How To Nail Your Message Thru Short Videos - Duration: 3:14.
Hey guys, how you going? It's Mark here. I am at the Quadrangle here at the University of Sydney.
We're spending about five days here recording an NLP event for Luke Hawkins.
We're doing some audio recording, I've got a team member who's
taking some photographs but I thought I'd take this time during this lunch break
to just give you some quick tips when
it comes to presenting on camera and how to get your message across quite effectively
because one of the...hey Kim! Because one of the challenges
that I find is when it comes to creating short videos...because the challenge
is making your message compact enough but still
getting all the great insights that you have there. So I'm sure some of
you here might be finding that quite challenging and I remember when someone told me
what's great about short videos is it kind of forces you to
put all the great information in there. But have you ever found when you do that
because we often think that every insight is awesome, it's so important
that we end up trying to cram everything in that short amount of time
that we actually make the message more complex than we think? And as a result,
people are not really connecting with your message on your video. So based on
my experience working with short videos for my clients for example
those one minute Instagram videos and even some that are shorter than that,
there's a core principle that I learned in tackling this much more effectively
and it's really a simple one and that's what it is -
It's simplicity. It's creating your video and really
focusing on understanding- what is that core message? So what is your core message?
Because one of the challenges that a lot of people have is, like I said before,
we feel that every insight is great but it's really being able to discard
all those great insights and letting the most important one shine
and you start by really understanding- what is your core message? So for example for me,
before I created this video, I thought to myself, "What is
the message that I want to bring across?" Because before...if I didn't do that,
I'd be tempted to share with you as much information that I want
which makes it too complex. So really in this video I wanted to focus more on
how to focus on simplicity when it comes to your marketing, when it comes to
your video creation. So that's my tip for you guys, is really first
figuring out- What is your core message? Start from there and make sure that you
don't get too tempted and try to fit in all the great insights that you have
but really letting go of those great insights and allowing the best one to shine.
So I hope that makes sense. If you've got any questions around this
I'd love to hear from you. Hey Chris! Tita Raquel, how are you? I hope you have an awesome day
and I'll catch you guys soon. See you later!

Q & A – 200 Subscribers Celebration Video 1! - Duration: 9:04.
Hey folks, I'm Max. Catch me on Twitter at LazyMovieNerd. So t there's no cat sidekick
because none of my cats wanted to participate today. So, I got BB8 instead. So… A little
while ago my channel passed 200 subscribers. I promised to do three things then. Give all
my animals a boatload of treats, do 200 burpees, and a Q&A. So today isn't Boo's lucky
day, because it's the Q&A. The treats and burpees will be coming in the next video.
I actually thoroughly enjoyed coming up with answers to all these questions. So let's
dive right into them. Oh. Most of the folks who asked me stuff have
websites and YouTube channels and other stuff like that. Make sure to check out the description
below for links! The first question is from Ashley, The Movie
Oracle. Ashley is awesome and you have to check out her YouTube channel. While I, and
a bunch of other poor sods try our best to be funny in our videos, she's just a natural
at it. Her question is: "What's the one TV show
you tried to watch, but could never finish?" This question doesn't have just one answer.
There are so many shows that I started and gave up on. If there was a Tinder for TV shows,
I'd be swiping left even more that I've done on the real Tinder app. But I have to
pick just one, so I'll go with Burn Notice. The show had such a promising start and so
much awesomeness, mostly from Bruce Campbell, of course. But after the first 10 or so episodes
I got super bored because it was the same damn thing each time. The episode plots were
repetitive and mediocre while the overarching plot went nowhere. No amount of Bruce Campbell's
awesomeness or Gabrielle Anwar's hotness could keep me watching, so bye bye…
The second question is by Tyler Calvert, who also has a YouTube channel. Tyler is a Baltimore
Ravens fan, unlike me. I just want all teams to lose. Tyler is smart and fun. He actually
seems to know what he's talking about, so y'all should be watching his videos.
He asks "If you could be a character in any film or TV sow, who would you pick?"
I'd want to be a background character in The Next Generation. Someone who spends his
time vacationing on Risa. Endless summer, hot chicks, and technology that allows me
to eat endless amounts of cheesecake without gaining weight. Beam! Me! Up!
The next question is by Levi, the garage Movie Guy. He probably lives in his garage now,
because he left his stove on a few weeks ago. In his garage, he talks about older movies
and dissects them really thoroughly, kind of like you did to a frog in biology class.
Watch his YouTube videos, folks! Levi asks: "If someone made a biopic of
your life, who would play you? Who would direct it? What would be the title?"
