Hey everybody

as you might already know, I'm Lawrence Genova

and I'm running for DuPont City Council Position 7

the primary's coming up, so I just wanted to take a moment to reflect on these past couple months

I've gotten to talk to a lot of DuPont voters

hear their stories and their feedback and learn from them

one of the best things I learned

was actually from a longtime resident

a conservative pastor

and I only know that because he brought that up at one point during the conversation

anyway

he said

this conservative pastor said,

"what you need to do..."

"is you need to listen to Pink Floyd's album..."

"The Dark Side of the Moon..."

"from start to finish..."

"no breaks"

and I was like, "so like watching a movie?"

and he goes, "yeah, i mean--i'm telling you..."

"you gotta do that..."

"it's an awesome experience"

now keep in mind that

by this point, we had already been talking in his front yard for almost half an hour

at one point, he brought out his electric guitar

I played him a song that I wrote

he played me a song that he wrote

so, i mean

in terms of "awesome experience"

I was thinking

this right here is an awesome experience

this, for me, has been the best part about campaigning

going out to talk to the voters

talking one-on-one

to be honest

I think my message can get lost when it's in a Facebook comment thread

that's why I do these videos

that way you can see me for who I am

rather than, you know, just

texts on a screen

that's why I go out and talk to voters

to hear their side of the story

but more importantly

to establish common ground first

and then talk about the issues

I believe that if we put more focus on the things that we have in common

and make that the foundation of our discussion

then we'll have a better chance at coming to an agreement

on even the most divisive issues

that's my approach to being a council member

I also believe in maintaining transparency with the government agenda

and helping to make it easy to understand

that's why I posted the DuPont budget on my website along with my notes

that's why I created the property tax calculator

with data I pulled from the Pierce County website

basically

as a council member

I want to show you, the taxpayer, what your tax dollars are doing

and as a candidate

I want to show you, the voter, that I would do a great job as a council member

I do hope to continue on this journey with you after the primary

either way, thank you for your time

to the DuPont residents who supported me through this

and for giving a new guy a chance
