Rome and Germania - Duration: 10:17.

Hello ladies and gentlemen, how are you

all doing today. In this video of mine I

will be kicking off my brand new series

called "Germany's History". So I will go

over the general history of Germany.

However I will not literally go over

every part of Germany, for instance I

won't go over the Germanic tribes

migration into these settlements and all

that. However I will in this video go

over the part of German history that has

something to do with the Roman

occupation. So this video is called Rome

and Germania. Now let's go to another

site let me scroll up. Alright this

website is called MyGermancity.com and

this article is called Germania-The

Roman Side of Germany. So I will get

started with reading this article but

just a little disclaimer, I won't go over

the whole article because I may end up

getting a copyright strike; so I'll leave

this website and this article in the

description section if you want to check

out the whole thing. Alright let's get

started with this article have you ever

wondered why Germany is called Germany

(in English while other countries have

some variations of the word), while we

Germans ourselves call it

Deutschland? I think perhaps we have to

go back to the Romans who called the

area Germania just Germania

but Germania magna (an area to the

east of the Rhine) and Lesser

Germania (to the south) Each had another

area, known as Germania

inferior (Lower Germania. not

because it wasn't a nice place) and Germania

Superior (Upper Germania.)

Now perhaps the reason why the names

Germania Inferior and Germania

Superior were given because it has

something to do with the Roman

perception of the Germanic tribes.

For instance, the romans

perceived the Germanic tribes as

barbaric, unsophisticated... basically not

strong enough or smart enough for

that matter to take on and defeat the

Roman army. Anyways I digress.

It is believed that none other

than the most famous Roman of all time,

Julius Caesar, gave rise to the name back

in 51 BC. I hope you're not thinking so

what's the big deal it is a very big

deal. Now I'm going to scroll down

this article and read some other parts

like starting on this

article, I mean those paragraphs sorry.

Rome's Germania extended through

most of modern-day Germany. Upper Germania

(again, Germania Superior)

included a border of along the River

Rhine along the town of Rhinebrohl, to

the River Main, the Taunus Mountains,

to Lorch; whereas Germania inferior

went all the way to the North Sea

stretching to the present-day

Netherlands. That's a lot of real estate.

