Since I recently showed you how to play the original Assassin's Creed on an intel atom
computer I tough it might be appropriate to also try one of the newer entries of the series.
2015's Assassin's Creed Syndicate is currently the latest game in the main series and like
a good AAA release it struggles quite a bit on older hardware, even on the minimum settings
and resolution.
But our claim on industrial age london shall not be denied, because there are actually
some important tweaks you can do to get the best performance possible.
This is the LowSpecGamer where every time someone complains about not reaching 60 fps
on a game we roll our eyes ever so slightly and low end tress are the best tress.
So forget about detailed city elements in the distance and advanced illumination because
we are making this game run.
Hey!
Let me talk to you about Humble Bundle for a second!
Did… did you feel that?
The feeling of a bunch of people going "ugh, another add" and skipping further into the
video?
Well too bad for them because you just entered the LowSpecGamer secret giveaway!
I will be giving away a full copy of XCOM2, that's right, the 60 dollar game. Humble has been giving this to new subscribers
of the humble monthly service.
Where you get 100$ of games every month for 12 dollars.
All you need to do participate is to comment "the pink sea barnacle has a nice ass.
I like it very much".
You can also tweet at me, or write on my facebook wall, any way you like.
DO NOT explain to anybody what is going on if they ask.
It will be out little secret.
I will announce the winner next week on my social networks.
Onward to the video:
This is the settings screen for Assassin's Creed Syndicate.
As you can imagine we are going to start with all the settings to the lowest.
This is one of those games that only allows you to lower the resolution to
720 so we will test in that as well.
The result in the test hardware was something around 22 to 25 fps while idle.
Altough if you climbed to a higher place and looked into the distance framerate crashes
all the way down to 17.
So.
What is there for us to do?
The configuration file for Assassin's Creed Syndicate is located on your documents folder,
Assassin's Creed Syndicate, and the file is called AC.ini
In there you will find that you can lower reflection and character quality a bit, as
well as disable bloom, fog and other postfx and finally disable global illumination.
With those changes done you will immediately notice how objects appear shiny and ilumination
is less realistic in general, and with that we managed to climb to around 26-28 while
in the street and no less than 20 while staring into the distance.
Furthermore there is minskipmiptextures which can be reduced to a minimum of 128.
This will not only cause an important reduction in texture quality but elements in the distance
like tress will look significantly less detailed and full versions of those elements will load
closer to you.
Finally there is resolution.
Turns out that if you add a custom resolution like 960x540 on your GPU's control panel...
like the Nvidia custom resolution area or intelHD using the control panel or the
custom mode app on windows system 32, you can then put that resolution in the these
two lines of the config file and the game seems to pick it up fullscreen, which gives
your GPU a lot more room to function.
I decided to more extensively test what kind of performance I could get with this configuration
on this setup.
Here are some clips from the test I streamed on the channel not that long ago:
Ok, ok stop running away, aren't you supposed to be in my band (I meant gang). Oh, for crying out loud!
Ok, I'm gonna need a carriage.
Or not.
Yeah!
Perfect.
Oh, I know have to fight enemies while protecting this piece of crap?
Oh god.
Yeah.
I'm going to have to kill this guy.
The quality of the animation is really good though, that part like, there's fighting on top
of a carriage while, you know, while fighting this enemy and the horse runs around, this
is the kind of thing that I like about this game.
These sort of natural moments.
Really cool.
Fantastic.
No.
Don't.
Don't call the attention of the police.
Ok, don't call- fuck.
Alright, off we go- no!
This is nitroglycerin, you freaking asshole!
Alright, you wanna fight?
Fine, let's fight.
Can I just drive?
No?
Can you please get into the- yes, thank you.
So inconsistent.
And now the police is coming.
Oh, I can outrun them.
That's not a problem.
Stupid mission, and there's also raining- no, careful.
Oh boy.
No, just kill them.
I gotta defend like- ok.
C'mon.
Yeah.
Huh, you didn't need any defending, I guess.
Ok.
Speak to the anarchist.
Something you won't hear me say often.
Did you just see that?
That just happened, right?
That wasn't my imagination.
What the fuck is up with this game sometimes?
Right, and… nope.
But the guy is down there.
Should be- oh look at that.
Wait, wait, wait, let me de-render a tree.
Look at that.
Look at that low end city of London.
Industrial low end London.
Now that's a world that I wish I could live in.
Now, this is interesting, just full of disease, overworked workers, human exploitation and
now?
Low graphics.
Beautiful.
There's a flying newspaper behind of them.
"Gentleman, do you believe in ghosts?"
Yes, there's one right behind you.
Woah, that's- "defend the potential victim".
From what?
The demon?
Oh that's seems to be the case, yeah.
Ok.
Woah!
Now that's a hard-to-kill demon.
Wait, is killing the demon the mission?
There's nothing happening, is just building up combos.
I think I have just to defend the potential victim but that's what I'm doing.
By beating the crap out of this person.
So, I guess not.
And he just stays- I think the game bugged out
Again.
Come here.
Stop glitching!
Oh dear god.
Ok, so, I think the game bugged out
My god.
Oh so this is going to take a while.
Ah, that was what it was supposed to happen.
Okie dokie.
Yeap, I'm going to save all of you, don't worry.
All of you are going to be saved by the power of me burning everything.
Now, get out of my way while I kill everyone.
I mean, the guards just keep patrolling like nothing is happening while clearly the factory's
burning.
Just stop running away!
And that's it!
Well, that was… boring.
Oh well.
That is all for this video
Man!
I finally tackled this game!
Thank you for watching this video, or the stream and thanks to the People in patreon
who help fund it.
See you in the next video.
