1. Lighting
I know recording in a show in a pitch black space of void where nothing exists
is how this game started
but trust me it's not the best thing for a competition
take a look guys
this is me whipping in a dark place
and this is me whipping in a properly-lighted space
now, you not only see my whips, but you also see my elbows going up and down
and my showmanship as well
this is me doing tech in a dark place
and this is me doing tech in a good lighting space
now you can see my angles much clearer right
the lighting of where you record is god damn important
if your moves, your facial or body expression aren't clear
you'll exhaust the judges as they try to understand what you're actually doing
therefore the given scores may not be correct
so the easiest way is go out and record on a night street
where your glove lights can dominate the street lights
if you record in the bed room, turn on the dim lights, or laptop lights, or any lights
place the lights behind you
in this way, your body becomes a shadow in the camera
meaning you're visible, but in a mysterious manner, just like some old Emazinglights videos
Or to make the quality real decent, go buy a portable worklight
trust me you'll never regret when you see how it improves your video
2. Glove set
Replace batteries are necessary if the lights are too dim
but what really matter is, the choice of modes
For general glovers, solid modes like Strobes or Chromas prove to be the most effective for the camera
it makes sure all the moves are clearly recorded
but yeah i know a lot of you guys prefer blinky modes
blinky modes give us real good energy and feeling to play around with the music
sadly they don't seem to always perform well when recorded
I usually got lower points than expected
In shows where I used Strobie
3. Song selection
there are endless song options, and you gotta pick one fits your style best
Also, to protect your storytelling point, it's super important to determine the exact part of the song to glove to
In my opinion, it should be within 1:30 - 2:00
and has proper beginning, middle and ending
4. Outfit
some choose hoodie to be cool, some choose t-shirt
some wear hats, and some choose not to wear anything
just pick anything that makes you feel like you're about to go out and perform in real life
it actually helps
5. Replace the audio of the footage with original music
Now, most cameras are not designed to record sounds at high quality
no matter how expensive they are
so when you speak straight into the camera without an external microphone
your voice is already worse
which happens the same way to the music, even if you put the speaker near to the camera
it can't be as clear as the original track
not to mention the case you don't have the speaker except your tiny smartphone
woa the audio quality must be 10x times worse
and what's the consequence?
judges who are in charge of musicality like me can not hear all the sound layers properly except for the drums
and many times I've been confused whether the glover does intend to hit any special sound layers
or whether the glover's musicality is strong enough to get a high point just because the audio's difficult to hear
so what's the solution
first, transfer the footage into the computer
second, install Imovie or Adobe Premiere Pro
they are 2 easiest softwares to add music and still get your final video at high quality image
third, go watch a tutorial about how to use them
finally get the original music file, add it so it matches the raw audio