The Romans fiercely guarded their little

slice of heaven

(that would be Germany in my eyes) when,

constructing more than 900 watchtowers

and 60 forts along what's called the limes

Germanicus. it has something to do with the Romans

fighting against the roaring factions of

the Germanic tribes in 9 AD. Augustus

decided his Germania needed a defense

wall after they lost in the Battle of

the Teutoburg Forest. Speaking of the

Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, if you

want to check it out, you can simply

click this link. It'll take you straight

to the article that talks about this

particular battle. Now allow me to go

further. How is it that the Roman army,

that was supposedly superior to the

Germanic tribes, loose the battle. And how

did the Germanic tribes overcome the

Roman army in the Battle of

Teutoburg Forest? How did that come into

being? Well let's go back to

Wikipedia and we'll take a look at this

paragraph and along this paragraph

we'll get to the Battle of Teutoberg

Forest and how it is that the Roman army

was defeated. So we'll get into that

right now. In the first years of the

first century AD Roman legions conducted

a long campaign in Germania the area

north of the upper Danube and east of

the Rhine, in an attempt to expand the

Empire's frontier and to shorten its

frontier line. Rome subdued several

Germanic tribes such as the Cherusci. The

tribes became familiar with Roman

tactics of warfare while maintaining

their tribal identity. In 9 AD a

Cherusci chieftain known to the Romans as

Arminius defeated a Roman army in the

Battle of the Teutoburg Forest, a

victory credited with stopping the Roman

advance into Germanic territories and

marking the beginning of recorded German

history. So there you go

that's how the Roman army was defeated

because of this man named

Arminius. Anyways I'm moving on. That part

of the territory of modern Germany that

lay east of the Rhine remained outside

the Roman Empire. By AD 100, the time of

Tacticus's Germania, Gemanic

settled along the Roman frontier along

the Rhine and the Danube (the Lima

Germanicus) occupying most of the area of

modern Germany; however, imperial Rome

organized territory later included in

the modern states of Austria, Baden

Württemberg, southern Bavaria, southern

Hesse, Saarland and the Rhineland as Roman

provinces. The Roman provinces in western

Germany, Germania Inferior (with the

capital situated at Colonia

Claudia ara Agrippinensium, if I

pronounced it correctly,

modern Cologne) and Germania Superior

(with its capital at Mogontiacum

modern Mainz), were formally established

in 85 AD, after a long period of military

occupation beginning in the reign of the

Roman Emperor Augustus from 27 BC to 14

AD. Okay let's look into this map here

of modern-day Germany we'll have a close

look up. Now here's how it is. This is the

River Rhine, the blue lines. So the Romans

as far as they are concerned, occupied

this side of the Rhine; so like southern

Bavaria, most of

baden, southern Hesse, Cologne, Rhineland

and so on. Whereas the Germanic tribes

occupied the rest of Germania on this

side. In the context of the history of

Roman Germania, the Roman army attempted

to gain further ground on the eastern

side of the Rhine River, but due to their

defeat at the Battle of the Teutoburg

forest, they were not successful in

gaining a foothold. So that's how it went.

Well that's all I have for today folks.

If you happen to like this video,

give it thumbs up and please make sure

to comment and subscribe.

Other than that I will be signing off.

But before I do I will make more videos

about German history. There will be more

of those videos to come. So please make

sure to stay tuned for that. But other

than that thank you for watching and

have a nice evening day or morning

wherever you are.

Just be real that's how you get views and subscribers to your video-Keep It Simple - Duration: 4:15.

hi guys I just had to make this video

because this is near and dear to my

heart arm and that's being real don't

let anyone tell you while you're trying

to follow your dreams of being the next

big thing on YouTube that you can't do

it on people so too often get caught up

in this I need to learn how to edit I

need to get this kind of camera I need

to do this I need to do that arm so that

I can create a motion on video you know

something like paramon people who

started like where I'm at and where

you're at who make these kind of videos

sometimes they lose their selves and

then they meet people in their lives

that in this industry that take on their

lives

and they tell them how to put up a video

and what to say just to keep driving

people to their videos so they just give

you a little bit of information just to

keep you coming back I'm always real on

my channel

I'm not into worrying about the editing

thing I just put a video up and it's up

arm anything that I tell my viewers is

was from my heart and what I basically

did my research on oh I know from

experience and I share it

if that's the content that I have it's

going to be a hundred percent you know

it's not going to be this great fabulous

background with this wonderful lighting

arm you know it's not going to be this

introduction that's 30 seconds long just

so that I can get paid at least for the

view of you don't stay on the video with

the glitz and the glamour introduction

is going to be me on a video telling you

the real I am dedicated my channel to

arm helping people get views to the

channels and how to get subscribers I

know from experience how to do it is all

this other fluff I'm not really with it

I get straight to the point I tell you

what you need to do you apply it if you

like and you see results and it doesn't

cost me anything to be able to help

somebody else out um in not even 30 days

I have close to 200,000 views and I have

close to 200 subscribers um my views all

haven't been updated but if you come to

my channel within a few days you will

see the the results of this week views

that have came in arm that have not yet

been updated but keep that in mind that

when you subscribe to a channel which I

hope you subscribe to mine please like

and share this video find someone that's

not popular find somebody that's being

real because you're never going to grow

if you listen to someone that's selling

you fluff I don't want to make this

video too long but keep that in mind

anybody can sell you a dream but a

person that's being real with you will

tell you the truth and get you to where

you need to be because life is too short

and you don't need to be wasting your

valuable time

I'm trying to figure out something

that's as easy as one-two-three and

they're just making the steps harder for

you just to keep you coming back for

more for views so they get paid while

you sit around and get nothing out of it

so I'll see you in the next video
