Hypertext Transfer Protocol Secure, or HTTPS, is a secure form of HTTP that can

encrypt information between your Synology NAS and other devices through

the use of TLS certificates, protecting you against eavesdropping and

man-in-the-middle attacks. In this video we will show you how to configure HTTPS

on your Synology NAS using Let's Encrypt, a free-to-use certificate service that

comes integrated into Disk Station Manager.

Before you begin, make sure your NAS is running Disk Station Manager 6.0 or

higher. DSM currently automatically renews LetsEncrypt certificates every 90 days.

Users wishing to manually renew certificates must upgrade to DSM 6.2

Beta. In order to apply the correct HTTPS settings you must first have a

registered domain name. To set up a free Synology-hosted domain name, go to

Control Panel, External Access and click Add under DDNS. Select Synology as the

service provider before choosing a domain name.

After you have obtained a domain name, go to Security to add a new HTTPS

certificate. Add a new certificate or replace an existing one. You can import

an existing certificate, create one yourself or get one from Let's Encrypt

enter your domain name and email address before clicking apply to complete the

process

After you have obtained a certificate from Let's Encrypt go to Network, DSM

Settings and tick "Automatically redirect HTTP connections to HTTPS".

Access to DSM via your registered domain name is now encrypted via HTTPS.
