polish and colours, special brushes or dotting tools, different patterns, stickers and pins

360 vr video CERN - Duration: 4:38.
What is the first thing that pops into your mind when you hear the word CERN?
BRIGHT!!!
Physics
I think it's a research company. That's all I know.
Yeah, I think it's a research company
Hello everyone! Today we are at CERN.
First we'll introduce our group.
(Move the camera to see everyone's introductions!
This is CERN the European Organization for Nuclear Research
Here hundreds of the best physicists and engineers from all over the world are exploring the fundamental structure of the universe
They use the world's largest and most complex
scientific instruments to study the basic building blocks of nature, the fundamental particles
CERN was founded in 1954
as a scientific cooperation between 12 European states
The laboratory was placed at the Franco Swiss border near Geneva to emphasize that it was an international project
Atlas is one of the experiments at CERN which was involved in the discovery of the Higgs boson, the missing particle in the standard model
People at the Atlas control room are working 24/7 to keep the detector running properly and collect data
This is the data center
These computers store some of the data that is collected in the experiments
In 2002, the capacities of these computers reached its limit. So some of the data is storage and data centers around the world
Here you can see a model of a particle accelerator
This is a part of a circular accelerator shaped like a ring
It speeds up particles and thereby gives them a higher energy
The accelerator is made out of magnets that direct the particles in the right direction
The Large Hadron Collider accelerates and collides protons and also heavy lead ions
one might expect the LHC to require a large source of particles
but protons for beams in the 27-kilometer ring come from a single bottle of hydrogen gas
replaced only twice a year to ensure that it is running at the correct pressure
The aim of the physicists working at CERN is to seek the answers to fundamental questions
What is the universe made of? How did it start?
They do so by using powerful accelerators. Besides doing fundamental research, CERN is also committed to advanced technology and
transfer of knowledge to drive progress for example in medical imaging and cancer treatment,
industrial processes or information technologies
The question we ask ourselves was: What is the value of CERN?
Let's hear it from someone working there
Rik van Breukelen was a former honours student at the University of Groningen and is now a theoretical physicist at CERN
It's a lot more than just the LHC, just the particle accelerator
It's a common theme that they say the most important thing you produce here is brainpower
A lot of engineers come here, they go into the world
the actual world, not our simulated society
and they have a lot of tools to use in
important applications for your usual life
medicine, next generation's (???)
So that's all knowledge and experience that you can generate here and apply in different areas
CERN is about that mostly, and our curiosity!
