This short video is devoted to exploring all of the mobile options available for Lexis
Advance.
There are two main mobile options for Lexis Advance: The Lexis Advance IOS native app
and the Lexis Advance mobile website.
Depending upon your needs, device, and situation, there is a Lexis Advance mobile option that
meets your needs.
The purpose of this video is to help you distinguish between those options and find the best option
for your circumstances.
For specific feature/functionality information about either the mobile website or the ios
native application, please check out our videos on each of these specific options.
The Lexis Advance native app is for IOS devices (a.k.a. IPhone and Ipad) only.
If you are using an android, windows, or other mobile device, please use our Lexis Advance
mobile website, which can be found at www.lexisadvance.com.
Are you ever in a location where you have no wifi or cellular service (like an airplane
or rural area) yet would still like to do some work on documents found on Lexis Advance?
The Lexis Advance native application allows you to download documents that you have already
put into a folder (while you have service), read, highlight, and/or annotate those documents
while you are offline, and then, once you are back online, sync up any changes to those
documents to your Lexis Advance account.
The feature is ONLY available on the native application
All of the vast content that is available on Lexis Advance is available on our mobile
website and ALMOST all of that content is available on our mobile ios application, with
just a few exceptions.
Public records content is NOT available on the mobile application.
In addition, you cannot access content that is outside of your subscription on the native
application.
If you need to do either of these things, please utilize the mobile website.
All other content can be accessed in either the app or the browser.
A reason that many user choose to go with native applications of all kinds, including
Lexis Advance, is to take advantage of the tight integration native IOS apps have with
other IOS functionality.
For example, with the Lexis Advance IOS native app, you can easily: copy and paste content
from a Lexis Advance document into a word processing document such as pages or Microsoft
Word, quickly send Lexis Advance content to a client or colleague through contact integration,
and print to an air print capable printer.
This functionality is not available on the Lexis Advance mobile website.
Another difference between the Lexis Advance IOS app and the Lexis Advance mobile website
is the interface.
While both are similar, the Lexis Advance mobile website is designed to look almost
exactly like the interface on a non-mobile device.
Depending on the size of your screen, menus and tables might display a bit differently.
Overall, the experience is very similar to that of Lexis Advance on a non-mobile device.
In contract, while the Lexis Advance IOS mobile app will feel very similar to its non-mobile
counterpart, the IOS app has been deliberately streamlined to provide an ideal experience
on the smaller screens of most mobile devices.
And, almost all of the same functionality is available.
As a result, the experience is simple.
While, in general, functionality is similar on both the native app and the mobile browser,
there are a few differences to be aware of, specifically:
If you have not already signed in using your Lexis Advance ID, you cannot use the mobile
app.
First time users must sign in for the first time on a non-mobile device or through the
mobile browser.
Moreover, any changes to settings, ID and password must be done through the browser.
If you need to make changes, use a computer or the mobile browser.
These settings will, however, follow you into the app.
You cannot set up alerts in the mobile app
Explore content, Research Map, Search Term map, and shepard's graphical are currently
not available in the mobile app.
Sharing of folders is not available on the mobile app
Offline access.
Storing, reviewing, highlighting and annotating of documents you have already downloaded and
then syncing when you are back online is ONLY available through the mobile app and is an
feature that is NOT available on either the mobile or non-mobile website.
Moreover, you cannot highlight or annotate documents on the mobile browser
PDF downloading is only available on the native IOS app and is not available through the mobile
web.
Additional features.
Through the native app's integration with the ios operating system, users of the native
app can take advantage of split screen viewing (aka multitasking) as well as a document only
view.
Whether you are in the air or on the go, LexisNexis provides an option for every device, situation,
and content need.
