My name is Graham Burch. I spent all of my life managing services for people with disabilities.
What I miss since I lost my sight is to have a physical book in my hands.
It's just nice to flick through the pages, and not just constantly hold a tablet, or an iPhone, or anything like that.
You can give it as a present, you can receive it as present.
If it's a book that I inherited from my grandpa, you know, it's a personal connection.
Something to treasure and keep and put away and read again later.
You know, just even the smell of it.
An electronic download doesn't have that effect at all.
We have come up with the idea of BookEars, which is a device which
simply goes between the pages of the book and reads out the text audibly
thus enabling anybody who is blind or partially-sighted, or has a reading disability
to understand the written word.
Press a button and it reads the book to you at whatever speed you want
and in whatever, pretty well whatever language you want as well.
A city guide-type booklet, that's not something you find very often in audio format.
And really anything that's very old and you know people don't really think about
doing an audio version of it or even just a proper, accessible eBook version of it.
We need your help to empower people to read whatever they want, wherever they want, whenever they want.
Please back our campaign and tell your family and friends about this page
and help us bring the gift of reading to everybody.