I've let this question rattle around my brain for a while. Mostly because I'm vain
and selfish. Soo… You could totally take one of my relationships and turn it into a
Lifetime original movie, but you'd have to lie about the ending to make it not suck.
But I think that the most successful show would be a rip-off of The IT Crowd that is
all about my day job. See, when I'm not herding cats or talking about movies, I run
an IT company and computer store. Sounds boring right? Not when you hear some of our stories…
Like about the guy who set his iPhone on fire to prove to a friend that it wasn't fireproof.
He just forgot that it had all the photos of his newborn baby... Or like the dude who
was convinced that he was being spied and hacked because his Mac got hot when he used
it…. Or how about the episode about the man whose wife whacked him upside the head
with his laptop because he made a baby with another woman... And let's not forget the
two-part season finale when the plumbing in our office got backed up and there was, quite
literally, a fountain of sewage shooting up into the air from the toilet and then running
through our workshop and the store like a fragrant river of poop. And that, folks, would
just be season one. This show could easily run for a decade and not run out of material.
As far as who'd play me? That's easy. There are only two candidates, Tommy Wiseau
or Nicolas Cage. Tommy has the accent already and Nicolas Cage would do this in every episode.
What could be cooler? Tommy would have to lose his hair while Nic would need to give
up the toupee, but art demands sacrifices, right? Have J. J. Abrams direct the pilot
and then give it to Damon Lindeloff, so it's appropriately ridiculous and nonsensical.
As far as title? I have no idea. How about you give me one in a comment!
The guys from Scriptease, which is a really cool movie review blog that you should be
reading, asked me which 2017 movie let me down so much that I'd want to remake it
and why. I had to give the question a fair amount of
thought and my answer surprised even me. The movie I'd redo would Be Dunkirk. Maybe because
of high expectations, I was really disappointed in it in the long run. The weird pacing and
the realism that really wasn't that realistic. I think that with a more conventional structure
this could have been a really good movie. The next question came from Daniel from the
YouTube channel HalfCocked. And yeah, you should totally watch their stuff. Daniel asked
about the movie moment that makes me blubber like a baby.
Soo… By blubber like a baby, I take to mean that it makes me so emotional that I cry and
risk losing bladder control. Something really sad like when you let bananas sit too long
and realize that you lost a whole dollar worth of food…
I'd say it would be the ending of Terminator 2 when the T800 is lowered into the molten
steel. Also when John Wick's dog is killed. Both of these scenes are pretty damn traumatic.
Folks from ANOTHER awesome YouTube channel, Euro Hybrid wanted to know about my favorite
sci-fi movie of the past decade. That's actually a pretty damn tough question!
I had to do some thinking. Thinking requires doughnuts and I'm trying to get in better
shape for my next marathon. So some sacrifices had to be made here! Well, after fueling with
enough chocolatey goodness, I came up with one answer: Edge of Tomorrow. It is a very
smart and well-written movie. The story is really solid and while it, obviously, has
some holes; it is probably the best sci-fi script of the decade. Add to that the comedy
that was fueled by a great performance from the late Bill Paxton in a small, but important
role, and you got a winner. Also, very importantly, this is the movie that cemented my legendary
and oh-so-unhealthy crush on Emily Blunt. This is way more her movie than Tom Cruise's.
You could replace Tom Cruise with one of many current actors and the film would be the same.
I can't see who could have played Emily Blunt's role better. I hope that the sequel
doesn't suck, but it probably will.
For the last question we go to my friends Brittany and Stephen from The BS Review. Last
year they collaborated with me on a video and are really awesome folks. They talk about
movies, comics, and more. They also have video game live streams, if that's your thing.
In other words, watch their YouTube channel! Their question is: "What is something you
did not expect to enjoy about a hobby of yours, but ended up loving?"
We've been talking about movies this whole time, so let's switch to the one thing that
I love even more: running. Like most sensible people, I used to think that running was really
hard and would probably be boring. Training for a Marathon must mean hours upon hours
of treading the pavement rain, snow, or shine. How could someone enjoy running 10 or more
miles in the pouring rain? As it happened, running in the rain turned out to be one of
my favorite things. You do have to take extra precautions such as thicker bandages on nipples,
so they don't bleed… and copious amounts of Body Glide, which isn't a sex ointment,
but God's gift to humankind that helps prevent chafing in some very key areas. Running is
the greatest therapy… The worst punishment for me is when I can't run for one reason
or another. The greatest feeling is crossing the finish line of a marathon.
So that's that. Thanks for sticking with me through this and maybe now you know more
about me than you ever wanted to. Click the thumbs up below because you're
awesome like that and click the subscribe button if you think that I'm awesome.
I'm Max and I'll see you later!
