Rachel O'Brien | NEC Accountability Video (November 2017) - Duration: 2:45.

Hi, my name is Rachel O'Brien, I'm a Disabled Students Officer. This is my

accountability report, so because I've only got three minutes you're just gonna

get my highlights - any questions please email me. My email can be found on

the website. So first of all the big thing that happened last couple months

is around universal credit, so I had come running into the office on a Friday

morning because vote was announced last month there's gonna be a debate and a

vote in the House of Commons the following Wednesday so we put together a

briefing which we, which colleagues at Disability Rights UK kindly let us use

and we also put together a blog which included a sample script, so encouraging

students and officers to mobilise in order to tweet and email their MPs to

make sure they attended the vote in the House of Commons. Thank you so much all

those who took part, particularly disabled students and FE College officers that was great.

The vote passed, hundred ninety nine to zero it'll be interesting to see

where that goes next. I also helped run the Liberation Activist training days

which took place in Manchester and London.

I personally ran two sessions so one on campaigning and how to campaign and the different stages.

I did that with Jess Bradley the Trans Officer and I

also ran the Inclusive Campaigning workshops which looked at safer spaces

and intersectionality and how we make our campaigns inclusive.

On Well Mental Health Day, I was at Canterbury Christ Church, where as well as having several

meetings and seeing how actually a really really good disability support and

Mental Health Services Works. I talked on a panel. Disability history months coming

up it starts on the 22nd of November lots of unions moved it earlier though,

I spoke my first disability history month event in Edinburgh last week.

We've got new resources coming out profiling Disabled Activists of

Colour we've been sending those out this week to around 40 Student Unions and

Disability History Month organisers have kindly shared some resources with us as

well so they'll be a blog coming out. Finally a free education

demo I've organised demo HQ where people can come if they can't March,

for whatever reason and we're doing social media arrestee support so on.

Also help to organise the disabled students block which will be leading the demo and

worked with organisers to ensure the route was are accessible as possible.

So there's a very quick and go round of the main things I've been working on the

last month or so please drop me any questions via email. Thank you

Yinbo Yu | NEC Accountability Video (November 2017) - Duration: 3:02.

Hi everyone I'm Yinbo your International Students Officer from NUS. I want to

share with you our new campaign called students of the world to celebrate

international students day which is on 17th of November. NUS has launched a

getting the best from brexit campaign so making sure that you get the best of your

Student Union and I really want you to advice you to join our social media campaign.

To get the story from your international students because each

every photo you post and the story you tell is going to be a case study that

can be used to demonstrate that we've been long saying that international

study is really really important the latest comments from the Home

Secretary about removing international students from the net migration figures

it's a golden opportunity to finally show that international students are welcome here.

So I wrote a response to that and its on NUS connect we held the first ever international students leaders

conference yesterday and it's really amazing that we can provide this

platform for international students to share their powerful experiences and

also to build power and gain skills and knowledge on our leadership in an

environment where our issues are not sidelined. I also spoke on the IPG of

international students reception to talk about my journey and I was in Lobby the

MP's and across the sector to make sure that we're working together on this, the

coming up Migration Advisory Committee Inquiry, to making sure not only

International Students have the economic benefits back bring to the UK, but

also but most importantly the social benefits a lot of your users receive

this board game, I quote a board game, is the great education exchange that every

single square tells you the journey of like being a International Students it's

really really kind of an interactive way to getting engaged

with your MP's, Vice Chancellors, or even your students on your campus - to making

sure they understand what's it like to be an International Student and why it's

so important to support us. I also lead a delegation to the British Council event

called Future Leaders Connect, we met a very very inspiring people across the

world, like the young leaders from, I think over 70 countries and it's really

cool because it's like a joint event with the charity called The Elders.

Kofi and I was there, Pan also like amazing people there and we

have like a really really good time and talking about our campaign as well the

VPUD Ali Milani and I have launched this internationalisation ticket adding

at zone conference, so if you haven't look at the briefing it's online it's about

how we can make sure that your union is enabled to better engage and support

your International Students on your campuses and more things

lots of things like our campaign has been doing but do check my NUS connect page or

follow me on Twitter and Facebook to check out my other work and I'm happy to

take any questions if you want to join me in an email.

Thank you

Robbie Young | NEC Accountability Video (November 2017) - Duration: 3:27.

In the last few weeks I've been continuing my work to make sure that we have fairer unions

political unions and sustainable unions. So what I've been doing to create fairer

unions is supporting living wage week. I've been campaigning in Durham and

Nottingham and Warwick, fighting with students and student activists to ensure

that their Student Unions and Universities pay all their workers a

living wage. We've been working with the GMB and Student Unions to make sure that

student staff are unionised and we've been working with the International

Rescue Committee and Ben and Jerry's with their Home for Refugees Campaign

ensuring that displaced refugees around Europe can get access to safe housing.

We've also been working with Student Actions for Refugees on the Equal Access

Campaign and I've been working with the Union of Jewish Students on the

implementation of the research into the experiences of Jewish students that we

did last year. For a political union I've been working with citizens UK and we are developing An Activist Academy.

We're going to bring in training for staff members, for student officers and for students, who want to campaign on

anything, on any issue, on their campus and that will start in January so please

watch out for registration that will be opening soon. We've also been working

with Friends of the Earth with 12 colleges on community organising on

different campaigns and they met in Cardiff when we spoke about the progress

that they've been doing and the principles of community organising and

on the 3rd of November we also had the campaign for votes at 16 so thank you to

everyone who took part in that campaign unfortunately the debate wasn't read

entirely and we ran out of time there was a lots of filibustered in by

this government who want to make sure that 16 year olds and 17 year old

continue to be disenfranchised too can't they but we will be back with the

further campaign and thank you very much to everybody who took their part and

please watch out for a campaign that will be launching soon.

For Sustainable Unions we had our Student Eats Conference and Student Sustainability Summit with the

largest-ever delegates with over 135 people coming to the best city in

the UK to Coventry to discuss many things around sustainability and

student eats and how we can make local solutions to global problems and how

students can leave education as a part of the solution to our economic and

sustainability needs for the future. We also launched our Coffee Cup Campaign so

we're going to look at a reusable coffee cups and we're asking Student Unions who

are already working on this - to be a pilot union for us so please be in touch

me if you have and we've also had more Student Unions saying it's the last straw

with our campaign to ensure that single-use plastic straws aren't used as

regular or abandoned from student unions and we also have our Group Impact at 10

Award in parliament we've got many MPs coming along as well as student

activists and organisations to celebrate the fantastic achievement of a green

impact and also to celebrate for the first time we have in FE unions and FE

is playing their part in the campaign - it should be hugely celebrated also at

Festival in Walsall a fantastic conference we launched the

FE guide and we spoke to many students about how they can play their

part in ensuring that we have we use less fossil fuels in future and and we also

launched at the students Sustainability Conference the SDG teaching, where we are getting

university lecturers and college lectures to embed sustainability into

their curriculums.
