[geezer voice] ...when I was young, you had to restart the computer....
Well hello again
from Jimm's youtube video channel!
this time we'll be unboxing the
Acer... Acer's 27" gaming monitor
that features
something special
Tobii eye tracking, that is
that tracks your eyes
...basically [not impressed with his own translation]
whatever you should call it in finnish
I'm very, very excited about this
because I've never had a chance to try it out before this!
this is very, very interesting indeed
firstly we'll be unboxing this and then
we'll hook it up and see how it performs in practice
and go over the different specs and other stuff like that.
and without further ado, let's get unboxing!
and as always...
[knife hits floor]
yea, that too!
I have a knife in my pocket
[throws knife]
and here we GO!
let's... let's
open the hatch!
first we find the manual
and
and the energy certification
here we also have the customary warranty information leaflet thingies
the user manual and a couple of smaller pampflets too
next we have
a cable that is
display port type
power cord model UK
USB cable
with this odd end congfiguration, whatever it's called
the type usually used with printers
USB.... [dubbed over] TYPE B
...let's just do a voiceover with the correct type later!
sooo that's normal A type at one end and [voiceover] type B at the other
then we have...
EU power cord!
here we have something else, still
there we have the power adapter
then we have a... box!
inside the box we find
evidently a wall mounting bracket
that looks like that
and here we have, in review, the peripherals included with the monitor
like so!
now it's time to tackle the monitor itself!
[strained voice] let's... just... grab that there...
always this styrofoam
out!
and here we can already catch a glimpse of the
monitor, somehow. now how do we get it out?
well, that was surprisingly easy!
now we can drop that onto the floor
boom!
the stand is ready-mounted
sooo
let's flip the unit over like SO! [straining]
and throw away some more styrofoam
and here....
here we unveil the monitor, like so!
soooo... as mentioned before the monitor in question is 27"
curved display
this is part of Acer's Predator series lineup
and the specific model [shown on screen]
it features the Tobii eye tracking system
that follows the movement of one's eyes, somehow, puzzlingly
we'll have a look at that later on
and further, looking closely at f.ex. the back of the screen
firstly we find three usb3 ports
and this is where the usb TYPE B mentioned previously is connected
on the left hand side we find
we have the power button
some other buttons, quite anonymous
and a joystick that you can fiddle about in all directions, probably for options menu purposes
and we have a... probably a door
at least it looks like a door
thank god it really was a door
and behind the door we have some connectors
that are as follows
that's not a connector!
display port
HDMI
power cord
and headphone jack
otherwise the exterior is like the rest of the predator lineup, that we're already familiar with
the stand has all these jaggedy angles and
pointy bits GOSH DARNIT I cut myself on a pointy bit
there's also some kind of holder for your headphones back there
a thingamajig that sticks out
that's what I hurt my hand on
errr
at the front, there's nothing out of the ordinary, quite no nonsense
the predator logotype down here
and below, naturally, the tobii eye tracking module
and here it says "Acer"
there!
ummm
now that we've been looking at the external features, it's time to go deeper
let's give this thing a try!
soooooo
now when the monitor is out and all set up
I must say that it has a bright and clear picture, very vivid
the colors are vey nice
and like I mentioned before the display is 27"
ummm
LED display
and it's notable features include NVIDIA G-sync and a 144hz panel so
the picture is quite smooth, then
the resolution is the familiar 1920 x 1080
so it's full HD / FHD
yes!
ummm
what else...
other stuff worth mentioning, the viewing angle is wide and good
it's flickerless so the picture doesn't flicker
on this monitor
errr
in addition it has "blue light shield" ....... [shrugs]
anyway....
and DTS sound features!
also the monitor's stand....
...are you with me?
the monitor's stand
is quite versatile
it can be adjusted up high like this if needed and
....there's a real "low rider" position as well!
and you can also shift it sideways like this
oops!
the stand shifted!
yeah!
Game on!
these are my eyes!
my other eye shut down!
oh it registers
it registers blinks too!
that's VERY nifty indeed!
LOOK AT IT DOT!
augh, too many!
whaa???
oh
I have to look at the dots until they explode
it really does follow my gaze
I don't even have to turn my head
I just...
yeaa
it really is enough to just....
WOOOOOOW
technology is awesome!
so basically
at the moment
I'm not touching anything [lifts hands]
I'm just
I just shift my eyes around the sceen and it goes round
it feels a bit weird
okay, so now we have fired up some games to try out
let's see how the Tobii eye tracking feature of this Acer monitor performs in action
firstly we have Tom Clancy's The Division
that supports the Tobii feature
and
I've set up my little camera down here at the front
so you can see how my eyes are moving
in relation to the gameplay shown in the main view
soooo, we're all set and playing the Division game
