deposit and over time

it builds up a crystalline structure.

This can happen if there's an increase in the solute, or a decrease in the solvent,

as would be the case with dehydration.

In addition, there are substances like magnesium and citrate that inhibit crystal growth and

aggregation, preventing kidney stones from forming in the first place.

In the majority of cases, the inorganic precipitate is calcium oxalate, formed by a positively

charged calcium ion binding to a negatively charged oxalate ion, which results in a black

or dark brown colored stone that is radio-opaque on an Xray, meaning that it shows up as a

white spot.

Sometimes, instead of oxalate, the calcium binds a negatively charged phosphate group

to form calcium phosphate stones which are dirty white in color and alsop radiopaque

on an Xray.

Calcium oxalate crystals are more likely to form in acidic urine, whereas calcium phosphate

crystals are more likely to form in alkaline urine.

The exact reason why these stones form is usually unknown, but there are some known

risk factors like hypercalcemia and hypercalciuria, having too much calcium in the blood and urine,

respectively.

Hypercalcemia can result from increased calcium absorption in the gastrointestinal tract as

well as hormonal causes like primary hyperparathyroidism.

Hypercalciuria can result from impaired renal tubular reabsorption of calcium, which leaves

a lot of calcium behind in the tubule.

For the calcium oxalate stones, hyperoxaluria is a risk factor as well, and it can be due

to a genetic defect that increases oxalate excretion, a defect in liver metabolism, or

a diet heavy in oxalate-rich foods like rhubarb, spinach, chocolate, nuts, and beer.

There are also uric acid stones which are red-brown in color and radiolucent under an

Xray, meaning that they're transparent to x-rays and don't show up very well.

At a physiologic pH, uric acid loses a proton and becomes a urate ion, which then binds

sodium, forming monosodium urate which crystallizes and ultimately forms uric acid stones.

Since uric acid is a breakdown product of purines, a very common reason for high levels

of uric acid is consuming lots of purines.

Purine-rich foods include shellfish, anchovies, red meat or organ meat.

High levels of uric acid can also cause gouty arthritis, most commonly in the first metatarsal

joint which is the base of the big toe.

A fourth type are struvite stones, sometimes called infection stones, which are a composite

mix of magnesium, ammonium, and phosphate.

These form when bacteria like Proteus mirabilis, Proteus vulgaris, and Morganella morganii

use the enzyme, urease, to split urea into ammonia and carbon dioxide.

The ammonia makes the urine more alkaline and favors precipitation of magnesium, ammonium,

and phosphate into jagged crystals called "staghorns" because they often branch

into the several of the renal calyces and look like the horns of a staghorn deer.

Like the calcium phosphate stones, struvite stones are dirty white and radiopaque under

an X-ray.

Risk factors include urinary tract infections, as well as vesicoureteral reflux and obstructive

uropathies, both of which are also risk factors for urinary tract infections.

A tiny minority of stones are cystine stones, composed of the amino acid cystine which sometimes

leaks into the urine to crystalize and form a yellow or light pink colored stone that

is radiopaque under X-ray.

Finally, there are some rare stones made of xanthine, which, just like uric acid, is a

byproduct of purine breakdown.

These stones, also like uric acid stones, are red-brown in color and radiolucent under

an X-ray.

Kidney stones can cause dull or localized flank pain in the mid to lower back on both

sides, as well as renal colic, which is a sharp pain and is a bit of a misnomer because

the pain is usually constant rather than intermittent.

The pain is caused by the dilation, stretching, and spasm caused by obstruction of the ureter,

and is typically worse at the ureteropelvic junction and down the ureter, and subsides

once the stone gets to the bladder.

Stones that are less than 5mm across are usually passed within hours.

Diagnosis involves a history and physical exam, as well as imaging studies like ultrasound

and CT scans, and finally urinalysis because it might show microscopic or gross hematuria

or blood in the urine.

Treatment or management includes hydrating an individual to reverse the process of precipitation.

Also, medications might be given, to help reduce pain, reduce stone formation, like

potassium citrate, and to help stones pass through, like alpha adrenergic blockers and

calcium channel blockers.

Also shockwave lithotripsy might be used, which is a noninvasive treatment that uses

high-intensity acoustic pulses that travel through the body to break up the kidney stones.

Finally, surgery and stent placement might be needed for larger stones.

Alright, as a quick recap, nephrolithiasis is the formation of kidney stones, which form

when solutes precipitate out into crystals in the urine.

The most common type of stones are calcium oxalate stones, though other types include

uric acid stones and struvite stones.

Carlson School alumni Michael Ramlet finds success in D.C. - Duration: 1:58.

Those first 2 to 5 years outside of Carlson are truly definitive experiences.

You want to be exposed to as many people and as many opportunities as possible.

You can either pick what room you're in, who's in that room or what you're doing.

Right away in your career, you don't get to pick all three.

So you kind of focus on one.

For me, I wanted to be in Washington DC because the lure of DC was that you were going to

be engaged with young, smart people every day and you'd have opportunities faster than

you would have in a program environment.

For some people, it's about the people in the room.

The thing I would say about our company at Morning Consult, I care the most about the

people that are in the room.

I'm confident that if we have the right people in the room, we're going to have a great company.

The third piece, in terms of what you're doing in the room, I don't think you know on day

1 what you want to do in the room.

I think that's the importance of seeing a lot of different people in a lot of different

rooms gives you the perspective 3, 5 years out.

With government and with these opportunities around the government, they need young staff

that are willing to step in on day 1, work hard, work long hours, but it's wildly rewarding

because you're given opportunities that would take 10, 15, 20 years in a lot of corporate

settings.

The things you want to achieve in your professional life, they're not always financial based.

They often times have relationships and opportunities that allow you to give back.

For a lot of graduates out of Carlson, there's this recognition they have a world-class education,

and they have an opportunity to make a difference in other people's lives.

I think for a lot of alums it's the opportunity to re-engage in a community that gave them

so much.

I wouldn't have a company without Carlson.

The idea to create this newsletter which then became a company, and the opportunity to engage

with world class faculty, were absolutely critical in setting up this company.

We've taken it from 3 employees to 35 employees in 2 years.

So for us, it's really a great opportunity to re-engage both as a business owner but

also as an alum who recognizes how much the Carlson School's given me.
