Well it has been 50 years today since two Memphis sanitation workers were killed.
In remembrance of those men and the launch of the sanitation strike
The Washington Post is reporting elected leaders from more than 70 cities are
going to be observing a moment of silence this afternoon.
A ceremony is being held in Albuquerque, New Mexico
South Florida sanitation workers paying a touching tribute
Here in Dayton a moment of silence was also held
Cincinnati leaders and public service workers took part in the national event
Here in San Diego today to honor Echol Cole and Robert Walker
Mr. Smith America has seen sanitation workers carrying that famous sign
I AM A MAN. You carried one of those signs.
It meant that we was coming out of the boyhood into the manhood to me
and it was a great honor to carry that sign.
Thank you very much.
You know at this moment you are not alone
because we're having similar rallies like this
in Atlanta and Albuquerque and Rochester, New York.
All over the country silence today but bold action tomorrow
Silence today, voices raised tomorrow
Voices raised for change
voices for freedom, voices for justice
voices for civil rights, labor rights and human rights.
Let's get the job done. God bless you. Thank you very much.
